In absence of Stuart Broad, Chris Tremlett was called for his place. Tremlett provided early breakthrough and restricted Aussies for 268 runs. Tremlett removed Hughes in the 2nd over of the match. Anderson then took the wicket of Australian captain. Australia were once 5 for 69. Hussey provided some resistance with his 61. Haddin and Johnson were other rescuers who got 53 and 62. Tremlett and Anderson took 3 wickets whereas Finn and swann bagged 2 each. In reply, England on short 12-overs at the end of Day 1 could servive from Aussie attack, now England 29/0 at stumps.
