Farhat, Misbah help Pakistan snatch thriller to level series #PakvsSA #SAvPak

Farhat, Misbah help Pakistan snatch thriller to level seriesPakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq led his side to a three-wicket win over South Africa in the fourth one-dayer Thursday, setting up a series decider in the final match in Benoni on Sunday.

Misbah made 80 and Imran Farhat scored 93 as Pakistan chased down South Africa’s total of 234 for nine with eight balls to spare.

Misbah and opening batsman Farhat shared a 153-run fourth wicket partnership after Pakistan had been struggling at 33 for three after 11 overs.

The early wickets included that of Mohammad Hafeez, who was given out for obstructing the field in the second over.

He changed direction and was hit on the leg by a throw from South African wicketkeeper and captain AB de Villiers, who was throwing at the stumps at the bowler’s end when Hafeez was several metres out of his ground.

Hafeez was only the fourth batsmen — and the third Pakistani — to be dismissed for obstructing the field in one-day internationals.

Pakistan’s fast bowlers struck early and off-spinner Saeed Ajmal took three crucial middle order wickets as South Africa struggled after winning the toss, despite a fourth wicket stand of 115 between captain De Villiers (75) and David Miller (67).

South Africa’s troubles started early when the tall left-armer Mohammad Irfan took wickets with the first two balls of the match.

He had Hashim Amla caught behind, then bowled Colin Ingram with a yorker.

Fellow left-armer Junaid Khan followed up with the wickets of Graeme Smith and Farhaan Behardien as South Africa slumped to 38 for four after winning the toss.

De Villiers and Miller gave the home side hope of making a good total before Miller missed a sweep against Ajmal and was out after a career-best innings. Miller’s 67 was scored off 77 balls and he hit seven fours.

Miller’s dismissal came nine balls before the batting power play and South Africa’s hopes plummeted when De Villiers was caught behind when he was adjudged to have gloved a sweep against Ajmal.

The off-spinner had Ryan McLaren caught in the deep as the power play yielded just 17 runs for the loss of two wickets.

Ajmal took three for 42 in ten overs, while Irfan claimed three for 46 in nine and Junaid took three for 45 in nine.

Misbah and Farhat started their stand slowly, with the fifty partnership taking 82 balls, but they picked up the pace, helped by the introduction into the South African attack of part-time leg-spinner Ingram, whose first over in international cricket cost 17 runs, including two sixes and a four by Misbah.

They had been together for 187 balls when Misbah, who has yet to hit a century in 113 innings, holed out to deep midwicket when 49 runs were still required.

India vs Australia 4th Test Live Streams delhi 2013

Australia will play their final match of the tour which has been disappointing so far after a humiliating 0-3 loss. Australia have lost the Border-Gavaskar trophy but all that left is their pride. Michael Clarke has been doubtful for the final ODI and Shane Watson has returned to the squad for the final test match at the Delhi. If Clarke is not 100% fit Watson will lead the side, he was axed for not completing the home work before the 3rd test. Mitchell Starc has returned to Australia for treatment of his ankle injury. A lot has been going on in the Australian camp and this is the final test. Can they save the 4-0 whitewash against India in India?

India are in comfortable position and is all up to go for 4-0 in the final test. Shikhar Dhawan, the man who came into the test cricket with a bang has been ruled out due to injury. Suresh Raina has been named the replacement for him but will he get the chance? Ajinkya Rahane is already sitting in the camp waiting for his chance but will he get it? Who will open for India with Murli Vijay thats one question Indian team need to figure out. So far spinners have ruled the series with Sir Ravindra Jadeja being the surprise package for team India. Can India whitewash Australia?

Pakistan vs South Africa 4th ODI Post Match Presentation – 21 March 2013 #PakvsSA

Posted: 21 Mar 2013 09:23 AM PDT

Misbah: ‘That was a much needed victory for us, it was a combined effort and I’m really pleased. Farhat batted really well, we needed one to bat throughout the innings and he batted responsibly. Wonderful start by Irfan, especially Amla’s wicket – which you dream of. Wherever there is a little help, Ajmal is a key man. All the others chipped in as well. It’s like playing in Lahore [referring to the crowd at Durban], thanks for supporting us. Not easy with the way they were bowling and the pressure they put us under. We weren’t under any pressure, just planned to go out and play our natural game. Malik really handled the pressure well at the end.’

Misbah is the Man of the Match as well for his composed 80.

AB: ‘Two quality sides, unfortunately we lost our momentum too often today. We were 20 short and I got out at the wrong time. Sometimes you will be 2 down for nothing early on and that’s a part of ODI cricket. We fought back well and showed character and I’m pretty proud of that. We will go to Benoni and work on those small little things. Lots of positives from today and I will hang on to those as we head into the final ODI. The pitch played alright, it wasn’t going to be a high-scoring game and both teams played pretty well. It is sort of a part of my home town but won’t claim that. Hopefully it will be a great game there.’

Mohammad Hafeez got out for obstructing the field in Pakistan-South Africa 4th ODI

Posted: 21 Mar 2013 07:44 AM PDT

Mohammad Hafeez got out for obstructing the field in Pakistan-South Africa 4th ODIPakistan opening batsman Mohammad Hafeez was given out by the rarely used rule of obstructing the field in a one-day international against South Africa on Thursday.

Hafeez’s body blocked a throw by South Africa wicketkeeper AB de Villiers as the batsman ran to the non-striker’s end in the fourth ODI at Kingsmead.

Hafeez was judged to have changed the course of his run to prevent a run out and was given out according to a rule introduced by the International Cricket Council in 2011.

Hafeez, yet to score, angrily ripped off his gloves when the decision was made by TV umpire Billy Bowden after an appeal by the South Africans.

Previously, batsmen were allowed to change their course as they ran between ends to put themselves between a throw and the stumps, but that was outlawed two years ago.

The opener was the first batsman in international cricket to be dismissed under the new rule and just the fifth in the history of Test and one-day internationals to be given out under the general obstructing the field law.

England’s Len Hutton was out obstructing the field during a Test against South Africa in 1951, still the only Test cricketer to be dismissed in that way.

Two other Pakistan players, Rameez Raja and Inzamam-ul-Haq, and India’s Mohinder Amarnath are the only other players to go for obstructing the field in ODIs.

The last before Hafeez on Thursday was Inzamam in 2006 when he used his bat to block a throw from India fielder Suresh Raina while standing out of his crease.

Preview - India vs Australia, 4th Test, Delhi 2013Standing on the cusp of history, an upbeat India will go for the kill against a beleaguered Australia as they aim for an unprecedented 4-0 clean sweep by inflicting another defeat on the visitors in the fourth and final cricket Test starting here tomorrow.

Although the Indian team under Mohammed Azharuddin enjoyed a clean sweep against Graham Gooch’s England back in 1993 but it was a three-Test series.

In their 81-year history of Test cricket, India have never won four consecutive Test matches in a series and Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his boys will certainly hold the distinction of being the first if they can get past Michael Clarke’s men at the Feroze Shah Kotla.

Skipper Dhoni does not endorse the word ‘revenge’ in sport but there is no denying the fact that his band of boys will be keen on setting the record straight having lost the series ‘Down Under’ by an identical margin.

A lot of people have been sceptical about praising the performance of the Indian team against an Australian side which many consider to be the most inexperienced team which has come for a series in the sub-continent.

But this series win has certainly helped Dhoni in partially restoring his “Captain Cool” image which had taken a serious beating after losing 1-2 at home against England after eight consecutive Test losses overseas.

On paper, India start as overwhelming favourites on a low and slow Feroz Shah Kotla track as the Aussie batsmen are yet to decode India’s spinners during a series which will be remembered for all wrong reasons from the visiting team’s perspective.

Adding to their woes, Michael Clarke is a doubtful starter and his unavailability will only dent their chance of salvaging some pride and ending the series on a happy note.

Shikhar Dhawan would be cursing his luck that he is missing out on an opportunity to play a Test match in front of his home crowd after suffering a knuckle injury while fielding.

Suresh Raina has got another lucky break in longer format despite repeated failures and knowing Dhoni’s fondness for the UP left-hander, there is every possibility that he might get another shot to redeem his Test career.

Given the lacklustre condition of the Australian bowling attack, one won’t be surprised if Raina also feasts on Nathan Lyon and co. and his career gets a second wind.

This will mean a tricky situation as to who will be opening the innings. For all practical purposes, it is supposed to be Mumbai batsman Ajinkya Rahane who should be partnering the in-form Murali Vijay.

There is a school of thought that Rahane has been earmarked for a slot in the middle-order and the wait might just get longer for the Mumbaikar.

In case Rahane fails to earn his maiden Test cap, Cheteshwar Pujara might be seen opening with Vijay while Raina will be taking the No 5 slot in the batting order. Virat Kohli, who has the experience of batting at No 3, is likely to be promoted.

The Delhi Test will be 198th in Sachin Tendulkar’s illustrious career and as per the ICC itinerary, India don’t play any home Test matches in the next 12 months.

So one doesn’t know if the legend will be again seen in action in white flannels on the home soil.

The bowling attack looks more or less settled with both Bhuvneshwar Kumar and especially Ishant Sharma putting up a much improved performance in the Mohali Test match.

What has been working for India is Bhuvneshwar has been good with the new ball and Ishant has managed to get some reverse swing going his way with the old ball.

With Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja also posing a lot of problems, the picture doesn’t look bright for senior pro Harbhajan Singh. The veteran of 101 Test matches is likely to sit out once again at the expense of left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha.

For Australia, Shane Watson is all set to make a comeback after the ‘Homework gate’ episode while James Pattinson looks to be a direct replacement of injured left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc, who will undergo an ankle surgery.

Pattinson will share the new ball with workhorse Peter Siddle who was fantastic in both the innings in Mohali and looked very effective with the semi-new ball in India’s second innings.

Steven Smith’s impressive 92 have certainly sealed his place in the playing XI. Phil Hughes’ fledgling career has also got a fresh breath after his 69 in the second innings at Mohali. Hughes, who had not even accumulated 50 runs in the five innings prior to that might just retain his place.

This would mean bad news for Usman Khawaja, who might then have to wait for his Test recall.

Teams From:
India: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt), Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh, Pragyan Ojha, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Suresh Raina, Ashok Dinda.

Australia: Michael Clarke (capt), Shane Watson, Ed Cowan, David Warner, Phil Hughes, Usman Khawaja, Glenn Maxwell, Peter Siddle, James Pattinson, Nathan Lyon, Moises Henriques, Xavier Doherty, Steve Smith, Brad Haddin, Matthew Wade, Mitchell Johnson.

Toss: South Africa have won the toss and elected to bat

AB de Villiers: ‘We will bat first. It looks like a good deck. The wicket does not look all that bad. The quality of our seamers ensure that we will extract good bounce. We will like to keep the consistency going. David Miller replaces Faf du Plessis. We were tempted to play Morne Morkel but all the players have been playing well.’

Misbah-ul-Haq: ‘It is just a matter of giving away too many runs in the first 10 overs. I hope that this wicket suits our bowlers. It looks rough. Morale is good but it is tough been away from home for close to two and a half months. Imran Farhat replaces Nasir Jamshed.’

Teams:
South Africa (Playing XI): Graeme Smith, Hashim Amla, Colin Ingram, AB de Villiers(w/c), David Miller, Farhaan Behardien, Ryan McLaren, Robin Peterson, Rory Kleinveldt, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo Tsotsobe

Pakistan (Playing XI): Imran Farhat, Mohammad Hafeez, Kamran Akmal(w), Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq(c), Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, Wahab Riaz, Saeed Ajmal, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Irfan

Pitch Report: There is a wind blowing from the North-East and thus there will be no swing. There is no grass on this deck. It has been trimmed and it has been rolled on. There will not be much turn on this pitch. It is a batting paradise.
