Highlights of Australia vs Pakistan 1st test 2009 / 10

Posted: 25 Dec 2009 11:32 PM PST

The boxing day test 2009 has started. Australia has batted first and by the end of day 1, they have managed 305/3. Pakistan missed a lot of chances including initial drops, miss-fields and so on. However, Watson and Katich missed their centuries scoring 93 and 98 respectively. Ponting got to a great fifty but was one towards the end of day.

The most notable thing in the 1st day of Boxing day test was the run out of Watson. Unlucky fellow, couldn't reach his maiden hundred in tests again. Katich played beautifully but seemed nervous on 98 giving chances of making him out. You can watch the video Day 1 of Australia vs Pakistan 2009 - Highlights on links below:

Pakistan vs Australia 1st test 2009 - Live

Posted: 25 Dec 2009 09:18 AM PST

Pakistan has not been one of the best test teams in recent times but with the current superb bowling lineup they have you can expect them to be very challenging to Australia. The first test at Melbourne which is the boxing day test match can be decided by the performance of the pace attack of the respective team. It will be a battle between the high quality pace bowling which includes Bollinger, Johnson and Siddle on one side and Asif, Gul and Aamer on other. Australia's superior batting lineup is neutralized by the Pakistani spin attack which seems better.

Australia v Pakistan, 1st Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground,Melbourne
Match time: 00:01 AM GMT / 05:31 AM IST / 6:01 AM Pakistani Time
26th December, 2009

Talking about the team, Pakistan are likely to open with Butt and Farhat. Other batsmen are likely to be Yousuf, Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal, Faisal Iqbal and Misbah. There may be either 2 spinner and pace bowlers each or 3 pacers and 1 spinner. If so, Kaneria may be the first choice for spinner. If they are to drop a pacer Umar Gul may be dropped from group of three.

Australia will open with Watson and Katich. Ponting, North, Clarke, Hussey, Haddin, Johnson are ultimate choice. They will go with pacers Siddle and Bollinger. With Hauritz not being so effective in 4th inning, leg-spinner Steve Smith may get a chance instead of him.

Final verdict for match: The pace bowling seems balanced. Australia seem better batting side while Pakistan's spin department is better. I must say its slightly in favour of Australia.

India vs Sri Lanka 4th ODI 2009 - Live, Kolkata

Posted: 23 Dec 2009 03:23 AM PST

The fourth ODI between Sri Lanka and India can be a decider of series if India wins. Sri Lankan win makes it 2-2 to be decided by final. After high-scoring first and second ODI, the third ODI once seemed similar but with Indian slow bowlers doing brilliant job, it was not cracker with the bat. The pitch at Edens Garden may too favour the Indian slow blowers. Still Sri Lanka can have great advantage due to missing of some key Indian players like Dhoni and Yuvraj.

4th ODI: India v Sri Lanka at Kolkata
Date: December 24 Time: 14:30 local, 09:00 GMT

Both the team miss some key players in the fourth ODI. Dhoni's 2-match keeps him away and Yuvraj will not feature in upcoming two matches. Sreesanth after suffering from flu too has been ruled out. Sri Lanka too will miss Angelo Matthews, Muttiah Muralitharan and Dilhara Fernando due to injury.

Sri Lanka must consider calling back Sanath Jayasuriya back into the team for the 4th ODI. Opening is solid with Dilshan and Tharanga. Sangakkara too in great form and they cannot drop Jayawardene. Then arises the problem of picking more batsmen. Kandamby is in and I think Jayasuriya must be in the team instead of Kapugedara and Samaraweera. Bowlers can be Mendis, Randiv, Welegedara, Malinga and Kulasekera.

Indian spinners Harbajan Singh and Ravindra Jadeja have been great in the series. Zaheer, Ishant and Nehra will lead the pace attack. Batting is expected to be same with one change of Kohli coming in for Yuvraj.

Boxing day test 2009

Posted: 20 Dec 2009 10:12 PM PST

Each year, a test match starts from Boxing day i.e. 26 December hosted in Melbourne, Australia. The test match features Australian cricket team against the team touring the country that summer. In 2009, Pakistan and Australia will be playing the Boxing day test match. It will be the first test of the 3-match series.

History of Boxing day test match: The Boxing day test was first played in 1950 in Melbourne. From 1953 to 1967, no such test were played. But the tradition was started again with tests being played on this day either in Australia or other country. However from 1980, the Melbourne Cricket Club and the Australian cricket team secured the rights to play the match annually and has been going on since then except in 1989 where a boxing day ODI was played.

Last year, South Africa played against Australia which it won. Pakistan had already played a boxing day test match in 2004 where it lost by 9 wickets and in 1983 where it was a draw. Australia has won 9 out of last 10 boxing day test matches, the loss being in 2008.

Dhoni banned for 2 ODIs

Posted: 18 Dec 2009 07:57 PM PST

Indian captain, MS Dhoni has been banned for maintaining a slow over rate against Sri Lanka in 2nd ODI at Nagpur. The match had ended 45 mins later than the scheduled due to frequent discussion between the players of Indian team in the final stage of match. Match refree Jeff Crowe took the decision.

Dhoni will now miss the 3rd and 4th ODI against Sri Lanka. Virender Sehwag will be captaining the Indian team in the absence of him. Dinesh Karthik may replace him as a wicket keeper batsman in the team. Apart from Dhoni, all other players of Indian team were fined 40% match fees for the slow over rate.

Bad time for Dhoni who couldn't make his team win the 2nd ODI despite a superb century by him. The series is now 1-1 draw with 3 matches to play. Dhoni will play only in the 5th ODI.
