Preview – Pakistan vs South Africa 2nd T20 Centurion 2013 #PakvsSA

Posted: 02 Mar 2013 10:48 AM PST

Preview - Pakistan vs South Africa 2nd T20 Centurion 2013Pakistan’s hope of striking back in the two-match Twenty20 series was doused when rain forced the first T20 to be called off on Friday. But the second tie on Sunday at SuperSport Park, Centurion give both the teams a chance to win the series.

The rain played spoilsport to the first outing in Durban and the prediction for the second are also not encouraging. However, the crowd will hope for a bright sunny day to spend their off day well with some cricket action.

Now five of South African current Test players are in the T20 squad – Faf du Plessis, who has been appointed captain in the shortest format, AB de Villiers, Robin Peterson, Rory Kleinveldt and new pace sensation Kyle Abbott.

The second Twenty20 will decide the two-match series after the first one was washed out in Durban.

On the other hand Pakistan will be led by Mohammad Hafeez, who will be confident with the inclusion of senior players Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik. Moreover, the Akmal brothers – Kamran and Umar who were not part of the Test side could boost the batting line-up of the visitors.

Probable XIs:
South Africa: 1 Henry Davids, 2 Faf du Plessis (capt), 3 Quinton de Kock (wk), 4 Justin Ontong, 5 David Miller, 6 Farhaan Behardien, 7 Rory Kleinveldt, 8 Robin Peterson, 9 Ryan McLaren, 10 Aaron Phangiso, 11 Morne Morkel/Kyle Abbott

Pakistan: 1 Nasir Jamshed, 2 Ahmed Shehzad, 3 Umar Akmal, 4 Mohammad Hafeez (capt), 5 Shahid Afridi, 6 Kamran Akmal (wk), 7 Shoaib Malik, 8 Umar Gul, 9 Sohail Tanvir, 10 Saeed Ajmal, 11 Mohammad Irfan.

My aim was to bowl within the line of stumps : Bhuvneshwar Kumar #IndvAus

Posted: 02 Mar 2013 09:15 AM PST

My aim was to bowl within the line of stumps - Bhuvneshwar KumarIndian seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar said that his main aim was to bowl “within the stumps” and that has helped him pick up three top-order Australian wickets on the opening day of the second Test.

“Something always happens during first hour. So I tried to bowl within the line of stumps. Since the wicket was slow in nature and the odd ball was keeping low, it (the plan) came off well,” Bhuvneshwar told reporters at the media conference after the opening day’s play.

Bhuvneshwar said there was no pressure on him though he had failed to get a wicket in his debut Test match in Chennai.

“We all know that spinners dominate in Indian conditions so it’s good if medium pacers can get at least two wickets,” said Bhuvneshwar, who had figures of three for 53 on Saturday.

Asked which among the three wickets was most satisfying, he said, “All three wickets were satisfying. Warner, Cowan and Watson have been scoring runs for Australia and I was happy to dismiss all three of them. It was always a dream to play Test for India and I was very happy when I got my first wicket. It could not have been better than this.”

Bhuvneshwar said that there was no specific reason for him and Ishant Sharma mainly operating from the Visaka End.

“There was nothing specific. It was just that spinners were operating from one end and that’s why we operated from the other end,” he said.

Although his senior partner Ishant did not get any wicket, Bhuvneshwar thanked him for his “guidance”.

“He is my senior and I learn a lot from him. It’s just part and parcel of the game that one gets wickets and one does not. As you saw that there was not much support from the track for medium pacers, he (Ishant) did quite well,” he said.

He said the Indian team was not surprised at all that the Australians declared at 237 for nine.

“We were not surprised at all. May be they understood that their last wicket will not get them too many runs and they wanted to get at least one of our wickets in the remaining three overs,” he said.

We can restrict India under 230, says Mathew Wade #IndvAus

Posted: 02 Mar 2013 08:34 AM PST

We can restrict India under 230, says Mathew WadeThey have not posted a big first innings total but Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade says their bowlers can still get them a lead against India in the second cricket Test.

Australia declared their innings at 237 for nine after electing to bat.

“These wickets are so different to what we are used to playing on. Any lead will be an advantage at this stage. I feel that if can we bowl well, we can definitely restrict India to under 230. We have got to bowl well enough,” said Wade, who scored a valuable 62 and added 145 runs for the fifth wicket with skipper Michael Clarke (91).

About the declaration at the fall of ninth wicket, Wade reasoned, “The main message that we tried sending was let’s try and get a couple of wickets tonight.”

“There was up and down bounce. We felt, if we can get the ball in the right areas, get one to stay low or get one to jump up, we can get a couple of nicks or a couple of lbws. May be, we can have a couple of wickets tonight. That didn’t happen but we are pretty confident that if we hit the stumps enough, we will create enough chances.”

Wade applauded the Indian bowlers for keeping up the pressure.

“They (bowlers) bowled well and the ball was reversing. They got early wickets and then challenged us with every ball they bowled. They will play their role throughout well.”

About his own innings, the 25-year-old Tasmanian said, “I felt in control today. I felt like my plans against the spinners and quicks came off pretty well. Still, it was pretty disappointing to get out when I did. Myself and Michael had built up a good platform. We lost a lot of wickets in that last session. I was satisfied in a way that my plans worked.”

Wade agreed that having Clarke for company during their century plus partnership did help him a lot.

“It was nice to have him there. He is a very experienced player and captain of our team and a very good player of spin as well. So it was nice to have him there just to bounce a few ideas off here and there. It was nice to have a partnership but it would have been nicer had still we remained at the crease tonight,” he said.

Wade was quick to defend youngsters Moises Henriques and debutant Glenn Maxwell, who were dismissed cheaply by Ravindra Jadeja.

“It would have been nice to get a few more runs going down the order today but Moises played out of his skin in the last Test match and Maxi’s (Maxwell’ nickname) first game. I think you will see big runs from those two throughout the tour.”

The glovesman was quick to admit that spinners will play a big role on Sunday.

“Absolutely, we have got two spinners plus Michael (Clarke) as well. Davey (David Warner) can have a bowl if he has to. Not only will they play a big role tomorrow but also the quicks. We will be hoping that our seamers can get a couple of lbws or bowled tomorrow.”

Wade didn’t want to be dragged into the discussion about whether the team members were kept in the loop regarding the changes in the side.

“The team gets announced a day before the game but we don’t go into why people aren’t playing. That’s a decision for Michael and the selectors and the coach to make. We are paid to play cricket for Australia and whatever XI is picked we are going to go out there and do our best to win. “

On a different note, Wade informed that there was absolutely no doubt about his participation in the match after he sustained an injury on his cheekbone (just below the left-eye) while facing throw downs.

“There was no doubt about it, really. I just needed to check how I woke up. Just to make sure, my eye didn’t close over. When I woke up, I looked in the mirror and I could see properly, so I was all good to play,” said the player, who had a deep black patch below his left-eye due to the hit.

Wade also said that when conditions suit the spinners, sweep is an important shot for a couple of their players.

“It’s about assessing when we play it. England played it here and scored a lot of runs, I think it is a valuable shot. Going into day four and five, sweep will probably play its role.”

Australia declare innings at 237/9 on Day 1, India in command in Hyderabad test #IndvAus

Australia declare innings at 237:9 on Day 1, India in command in Hyderabad testOpeners Virender Sehwag and Murali Vijay safely negotiated the three overs after Australia declared their innings at 237/9 the fag end of the first day of the second Test in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Harbhajan Singh and Ravindra Jadeja bowled magical spells after tea to leave Australia in tatters before they declared their innings at 237 for 9 on the first day of the second Test.

Ravindra Jadeja picked up the wickets of Moises Henriques, Glenn Maxwell and skipper Michael Clarke in quick succession to leave Australia in deep trouble.

On the other hand, Harbhajan, in his mission to justify his return to the Indian team, picked up the wickets of Matthew Wade and Peter Siddle.

The Australians were forced to declare right after Clarke (91) failed to withstand the aggressive approach of Jadeja, whose swinging delivery found the stumps with ease.

Clarke continued his impressive form on Indian soil but kept losing partners at the other end at regular intervals. The Indians will have three overs to play before the end of day’s play.

Maxwell’s (5) debut just lasted for 22 balls as Jadeja’s good length ball proved too good for him to play and Indian skipper MS Dhoni made no mistake behind the stumps to take the catch.

Before that, Jadeja dismissed Moises Henriques when his swinging delivery left Henriques (5) completely mesmerized, who in his attempt to defend the ball was clean bowled, leaving Australia in a gloomier position.

Earlier, Harbhajan Singh gave India a breakthrough when he broke the partnership between skipper Michael Clarke and Matthew Wade by dismissing the latter after tea.

Clarke and Wade put an impressive 145-run partnership to take Australia past the 200-run mark when Clarke continued his rich vein of form.

The Oz skipper rescued the visitors from a precarious position with a responsible half-century and along with Wade helped Australia reached 187 for four at tea, after being reduced to 63 for four during the first session of play.

If the opening session belonged to India, who sent back four top-order Australian batsmen back to the hut, the post-lunch session undoubtedly belonged to the Aussie pair of Clarke and Wade, who put on 124 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket stand.

Clarke started from where he had left in Chennai and found a gutsy partner in left-hander Wade as they engineered an impressive fightback.

The Aussie captain was batting on 68 with the help of eight boundaries and a six while Wade, who was in doubt for the match after fracturing his cheekbone during a freak accident during a training session here, reached 55 with the help of seven boundaries.

The duo had their anxious moments but overall they handled the spin troika of Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh and Ravindra Jadeja with ease.

While Clarke again used his feet to perfection, Wade decided to play with the spin on most occasions as they logged 104 runs in the second session.

Earlier, with suitable help from a strip that is offering variable bounce, talented UP seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar rocked the Australian top-order with a triple-strike in his first spell removing openers David Warner and Ed Cowan along with the dangerous Shane Watson.

After a luckless first Test, where the Indian spinners got all the 20 Australian wickets, India’s new ball bowlers, especially Bhuvneshwar gave a much better account of themselves hitting the right areas.

The Australian top-order played shots during the first session but was often troubled by the deliveries that were keeping low.

Young Bhuvneshwar, operating from the Visaka End, bowled couple of leg-cutters (off-cutter for left-handers) to get rid of Warner and Cowan in the third and fifth over of the innings respectively.

In case of Warner (6), the delivery landed on the seam and cut back enough to take the inside edge of his bat knocking the off-stump back. This was Bhuvneshwar’s maiden Test scalp.

In his very next over, the 23-year-old removed Cowan with a similar delivery. The ball landed on the seam and moved a shade as Cowan was trapped plumb in-front.

To make matters worse, the ball kept really low and umpire Marais Erasmus adjudged the batsman leg before.

From 15 for two, Phillip Hughes (19) and Watson (23) tried to make amends with a 42-run partnership. Both looked assured with their footwork.

Watson, in particular, hit some lovely drives off both Ishant and Bhuvneshwar’s bowling. Just when it looked like Watson was getting set, he completely misjudged the length of a Bhuvneshwar delivery and was trapped leg before in the process.

The seamer bowled a short one and the ball kept low as it came back in. The batsman committed himself early to a pull shot but missed the delivery completely to be hit on the thigh pads.

Umpire Erasmus had a long hard look before raising his dreaded finger. Bhuvneshwar bowled an unchanged spell of nine overs and his figures read 9-1-36-3.

With the fall of wickets, Ashwin, introduced from the pavilion ends kept things very tight bowling four consecutive maidens.

Hughes, under pressure to get a big knock, finally caved in when Ashwin bowled a typical off-break and the batsman went for a cut-shot. Dhoni fumbled on the first attempt but held on to the catch to make it 63 for four.

Clarke, however batted with a lot of composure as he even danced down the track to lift Ashwin for a big six.

New Zealand XI beat England in warm-up game #EngvNZ

New Zealand XI beat England in warm-up gameEngland lost their four-day warm-up match by three wickets on Saturday when a New Zealand XI chased down a 333-run target with eight balls to spare.

BJ Watling led the charge with an unbeaten 89 while opener Tom Latham made 48 as England lost a first-class warm-up match for the first time since being beaten by an Indian side seven years ago.

England declared at their overnight second innings total of 256 for nine — with Matt Prior (68) the main contributor and Graeme Swann unbeaten on 41 — but their hopes for an early breakthrough did not eventuate.

Latham and Hamish Rutherford, in contention for one opening spot in the New Zealand Test team, put on 56 for the first wicket when Chris Woakes dismissed Rutherford for 33.

Stuart Broad produced a glimmer of hope when he bowled Carl Cachopa for a duck before Neil Broom (41) settled in with Latham to lead New Zealand out of trouble.

Broad also dismissed Broom and Woakes removed Brownlie (17) to have New Zealand at 167-5 at tea before Watling dominated the final session in partnership with all-rounder Cory Anderson (44).

Joe Root, who claimed the wickets of Anderson and Jimmy Neesham (20) finished with figures of two for 42, Woakes took two for 67 and Broad two for 90.

Graham Onions, however, suffered in the big hitting close to finish with none for 82 off 16 overs while Swann, who claimed Latham’s wicket, had one for 44 off 20.

I would have struggled against Indian spinners at Chennai, says Michael Hussey #IndvAus

Posted: 01 Mar 2013 11:41 PM PST

would have struggled against Indian spinners Michael HusseyRetired Michael Hussey has claimed he would have struggled to mount a Chennai salvage mission against world class Indian spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh and Ravindra Jadeja despite a penchant to wriggle Australia from desperate predicaments.

Hussey said he doesn’t miss playing cricket for Australia anymore, adding his decision to retire was right, and it would be silly to say that he could have rescued the visitors in the Chennai Test, News.com.au reports.

Hussey, who piled 6235 Test runs at 51.52, added looking at that pitch (Chennai) he didn’t wanted to be the one out there trying to help Australia in that Test, adding it looked particularly tough.

Hussey further said it is silly to say that he would have made a difference, adding there were some pretty tough dismissals, the ball that Phil Hughes got in the second innings and Shane Watson were pretty much unplayable, there’s not much you can do about it sometimes.

Meanwhile, Australia has lost four wickets in the first session of the Hyderabad Test after Michael Clarke won the toss and decided to bat first. (ANI)

Zimbabwe vs West Indies 1st T20 live streams

Zimbabwe started the tour with a poor performance loosing the ODI series 0-3 and now will be looking to gain momentum in the 2 match T20 series followed by a test series. West Indies outplayed Zimbabwe in all department. they bowled well, batted well and didn’t gave Zimbabwe enough chance to score runs. Zimbabwe batsman failed to play Sunil Narine and sloppy fielding all around cost them the series. Zimbabwe batsman looks rusty which maybe due to lack of international games for them. West Indies have been the T20 champions and playing against them will be exciting. Zimbabwe just need to get the basics right and need to show more commitment in the field. They need to work on their fielding, dropping catches, giving away runs wont help them.

Neil Wagner included in New Zealand squad for England test series #EngvNZ

Neil Wagner included in New Zealand squad for England test seriesLeft-arm paceman Neil Wagner has been rewarded with a place in New Zealand’s squad for the first test against England after taking six wickets in the ongoing tour match in Queenstown.

The South Africa-born 26-year-old joins a squad of 13 for the March 6 test in Dunedin, New Zealand Cricket said in a statement on Saturday, and could earn his fourth test cap if the hosts elect to field an all-pace attack.

The four-day tour match between a New Zealand XI and England XI finishes later on Saturday.

2nd Test : Australia wins toss, opts to bat vs India – Hyderabad 2013 #IndvsAus

Posted: 01 Mar 2013 07:36 PM PST

Toss: Australia have won the toss and elected to bat

Clarke: We spoke a lot after the game about areas where we could improve. We’ve prepared well. The wicket looks harder than the one in Chennai. The spinners will still play a part and it will get up and down as the game goes on. Lyon and Starc sit out. Doherty and Maxwell are in. Maxwell makes his debut.

Dhoni: There will be a bit more pace and bounce for the pacers. Reverse swing will be crucial. The surface is dry so there will be reverse swing here. We worked on bowling in one area consistently. Partnerships are the key on wickets like this. We’ve got off to a good start in the series, we have to capitalise. Each game is a fresh one so we can’t think too far ahead. We are unchanged.
