Mark Boucher retires from international cricket Posted: 10 Jul 2012 08:02 AM PDT South Africa veteran cricketer Mark Boucher on Tuesday announced retirement from all forms of international cricket with immediate effect. The 35-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman had suffered a career-threatening injury on his left eye, which had ruled him out of the England tour. The International Cricket Counil (ICC) announced on Twitter, “Mark Boucher has retired from international cricket with immediate effect due to eye injury.” “Due to the severity of my eye injury, I will not be able to play International cricket again,” Boucher was quoted as saying by Cricket South Africa’s Twitter page. CSA CEO Jacqes Faul said, “Boucher has been a great servant of the game,unique talents like his come 1ce a generation.He will never be forgotten.” “Mark Boucher will be returning home from the tour. Selectors will name a replacement in due course,” Cricket South Africa had earlier announced. The 35-year-old, who had hinted this could be his final campaign before retirement, was hit in the face when a bail ricocheted off the stumps after Gemaal Hussain was bowled by Imran Tahir during the first day of the Proteas’ tour opener against English county Somerset at Taunton. Boucher, as would be expected for leg-spinner Tahir, was standing up to the stumps, but he was wearing a cap rather than a helmet. After treatment on the field, Boucher was helped off with blood coming from his left eye and taken to hospital. His place behind the stumps was filled by AB de Villiers, who has kept wicket in international matches for South Africa.

ICC delegation to present DRS research to BCCI Posted: 10 Jul 2012 02:04 AM PDT The ICC will send a delegation to India to show the research on ball-tracking by Dr Ed Rosten, an expert in computer vision technology, after the BCCI’s objection resulted in the DRS being not put to a vote at the Executive Board meeting in Kuala Lumpur last month. The research by Rosten was left off the agenda of the ICC executive board meeting, and Cricket Australia chairman Wally Edwards said that some other members of the board had also expressed some reservations against mandatory use of the Decision Review System. Edwards, though, believed that the tabling of Rosten’s research could have resulted in a different outcome. “ICC had got some independent research done on the accuracy and all those issues. Now unfortunately they didn’t present that information to the board,” Edwards said. “India have agreed and the boards have agreed for ICC management to go to India and take all the information, take their presentations, take their technical support and talk to them over there,” he said. Edwards further said that it’s not just India but others too are sceptical. “India are willing to look at it, but they’re sceptical, and others are too – it’s not just India. I think it is part of the game for the future, but it’s a good time to review. “Unfortunately if that presentation, or whatever it is they had, had been presented to the board it might have changed things.” The research will be shown alongside details of the enhancements made to Hot Spot, the infrared cameras used to detect edges that had their accuracy questioned after the 2011 Test series between England and India. Edwards hoped that India would change its stance on DRS. “It looks accurate, but from their point of view they are reluctant just to accept it as gospel. I think it is possible they’ll change, but we’ll have to wait and see how they go with this new information in India.”
