Shikhar Dhawan ruled out, Suresh Raina called up for India-Australia 4th Test at DelhiIndia’s latest batting sensation Shikhar Dhawan was on Tuesday ruled out of the fourth and final Test against Australia starting here on Friday, as he will be out of action for six weeks due to a fracture on his left hand which he sustained while fielding during the third match at Mohali.

The BCCI said in a statement that Gautam Gambhir, who was omitted from the initial squad for the four-match series due to a prolonged form slump, was included in the team but he also could not be available due to jaundice. The selection committee then picked Suresh Raina to join the team.

“Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out of the fourth Test against Australia, scheduled to be played at Delhi from 22 March 2013 to 26 March 2013, after sustaining a fracture in his left hand. He will be out of action for six weeks,” the BCCI said in a statement.

“The All India Senior Selection Committee then added Gautam Gambhir and Suresh Raina to the squad for the fourth Test. However, Gambhir has been diagnosed with jaundice, after undergoing a blood test, earlier on Tuesday.

The official announcement of the team was delayed, as the Board was waiting for the copy of report. Gambhir will not take part in Delhi Test, as a result,” BCCI Secretary Sanjay Jagdale said in the release.

Dhawan, who had smashed his way into the record books on Saturday by scoring the fastest-ever Test century on debut in India’s first innings in the third Test against Australia, would consider himself to be unlucky as he would miss a Test match in front of his home crowd.

Dhawan, who made 187 at Mohali, suffered a hand injury while fielding on the fourth day.

The Indian team for the fourth Test:

India: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Captain), Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, R Ashwin, Pragyan Ojha, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ajinkya Rahane, Ashok Dinda, Suresh Raina, Ishant Sharma.

Angelo Mathews: There was a little bit of pressure in the 1st Test. Herath has been unbelievable. He has been the man for us since Murali retired. We can still improve, there is a lot to learn. The Bangladeshis have played really good cricket in the recent past, but I never doubted my team.

Mushfiqur Rahim: If we look back, we did not do well in the 1st innings of the 2nd Test. We needed to back up some young players and give them motivation. The boys are playing really well, hopefully we can play more Tests. Nasir, Momimunl and Ashraful are the biggest positives. Its always tough to play against Sri Lanka.

Mushfiqur Rahim is the most valuable player of the series from Bangladesh

Kumar Sangakkara: There are no short-cuts in Test cricket. There is no secret, you have to put in a lot of hard-work and preparation. You have to make sure that for every match you have to be prepared fully. I just try and keep a tab on my hundreds. Sachin, Lara, Kallis and Ponting are the greatest. I just want the appreciation of the public. This was a tough Test for Angelo. Bangladesh will walk away from this series with a lot of confidence. They played really well. A lot of credit to their captain and bowlers

Kumar Sangakkara is the Man of the Series.

Rangana Herath: I didn’t know about the records, but I am really happy, to be honest. I dont mind where the ball goes. I knew the game was in our game after we took those wickets today morning.

Rangana Herath is the Man of the Match.

Mitchell Starc to miss 4th test due to ankle injuryAustralian pace bowler Mitchell Starc will have surgery later this week on an ankle injury as he races the clock to be fit for the Ashes series against England.

The left-armer will return from the team’s tour of India early, missing the fourth Test, for the operation.

Australian team doctor Peter Brukner said Starc, who has taken 30 wickets in his nine-Test career, would have bone spurs on his right ankle removed.

“Mitch will have surgery later this week and we’ll assess his recovery as he returns to bowling,” he said in a statement.

Coach Mickey Arthur said they wanted to get the surgery done as soon as possible to ensure he was ready for the Ashes series beginning in July.

“We were aware that Mitch would need surgery at some point in the future to have the spurs removed,” he said.

“He could have continued playing but we want to take a proactive approach in managing Mitch to have him fit for the Ashes series in England.”

Australia are losing the four Test series against India 3-0. AFP is not covering the series between India and Australia after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) failed to lift restrictions on picture agencies.

Shahid Afridi worried by his poor bowling form #PakvsSA

Shahid Afridi worried by his poor bowling formDespite being in good batting knick in the ongoing limited-over series against South Africa, flamboyant Pakistani allrounder Shahid Afridi said it is his bowling form that is worrying him.

Afridi, who played a belligerent 88-run knock off merely 48 balls, has been making useful contribution with the bat in this series as doubts were raised over his future in the side due a slump in his batting form.

“It feels good to be batting well again. My confidence is back but I still want to regain my good form in bowling because to me bowling has always been my strength,” he told Geo News channel from South Africa.

Afridi had earlier scored quick-fire 16-ball 34 in the first ODI. However, he has gone wicketless in the first three ODIs and has struggled with his bowling.

A concerned Afridi said he was working hard with the Pakistan bowling coach, Muhammad Akram to regain his touch.

“I want to bowl well again for my team because in the past my bowling has been a key strength for the team,” he said.

The allrounder feels that the new ODI rules which make it mandatory or fielding sides to have five fielders inside the circle all the time has made life difficult for the spinners.

“I am still learning to cope with these new rules which have made it difficult not only for me but also my fellow spinners like Saeed Ajmal and Mohammad Hafeez. We are working on new ways to cope with the new rules because spin is our strength and we are conceding too many runs,” Afridi said.

Afridi also said that he was ready to bat at any position depending on the requirement of the team.

“I am always prepared to bat at any position if my captain wants, even at number one or two. I have batted at different positions for Pakistan in the past. What is good for me is that I am now feeling comfortable batting and the confidence is back. I have struggled a lot and it has been a hard journey for me,” he said.

Afridi said despite his poor form with the bat he had not given up hope and knew that the bad patch would get over soon.

“Every sportsman and person faces good and bad times and one has to show character and cope with every situation,” he said.
