Mahela Jayawardene: The mindset was obviously to win tghe series 2-0. We were in a good position to win, the guys put their hand up and performed well. When we lost the crucial wicket of Chandimal, we decided to shut down the chase. All our youngsters have chipped in right throughout the ODI and Test series. Dilly was unavailable here but he did well with 2 hundreds. Pakistan are an amazing team and deserve better than the No. 5 rankings. We have some real quality in our side, the credit should go to them as well as the support staff. I am pleased to win the series as a captain, it was a real challenge and the guys responded well. As long as we handle ourselves well, captaincy is pretty easy.

Misbah: I am really happy with the way our team cameback after the 1st Test. The youngsters are really playing well. Azhar and Shafiq got runs here, Adnan played really well and Junaid has been a find. It was tough not to have the regular keeper, but that it is the way it goes. The pitch was lively on the 1st two days and it became very flat later on. We have to work hard, we were a bit behind in the 1st Test and that cost us the series.

Sangakkara: I thought it was a fantastic effort from the guys. Paranavitana and Samaraweera batted very well in the 1st innings. Our bowling was very good and Thisara played really well. I thought this wicket suited Pakistan very well and we needed to play at our test. We have had a tough last year and a half, this series win is good for the team. We need to work hard on our basics with our coaches and need to score runs. Test cricket is a great leveller, we have a fine bunch of seniors and young players. Everyone is pulling their weight.

Kumar Sangakkara is the Man of the Series

Shafiq: It was difficult in the first innings. The pitch was challenging, we had lost some early wickets and I needed to play according to the basics. I was nervous when I was nearing 100 in the second knock but all thanks to Adnan Akmal, It was a good test series for us, we have learnt a lot.

Asad Shafiq is the Man of the Match for his knocks of 75 and 100*

Pakistan announces preliminary squad for T20 World Cup, Kamran Akmal included

Posted: 12 Jul 2012 02:14 AM PDT

Pakistan on Wednesday named Kamran Akmal in their provisional 30-man squad for this year’s World Twenty20, after the wicketkeeper-batsman was cleared of suspicions of spot-fixing.

A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) integrity committee last week questioned Kamran before approving him for the squad for the tournament in Sri Lanka in September and October.

“Kamran has been selected after he was cleared by the committee and we feel that he can still deliver as keeper and an opener in the Twenty20 cricket,” chief selector Iqbal Qasim told AFP.

The 30-year-old has not been selected for Pakistan since the 2011 World Cup.

His name was mentioned at the trial in England last year of three Pakistani Test players over spot-fixing allegations but he was neither summoned by the London court nor banned by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Former Test captain Salman Butt and pacemen Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer were banned and jailed for contriving deliberate no-balls during the Lord’s Test against England in 2010.

Kamran was also accused of deliberately under-performing during Pakistan’s surprise defeat against Australia in the 2010 Sydney Test, where he failed to run out Shane Watson and dropped three chances from Michael Hussey.

The ICC directed the PCB to form an integrity committee to check players’ conduct and their assets in the wake of the 2010 spot-fixing scandal.

Pakistan appointed Mohammad Hafeez as their Twenty20 captain in May to replace the ageing Misbah-ul Haq.

Misbah, who lost his Twenty20 place, is still missing from the preliminary squad despite vowing to get back in the shortest form.

Also recalled in the preliminary squad are all-rounder Abdul Razzaq and opener Imran Nazir. A final squad of 15 will be announced by mid-August.

Preliminary squad:

Mohammad Hafeez, Ahmed Shahzad, Khalid Latif, Nasir Jamshed, Imran Nazir, Shahzaib Hasan, Awais Zia, Sharjeel Khan, Umar Akmal, Asad Shafiq, Haris Sohail, Shoaib Malik, Rameez Raja, Shahid Afridi, Hammad Azam, Abdul Razzaq, Umar Gul, Mohammad Sami, Sohail Tanvir, Yasir Arafat, Wahab Riaz, Junaid Khan, Aizaz Cheema, Anwar Ali, Saeed Ajmal, Abdul Rehman, Raza Hasan, Sarfraz Ahmed, Kamran Akmal, Shakeel Ansar. Rob Nicol: Individually I was very pleased with my effort. We probably had the best of this pitch. It wore down as the game went on. We got partnerships today and that is what got us across the line.

Rob Nicol is the Man of the Match for his 59.

Kane Williamson: It’s nice to win the crucial match and keep the series alive. Good performance from the boys especially with the ball. It was probably a below par total on that track but we wanted to come out and field well. We look at this performance and learn the positive things from it. We need to put in a strong batting performance next time. Brendon has a few more days to recover from the flight. We have to wait and see.

Darren Sammy: It’s disappointing. The Kiwis came out hard and they were brilliant. When I look back I think we should have proabbaly batted first. We also thought that we could chase 250 down. We had three run outs in the chase. The team always comes first and we did well to restrict them to 249. It is not a panic situation. We were playing well and this was just an off day for us.

Oram: The series is alive. We needed to win. Not only for the series but also for ourselves. This was actually a pretty good ODI wicket. It did get a bit slower and lower late in the game. We had a meeting last night. Brendon came in and gave his thoughts on our game and as well as some of the West Indies boys. The win was not solely down to him but he had a part in it.
