West Indies vs Zimbabwe 1st Test Post Match Presentation 2013 #ZimvsWI

Posted: 14 Mar 2013 10:45 AM PDT

Shillingford: I played some first class matches and that helped me. It always feels great to come back and play for West Indies. I tried to bowl a consistent line and kept the pressure. Hopefully I will go to Dominica and would like to repeat the same performance

Shane Shillingford is the Man of the Match for his figures of 9/107.

Darren Sammy: We did exactly what we wanted to do. Winning 5 Tests in a row is great. Shillingford bowled really well in this Test. I went out to bat and enjoyed myself there. I am an attacking batsman and I got some loose balls as well. Yesterday it was not about survival and I tried to attack them from the first ball. This was Shillingford’s first match after his comeback and he bowled well. Powell also did well to take 6 catches.

Brendan Taylor: It was a tough Test, we didn’t play well on the first day, but we came back strongly with the ball. If we had scored 300 in the first innings things could have been different. Not a lot of positives to take from this Test apart from Jarvis and Mawoyo. We have 4-5 days off and we will work on our mistakes. All our bowlers did well, but they didn’t have enough score on the board. I am looking forward to the second Test and hopefully we will put up a much better show

Ricky Ponting backs axed Shane Watson #IndvsAus

Posted: 14 Mar 2013 10:10 AM PDT

Ricky Ponting backs axed Shane WatsonSuspended Australia vice-captain Shane Watson received the backing of former skipper Rickie Ponting on Thursday as crisis surrounding the team rumbled on.

Watson, along with three other players, was suspended for the third test in India after failing to respond to a request from Australia’s management for feedback on how the team could be improved.

Cricket Australia high performance manager Pat Howard described Watson as “sometimes” a team player but Ponting, one of Australia’s most successful captains, begged to differ.

“Shane worked as hard as anybody around his cricket, there’s no doubt about that,” Ponting was quoted in Australian media.

“He’s obviously made a blue here – I don’t like to refer to it as homework because it wasn’t homework – not getting his tasks done that were given to him by the coach.

“… I’ve never known him to be anything other than a very good team player and a great bloke to have around your team.

“I loved every moment that I played with Watto.”

Mitchell Johnson, James Pattinson and Usman Khawaja were also dropped for the same reason.

Watson, who was initially thought to be considering his test career, has returned to Australia to be with his pregnant wife.

Dscribing his suspension as “extremely harsh” Watson hit back at Howards’s comment this week.

“All I can really say is go around and ask every person I’ve ever played cricket with and that will give you the best indication of whether I’m a team man or not,” he said.

“Pat Howard doesn’t particularly know me very well. He’s come from a rugby background and hasn’t been in and around cricket very long.”

Pakistan vs South Africa 2nd ODI Live Streams 2013

South Africa entered into ODIs with inconsistencies in the limited over cricket came bang on in the first game. South Africa are leading the series 1-0 now and will be looking for a 2-0 in the second match at the Centurion. South Africa went out withut their lead pace attack of Dale Steyn and Mornel Morkel and still managed to get Pakistan out for 190. Collin Ingram played a superb innings for the home side. Pakistan have too much to work on before the 2nd ODI. Pakistan fragile batting is the main concern for the team. Only two batsman scored runs in 30′s out of the playing XI and bowling too was very weak. Umar Gul and Jinaid Khan conceded runs at a rate of 6.50 plus. Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Irfan were dropped from first ODI, they should definitely replace either Umar Gul or Junaid Khan for the next ODI. Shahid Afridi coming back to squad failed as a bowler but did scored runs with bat which can be a little positive for the visitos.Pakistan definitely need a win in the second ODI to keep the series balanced.

Pakistan vs South Africa 2nd ODI – Centurion – Preview #PakvSA

Posted: 14 Mar 2013 05:14 AM PDT

South Africa entered the series with a focus on finding the right combinations to lift them from a worrisome period in limited-overs cricket and produced a comprehensive performance in Bloemfontein to crush Pakistan by 125 runs. They will not look to emulate that performance and further test the durability of less experienced players with the aim of going 2-0 up over the opposition in the second ODI at Centurion on Friday.

Pakistan vs South Africa 2nd ODI - Centurion - Preview

On Sunday, Pakistan’s bowlers conceded too many runs and the batsmen failed to cope with a pace bowling attack missing Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel, with 198 ODI wickets between them. The biggest success of that win were batsman Colin Ingram, with his third ODI century; allrounder Farhaan Behardien with a 14-ball 34; and the seven wickets shared by Rory Kleinveldt and Ryan McLaren. Kleinveldt took 4 for 22 and McLaren 3 for 19 to bowl Pakistan out for 190 in 36.2 overs.

Extracting further success from these four players is key to South Africa gauging where they are ahead of this summer’s ICC Champions Trophy. The hosts are a far from settled unit and thus the strong showing of Ingram and Behardien was significant, because South Africa’s middle order has often been found too soft. With captain AB de Villiers taking over the role of permanent wicketkeeper and batting at No. 3, the need for runs from the middle order is massive. Dismissing the South African openers and de Villiers is where Pakistan can look to test the home team.

For that, though, they will need to be sharper than they were at Centurion. Junaid Khan and Umar Gul both went in excess of 6.50 and managed one wicket between them, while Shahid Afridi’s return to ODI cricket saw him concede 60 runs in eight overs. The offspin of Mohammad Hafeez and Saeed Ajmal produced 101 runs in 20 overs for a tally of three wickets, and it looks as if the pair will again have a role to play. Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Irfan, both left-arm quicks, could be considered at the expense of either Junaid or Gul.

With only two batsmen getting into the thirties in the first ODI, Pakistan’s fragile batting will again be put to test. The key, not surprisingly, will be how Pakistan’s batting copes with South Africa’s fast bowlers who have been vital in ensuring the home team’s superiority over Pakistan in the Tests and at Centurion. Asad Shafiq made just 5 in the series opener and could be replaced in the middle order by Umar Akmal.

Probable XIs:
South Africa: 1 Graeme Smith 2 Hashim Amla 3 AB de Villiers (capt/wk), 4 Colin Ingram, 5 Faf du Plessis, 6 Farhaan Behardien, 7 Ryan McLaren 8 Robin Peterson 9 Rory Kleinveldt, 10 Kyle Abbott, 11 Lonwabo Tsotsobe

Pakistan: 1 Nasir Jamshed, 2 Mohammed Hafeez, 3 Younis Khan, 4 Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), 5 Umar Akmal, 6 Shoaib Malik, 7 Kamran Akmal (wk), 8 Shahid Afridi, 9 Umar Gul, 10 Saeed Ajma, 11 Junaid Khan/Mohammed Irfan/Wahab Riaz

Rain washed out Day 1 of India vs Australia Mohali Test #IndvsAus

Posted: 14 Mar 2013 01:50 AM PDT

Rain washed out Day 1 of India vs Australia Mohali TestThe miracle happened, at least part of it, and it was sent down to earth in the form of late winter rain. Inclement weather washed out the entire first day's play in the third Test, internally-tattered Australia thus surviving their first outing on the field after 'Homework-gate', and left with four more days to fend off to avoid going 0-3 down in the four-match series.

Play was called off at 1 p.m. without the toss having taken place. Proceedings will begin thirty minutes earlier – at 9 a.m – on the four remaining days to make up for the lost sessions.

A soggy morning led to a couple of hours of cessation of rain, during which time the groundstaff worked earnestly to ready the field, but just about lunch-break a nagging drizzle resumed , pushing back further an inspection that was originally scheduled for noon.

With an eye on the weather, the teams had arrived late to the venue and the Aussies – a ravenous Peter Siddle, specifically – were seen wading into something resembling a meat-laden Indian delicacy while they waited for things to clear up.

There was no respite, however, from bad weather and all through it the square lay hidden under a water-laden tarpaulin. The cancellation of play also meant that Shikhar Dhawan will have to wait some more to take the field on Test debut.

Since the toss didn't happen, some mystery also remained over India's eleven, and it was not known whether MS Dhoni had opted to play Harbhajan Singh or Pragyan Ojha, or both. Michael Clarke, on examining the pitch, had said he expected similar turn and assistance for spinners as was available in Chennai and Hyderabad. The gloomy forecast, however, just might save Clarke’s depleted team the blushes at Mohali.

Zaheer Abbas demands batting coach for Pakistan

Zaheer Abbas demands batting coach for PakistanPakistan’s former Test batsman Zaheer Abbas has lamented the absence of quality batsmen in Pakistan and advised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to appoint a batting coach for the national team

Blaming the sub-standard performances of the top batting order for the devastating loss in South Africa, Abbas, also known as the ‘Asian Bradman’ said that those senior players in the side who have become a liability should be removed from the team, the Daily Times reports.

Abbas, who had played 78 Tests, said that the desire of every Pakistan cricketer to play in every format is the main problem for the inconsistent show of the team, adding that new talent should be included in the team.

Expressing his surprise to the fact that the players could not even cope up with the seam and movement in South Africa where the ball neither bounced much nor had the pace, the former captain added that the Pakistan cricketers appear to have become accustomed to playing only on subcontinent pitches.

Nick Compton, Jonathan Trott tons make it England’s day : 2nd Test #EngvNZ

Posted: 13 Mar 2013 11:45 PM PDT

Nick Compton, Jonathan Trott tons make it England's day 2nd TestEngland seized control of the second Test against New Zealand on Thursday as centuries by Nick Compton and Jonathan Trott put the tourists on course for a mammoth first innings total.

The pair racked up a 210-run partnership as England reached 267 for two at stumps at Wellington’s Basin Reserve, with Trott unbeaten on 121 and Kevin Pietersen 18 not out after Compton notched back-to-back Test centuries.

England punished New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum for sending them in to bat after winning the toss on a wicket that defied expectations and proved flat and true as cloud cover gave way to blue sky.

It provided perfect conditions for the tourists, who contented themselves with steady progress, determined not to repeat the mistakes of the drawn first Test, when they were bowled out for 167 in the first innings.

Alastair Cook’s dismissal in the first hour was the only blemish, with the England captain misjudging an inswinging delivery from Neil Wagner and scooping the ball to Peter Fulton at mid-on to depart for 17.

But his dismissal merely cleared the way for Compton and Trott to take charge, batting together for 63 overs to demoralise New Zealand’s bowlers, who toiled relentlessly for scant reward on the docile pitch.

The consistent Trott batted through most of the day to bring up his ninth Test century in the final session with a pull shot to the boundary, his 14th four of the innings.

Compton followed with his own ton soon after, dispatching Wagner to the ropes with a classic cover drive for his second century in successive innings.

He was out for 100 two overs later when an attempt to drive Bruce Martin caught an edge and carried to Ross Taylor in the slips.

But the assured innings is likely to consolidate the 29-year-old’s spot at the top of the order, which had been under pressure from Joe Root.

There were flashes of aggression when Compton and Trott resumed after lunch with England at 75-1. They clubbed 40 in a six-over spell before spinner Martin was brought on to stem the flow of runs.

The next 40 runs took more than 20 overs, with England happy to blunt the New Zealand attack and build towards a big total.

Pietersen curbed his big-hitting instincts when he replaced Compton, making his way to 18 off 48 balls after disappointing returns of 0 and 12 in the first Test.

England, ranked second in Test cricket, are favourites in the three-Test series.

New Zealand, ranked eighth, have not won a series against England since 1999, with their sole series victory on home soil back in 1984.

However, McCullum will be disappointed at the way his side lost momentum after dominating much of the first Test.
