Tremlett secures place in side for Perth test | Ashes 2010 - 11

Posted: 15 Dec 2010 04:40 AM PST

Chris Tremlett will make his long-awaited test comeback in the third Ashes test at the Waca in Perth.

With Stuart Broad out of the tour with a stomach muscle strain there has been much debate amongst those following the live match score centre this winter as to who out of Tremlett, Tim Bresnan and Ajmal Shahzad will replace him.

All three had the chance to impress in a warm-up game against Victoria at the MCG but on a sticky wicket they only managed one wicket between them.

In the end it seems Tremlett's tall 6ft 8in frame has persuaded the selectors to give him the chance. With the Waca pitch traditionally the hardest and bounciest in Australia, England will need players who can take advantage of the conditions. Tremlett fits the bill perfectly.

The Surrey paceman made his England debut in a One Day International against Bangladesh at Trent Bridge in 2005, taking 4-32. But injury and the form of those above him prevented him from making a test appearance that summer. A knee injury would then force him to miss that winter's tour of India and Pakistan. He did eventually make his test debut against India in 2007, playing three Tests and picking up 13 wickets at an average of 29.69.

But sadly for Tremlett injuries have continually prevented him from adding to his trio of caps. The selectors have always kept him in mind though as he has all the physical attributes required to be a fearsome test bowler.

After just seven Championship matches for Hampshire in an injury ravaged 2009 season Tremlett made the move to Surrey, a decision that seemed to galvanise the 29-year-old. He took 48 wickets in the 2010 season to earn his place back on cricket's biggest stage.

And with England currently 1-0 up with three matches to play, those assessing the cricket live scores know that games don't get much bigger than this!
