Ponting: Was a very good performance. The wicket surprised a bit with the new ball. 280+ was an excellent batting effort and the bowling was first class. We had to reverse things very quickly after the 2 losses. It would have become very hard if the momentum had gone away from us so hopefully we can maintain the momentum. Not sure what the best preparation is, because we are playing back to back in this tournament. It was important to get early wickets, it always does something under the lights here and Lee bowled very well. We should be able to play good cricket in all conditions across Australia. Tonight was a great way to bounce back, hopefully we can carry on in Hobart.

Hilfenhaus: Good feeling to be back. We put runs on the board and it was a good show by everyone. We’ve been working on a few things and I’m just looking to control things which I can. 2 new balls helps us, I definitely like it. I couldn’t get Sachin through the Test series so it’s nice to get him out here.

Ben Hilfenhaus is the Man of the Match

Dhoni: It was difficult, especially after the opposition scored 280+. We needed a good start but they got early breakthroughs and that was the most important thing. Batting failures happen at times, people think too much about the asking rates but they should not. With 2 new balls, it becomes tougher at the top order. They have to plan it out, the middle overs are easier to bat on. Few of my main bowlers who usually bowl in the death overs were getting cramps which was affecting their bowling. We should look to bowl good lines, it will be a good wicket and both teams (India and SL) will enjoy the wicket.

Richard Levi smashes fastest ton as SA thrash NZ in 2nd T20

Posted: 19 Feb 2012 01:40 AM PST

Opening batsman Richard Levi took advantage of the small boundaries at Seddon Park to blast a world record 13 sixes and guide South Africa to an eight wicket win over New Zealand to level their Twenty20 series in Hamilton on Sunday.

Levi, who only made his debut on Friday in Wellington, also brought up the fastest international Twenty20 century off 45 balls as he scored 117 not out to help the visitors chase down New Zealand’s 173 for four with four overs to spare.

The powerfully-built Levi was brutal to a wayward New Zealand attack who bowled into his arc allowing him to smash the ball across the ropes from mid-off around to deep backward square-leg.

Captain AB de Villiers (39 not out) simply ticked the strike over to the 24-year-old who wasted little time in bringing up his century when he pushed the ball into the covers for a rare single.

West Indies opener Chris Gayle had held the previous record for sixes in a Twenty20 international with 10, while Gayle and Brendon McCullum had shared the record for fastest century. Both had achieved the mark in 50 balls.

Martin Guptill top-scored for New Zealand with 47 from 35 balls though the South Africans would be pleased to have stopped him passing 50.

The 25-year-old Guptill had plundered the much weaker Zimbabwean attack in the first series of New Zealand’s summer, scoring 51 in the only test, 232 runs at 77.33 in the three one-day internationals before he smashed 91 not out in his only Twenty20 appearance.

He made 78 not out in the first Twenty20 against South Africa in Wellington on Friday.

South African offspinner Johan Botha was the pick of the visitors’ attack on Sunday as he mixed the speed, width and loop on his deliveries to finish with one for 22 from four overs.

South Africa Vs New Zealand 2nd T20 Post Match Hamilton 2012

Levi: It was a fun night. I just tried to remain calm and collected and also keep going. They tried to angle it in and keep it straight but if it was in my half I went for it. It has ended unbeleivably quickly and it is yet to sink in actually.

Richard Levi is the Man of the Match for his splendid innings

AB de Villiers: The batters were never allowed to settle. I mixed things up today. We did well to restrict them to 173. Johan Botha has a lot of plans and he is an all-round bowler. Very proud of Richard. he has done it before so I will not say it is a once in a liftetime innings. We go into auckland with a lot of momentum now and we will try to improve wherever we can.

Brendon McCullum: When someone comes out and plays like that, one cannot do much about it. I would have liked 190-200 but then again, Levi batted superbly. the boys tried hard but nothing worked. I will not be too hard on the boys. It is just a night off because of a sensational innings. From our point of view, we just have to pick ourselves. It is one all at the moment and I’m sure our boys will be up for the third game.
