Title: 2010 Could Be The Year Of The Aussie

Author: Stellar Stevens

Article:
The Premier League of Darts now has five years history behind it
and this, its sixth year, promises to be even bigger and better
than all that have gone before . There is a total of 400,000 in
prize money on offer over the course of 15 weeks and 58 matches
being played across the length and breadth of the country
between the worlds elite players.

The Premier League is unique in that only eight players get the
opportunity to play in the tournament each year. The six top
ranked players in the PDC order of merit are joined by two wild
card entries that are selected by the PDC, all players then play
each other twice gaining points for their results which are then
inserted into a league table. The top four players then play-off
against each other in a semi-final and final played at Wembley
Arena in front of a crowd in excess of 12,000.

The other unique attribute of the Premier League of Darts is
that in the league stages the draw is a possibility. Matches are
played over a best of 14 legs format and hence the prospect of a
7-7 draw which then sees the players gain one point each. This
can cause somewhat of a headache for sports betting fans as the
draw must always be considered when having a flutter, unlike in
any other darts tournament.

The 2010 Premier League of Darts has now had its line-up
confirmed and dates finalised. The top six players who qualify
automatically Phil Taylor, Raymond van Barneveld, James Wade,
Terry Jenkins, Mervyn King and Ronnie Baxter will be joined by
the 2010 World Championship runner-up Simon Whitlock and the man
who was once touted to take Taylors crown Adrian Lewis. Taylor
is the unsurprising favourite when it comes to sports betting
and he can be backed at a paltry 2/5 to win the tournament,
however, he may be vulnerable as this is in fact one of very few
titles which Taylor doesnt already hold. James Wade was the
eventual winner last year and he is the second favourite to win
the tournament at 9/1.

Yet it is the Australian, Whitlock who could be the man that
Taylor must look out for if he is to regain the title that he
won four years in a row. Whitlocks wild card invitation was a
formality following his mightily impressive performances at the
recent World Championships and his big checkouts make him the
man that sports betting fans should be siding with as an
each-way bet at 16/1. Whoever does take the crown you can be
sure that they will have to throw some top darts in order to
win, and for the next few months Thursday evenings are sure to
be packed with drama and excitement.
