Kolkata Knight Riders vs Titans Post Match Presentation Champions League 2012

Posted: 21 Oct 2012 12:47 PM PDT

Das: ‘We got a good start and we were very confident after that. I just tried to play my game and it paid off.’

Das is the Man of the Match

Gambhir: ‘When that game got washed out against Perth, our hopes ended. But we’re a quality side and we showed that today. Bisla started the attack and gave us the momentum. 180+ on this track was a very good effort. Very disappointed with the way things have gone in this tournament though. Hopefully we can do well in the next IPL and qualify for the CL next year too.’

Jaarsveld: ‘They were like a runaway train towards the end of their innings. We have a big game against Delhi on Tuesday. It’s a bit of a hammer-blow but we have to pick ourselves up’

Agarkar: ‘It is good that Irfan, Morne and Umesh have been bowling so well. They put the pressure on the batsman, I need to just stick to the basics. I thought we nearly made a meal of the chase, there was pressure but I am happy with the way it ended.’

Ajit Agarkar is The MoM

Mahela: ‘Very happy with the way we played. We made a few mistakes but happy to cross the line, I thought the bowling was great. We bat deep in the line-up, it was great that the guys fought hard. We need to make sure that we prepare well. It is good to have games like this.’

North: ‘I thought 140 was a par score. I thought we played very well in the first 10 overs, we then lost our way after the dismissal of Shaun. Credit to Delhi for pulling us back.’

Toss: Delhi Daredevils have won the toss and elected to field

Mahela: ‘We will bowl first. The wicket has been under cover and it should be a little bit sticky, not sure how it will play. We had a good rest and are raring to go. We will hope to go and play to our potential. We are playing the same side that played against Kolkata.’

North: ‘We need to win the remaining two games, the boys are up to the challenge. We will need to win the next two games to go through. Happy to bat first, the wicket looks good. We too have an unchanged side.’

Pitch Report: There is not a lot of grass on this wicket. It looks a bit barren and tacky. The team that wins the toss should bowl first. 135-140 is a good score on this deck.

Already shown the exit door, IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) would look for a face-saving win when they take on table-toppers Titans in their final Group A match of the Champions League Twenty20 here tomorrow Cape Town.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) side has looked out of sorts in the tournament so far and with rain robbing them of a chance to stay in the hunt during their previous outing against Perth Scorchers, Gautam Gambhir’s boys would be desperate to end the cash-rich championship on a positive note.

Titans, on the other hand, are on a roll, having won two consecutive matches, and would like to seal a place in the semi-finals when they meet a deflated KKR side.

However, the African side needs to guard against complacency as a slide from here on may well restrict their entry into the top four.

With both their openers firing in unison, Titans have got off to fliers in their previous two outings and it remains to be seen how Jacques Rudolph and Henry Davids come up against the likes of Brett Lee and Jacques Kallis.

The only matter of worry for Martin van Jaarsveld-led side would be lack of time spent by its middle order at the crease.

Most of the team’s batsmen have remained unscathed and Gambhir’s men might well be in with a chance if they manage to get a couple of early wickets.

The real test for the home side will come through mystery spinner Sunil Narine, who has clinched five wickets in the tournament so far, and Gambhir may well be tempted to use him upfront along side Lee.

The worry for KKR in the bowling department remains the lacklustre performance of Lakshmipathy Balaji. The Tamil Nadu bowler has been too costly giving away 116 runs from his 11 overs in the tournament so far.

Although he was economical in the washed-out game against Scorchers, Gambhir may well opt for all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan in his place, given the batting woes of his team and South Africans’ dislike for spin.

The major area of worry for the KKR, however, remains their dismal show with the bat.

Their top-order, including Gambhir and the experienced batter Kallis, have not been able to adjust to the conditions and it would be a test of their character when they face the likes of Alfonso Thomas and Mbhalati, who have consistently bowled well in the tournament.

Titans’ bowlers have managed to keep their opponents under a tight leash in the previous encounters and they will certainly ask some difficult questions from the strong but faltering KKR batting line-up. (PTI)

Teams:

Kolkata Knight Riders (Probable): Manvinder Bisla (wk), Gautam Gambhir (c), Brendon McCullum, Jacques Kallis, Yusuf Pathan, Manoj Tiwary, Debabrata Das, Brett Lee, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Sunil Narine, Pradeep Sangwan.

Titans (Probable): Jacques Rudolph, Henry Davids, Martin van Jaarsveld (c), Farhaan Behardien, David Wiese, Roelof van der Merwe, Heino Kuhn (wk), Cornelius de Villiers, Alfonso Thomas, Eden Links, Ethy Mbhalati

Preview: Delhi Daredevils vs Perth Scorchers, Champions League 2012

Posted: 20 Oct 2012 03:00 PM PDT

A star-studded Delhi Daredevils will be up against the experience of Perth Scorchers in its bid to close in on a semifinal berth when the two sides clash in a group A match of the Champions League Twenty20.

After winning their tournament-opener, second-placed Delhi’s cricketers were left to warm the benches as rain washed out their second game against Auckland Aces in Johannesburg last night.

Perth Scorchers, on the other hand, are lying bottom of the heap with a loss and a couple of points from Thursday’s wash-out.

They desperately need to win tomorrow to have any chance of staying afloat in the tournament.

Delhi dominated their IPL counterparts Kolkata Knight Riders in their first match in the competition. Though their batsmen didn’t put up the best show, the team posted a competitive total, which their pace quartet successfully defended.

In David Warner, skipper Mahela Jayawardene, Virender Sehwag, Kevin Pietersen and Ross Taylor, the Delhi Daredevils have four proven match-winners.

Add to the mix, teen sensation Unmukt Chand and Delhi seem to have five impact players.

Their bowling attack too is lethal and capable of giving the best batting line-ups sleepless nights. Morne Morkel’s ability to generate bounce and knowledge of local conditions, makes him quite a handful.

Irfan Pathan has regained some of his lost touch and the young Umesh Yadav has also been relishing the conditions in South Africa.

The Perth Scorchers, meanwhile, will look to their top order to do bulk of the run-scoring.

In Herschelle Gibbs, Marcus North and Shaun Marsh, Perth have a lot of firepower and experience at the top.

While Gibbs was the second-highest run-getter for them in their Big Bash League campaign, behind Mitchell Marsh’s tally of 309 runs, skipper North was not too far behind with an aggregate of 273 runs in eight innings.

The bowling department lacks a big name except for the veteran spinner Brad Hogg and for this reason alone, their batsmen will have to set the match for them. (PTI)

Teams:

Delhi Daredevils (Probable): Mahela Jayawardene (c), Virender Sehwag, Unmukt Chand, Kevin Pietersen, Naman Ojha (wk), Ross Taylor, Pawan Negi, Morne Morkel, Irfan Pathan, Ajit Agarkar, Umesh Yadav.

Perth Scorchers (Probable): Herschelle Gibbs, Marcus North (c), Luke Ronchi (wk), Mitchell Marsh, Shaun Marsh, Simon Katich, Nathan Rimmington, Joe Mennie, Brad Hogg, Michael Beer, Nathan Coulter-Nile.
