Pakistan Vs England 4th ODI Post Match Presentation 21 Feb 2012

Cook: It’s been a really good week and a half for us. We had a challenge to do well in the ODI series and all the boys did well. We tried to rotate some players after we won the series and I think Dernbach did really well today. We have couple of niggles in our batting line up so I am staying for the T20s as well.

Misbah: We have to look forward and forget this ODI series. Today we batted well, but lots of positives to take from this series. Lots of our batsmen couldn’t convert good starts to a big score and that affected us. But full marks to the way Cook and KP played. We tried and picked 4 spinners in this game, but England had a strong batting line-up.

KP: I am extremely happy with my knock as it was very special for him and it helped us win the series. We trained very hard after the Test series and that helped them. Opening the batting for a new experience for me. I altered my technique a bit as DRS had affected my batting. I am looking forward to going home now.

KP is the Man of the Match for his match winning innings of 130 off 153 balls.

India vs Sri Lanka 8th ODI Post Match Presentation Tri-Series Brisbane 2012

Mahela: We are getting better and better. The commitment is brilliant and we played very well. We are still making some mistakes though. We try to execute different game plans in each game. I think we did it perfectly today. 280+ was a great score and the bowlers were absolutely brilliant up front. With 2 new balls, the pitch will do a bit more in these conditions so it is important to not give easy singles. Our bowlers are bowling good areas, hopefully we can keep our heads together in the next few matches and get into the finals, which is our first goal.

Nuwan Kulasekara: My strength is to swing the ball, and I try to do that in every opporutnity. Sachin is a master of cricket and I’m very happy to get his wicket. Our attack is very good, we have Lasith and the other seamers also did well. I rate Lasith as the number 1 bowler in the world now.

Nuwan Kulasekara is the Man of the Match.

Sehwag: Last 10 overs we didn’t bowl well. Tendulkar and Gauti gave us a good start but we lost 3 wickets in 11 overs. Raina and Virat put on a good stand but they couldn’t take it on. In this summer I got out almost 5 times at short point and third man. I have to work hard in the nets and leave a couple of balls before attacking. Hopefully in the coming games, we’ll have to pull up our socks and do well. We missed Dhoni in this game, if we play to our potential we can do well.

Misbah: We are batting first. We have lots of injuries in our side. Farhat is out and Malik is coming back into the side. We are resting Gul and lot of players are sick. We are not capitalization on the good starts and we are working on it. Junaid Khan and Rehman replace Gul and Cheema.

Cook: We also would have batted first. We have couple of injuries. Ravi has a sore back. Briggs and Butler are playing their first match. This is our last game of the tour and I would like to finish it on a winning note.

Ricky Ponting retires from One Day International Cricket

Australia’s former captain Ricky Ponting does not expect to play international one-day cricket again after he was dropped from the team on Monday but would continue to be available for Test matches, he said on Tuesday.

The 37-year-old is the second most prolific batsman of all time in limited overs internationals, scoring 13,704 runs in 375 matches since his debut in 1995.

The Tasmanian was dropped from the Australia team because of poor form on Monday with selectors strongly indicating that his career in one-day internationals was all but over.

Ponting, who had made just 18 runs in five games in the ongoing Tri-series against India and Sri Lanka, said he had spoken to chairman of selectors John Inverarity who told him he was not in the plans for the future direction of the team looking to the 2015 World Cup.

“I have been dropped, which is disappointing but I accept that. My performances over the last five games haven’t warranted me being there,” Ponting told a media conference.

“John has been pretty clear on the reasons why and the direction they are heading with the one-day team and I am not part of their plans.

“It’s a bit hard to say I’ve retired given I’ve been dropped but I don’t expect to play one-day international cricket any more and I’m sure the selectors don’t expect to pick me either.”

Ponting said he wanted to continue playing test matches. “I’ve only got Test cricket left now and I want to make every post a winner,” he added.

“I think I’ve proved this summer that I can still play great cricket for Australia and deserve to be out there.”
