Chennai Super Kings Vs Rajasthan Royals Post Match Presentation IPL 2012

Posted: 10 May 2012 01:15 PM PDT

Ben Hilfenhaus : Very exciting game of cricket. The conditions suited the bowlers. T20 is a funny game I think. Highs and lows change all the time. It was a very good surface. I hope I get more wickets. It was a very good experience.

Ben Hilfenhaus is the Man of the Match

Rahul Dravid: You need to accept that Albie and Anirudha played some exceptional cricket shots. Credit to the Chennai bowlers. We were 20-25 runs short. We are disappointed. We have played a few good games, but haven’t gone over the rope. We are hanging in there by our fingernails.

MS Dhoni: It’s (taking the games till the last over) not someting we are doing intentionally. Whatever the score has been, the top order has not performed. We dont have too many big fifties. The pressure mounts on the lower order batsmen. We need to enjoy ourselves on the field. I think Anirudha is quite exciting. It’s difficult to keep him out. It was a game we could have easily lost. He has earned himself a place for the next games. It’s better to keep a person playing the role he is ideally suited for. Dont need to play Morkel at number 3 or 4.

Mohammad Hafeez appointed Pakistan’s T20 captain

Posted: 10 May 2012 09:05 AM PDT

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Mohammad Hafeez in place of Misbah ul Haq as the captain of the T20 squad for the upcoming tour to Sri Lanka. While Misbah would continue to lead the Pakistan side in Tests and ODIs, Hafeez will also be his deputy in the two formats.

Former captains Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik were in contention for captaining the T20 side but PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf has indicated that they were looking at a long-term option.

“Misbah has rendered great service to Pakistan cricket but we felt it is time to appoint someone younger for T20 format,” Ashraf told a press conference, on Thursday.

“We have picked Hafeez keeping in mind the future but Misbah will continue to lead in Tests and ODIs. The appointments are for the coming tour to Sri Lanka,” he said.

Pakistan will tour Sri Lanka from May 29 to play three Tests, five ODIs and two T20 matches.

Warner powers Delhi Daredevils to a thumping win over Deccan Chargers: IPL 2012

Posted: 10 May 2012 08:27 AM PDT

David Warner produced a powerful performance as he slammed 109 to power Delhi Daredevils to an emphatic nine-wicket victory over Deccan Chargers in IPL 5 match at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Chasing 188-run target, David Warner notched up 52-ball fifty to lead Delhi Daredevils after losing Virender Sehwag early against Deccan Chargers in IPL 5 match at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Naman Ojha also found his form with smashing the first half-century of the season to ensure Daredevils victory. Ojha hammered four huge sixes and a four.

Warner powered Daredevils past100 runs in just nine overs to set the tone for Delhi. Warner, who smashed seven fours and three sixes in his quick-fire fifty, added unbeaten 100 runs stand with Naman Ojha in just 55 balls to put Delhi on top.

After smashing 84 with the bat, Deccan Chargers’ Shikhar Dhawan struck in the first over to remove Virender Sehwag and give Delhi Daredevils huge blow.

Sehwag started off the innings with a boundary on the first delivery and he looked for another one, went for a slog over long-on, got an outside edge and Cameron White took a marvelous catch. Interestingly, the pair who steered Chargers to the mammoth total, was involved in Sehwag’s dismissal

Earlier, Dhawan (84 off 49 balls) and White (65 off 40 balls) helped Deccan Chargers post a stiff 188-run target for Delhi Daredevils.

Varun Aaron ended White’s scintillating knock in the last over of the innings when keeper Naman Ojha took high running catch at the square-leg region.

JP Duminy hit two fours in a row on the last two deliveries to take Chargers to 187 in the stipulated 20 overs. Dhawan and White stitched 126-run stand to put Delhi Daredevils on backfoot.

Dhawan’s flamboyant knock finally came to an end when the batsman got run-out as he went for the second run. He smacked nine fours and five sixes in his 84 runs knock.

White continued his good run in the tournament by scoring another half century in just 33 balls with the help of six fours and a six. Dhawan and White reached their century stand in just 59 balls to guide towards the big total on the board.

Dhawan notched up 37-ball fifty to lead Deccan innings that was studded with four fours and four sixes. It was raining boundaries in Hyderabad as Dhawan and White hammered boundaries all over the park which suddenly turned the momentum in Chargers way.

Dhawan and White took Hyderabad past 100 runs in 13 overs with their powerful batting display.

Delhi pacers Morne Morkel and Varun Aaron struck to dismiss Daniel Harris and Kumar Sangakkara in IPL 5 match against Deccan Chargers at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Deccan lost two wickets in quick succession after a decent start. Harris and Shikhar Dhawan added 28 runs for the first wicket before Morkel removed the former in the fifth over.

Chargers got off to a good start as Harris and Dhawan hammered two boundaries each in the first two overs to give Deccan early momentum.

Earlier, Deccan skipper Sangakkara won the toss and opted to bat against Delhi in the 55th match of the tournament.

The Daredevils made two changes to their side, bringing in Andre Russell, who gets his first game, and Venugopal Rao in place of Ross Taylor, out with a niggle, and Umesh Yadav.

For Deccan Chargers, JP Duminy is back into the playing XI in place of Rusty Theron, while Manpreet Gony and TP Sudhindra are also being included.

Toss: Chennai Super Kings have won the toss and elected to field

Teams:
Chennai Super Kings (Playing XI): Michael Hussey, Murali Vijay, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni(w/c), Albie Morkel, Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Srikkanth Anirudha, Ravichandran Ashwin, Vijaykumar Yo Mahesh, Ben Hilfenhaus

Rajasthan Royals (Playing XI): Rahul Dravid(c), Ajinkya Rahane, Shane Watson, Ashok Menaria, Brad Hodge, Johan Botha, Stuart Binny, Dishant Yagnik(w), Siddharth Trivedi, Pankaj Singh, Shaun Tait

Dhoni: We need to be consistent. It’s something you have to do as a side, we have won 1 game and lost the next and so on. We have not got the momentum but it’s important to stand up and get the momentum in the business end of the tournament. Our batting has been a concern, I was talking to Fleming about it – only 1 batsmen has got a fifty for us. With the rain aruond, the game can get shorterned and that’ll help us if it happens. Badri and du Plessis are not well. Hussey and Anirudha come in. Yo Mahesh replaces Jakati.

Dravid: Things are looking good and it’s nice to come into the game with confidence. It is dangerous to look too far into the tournament. We focus on one game at a time and take it from there. Tait has been fresh and he had a slight elbow injury in the early part of the tournament. Credit to him as he has come in and performed straightaway. Quite happy to bat first. We’ll look to put up a score and put the pressure on CSK. The new ball will do a bit but it’ll be the same for both sides. Hodge comes in for Owais Shah. Pankaj Singh comes in for Chavan.

Warner: It’s a great feeling to be back to the top of the table. Fantastic to be part of the team when it’s doing well. I saw a few games when I was in WI and the top order has been doing well. We know that batting second under lights makes it a bit easy, the wicket gets better and lively. Batting in the nets works better for me than working out in the gym, that’s the way I practice.

David Warner is the Man of the Match.. obviously!

Sangakkara: Warner hit it hard and clean. He took the game away from us after we got Sehwag. The wicket was different from the last game but we didn’t get any wickets and that hurt us. Sometimes too much excitement can get you out and you have to be careful, stay calm.

Sehwag: We knew that we had the batting line up. We needed a good start. 188 was difficult but Warner made it look easy. I was trying to hit over long on but the ball swung away and I got out, it happens. We have to be calm always, it doesn’t matter to me if it’s test ot T20 . I’ll see the ball and hit it, for me cricket is simple and different from what others think.

Pakistan announce squad for Sri Lanka tour 2012

Posted: 10 May 2012 07:59 AM PDT

The Pakistan selection committee had a bagful of surprises while announcing separate Test, ODI and T20 squads for the coming tour to Sri Lanka.

After the PCB chairman, Zaka Ashraf had announced that Mohammad Hafez would be the new T20 captain and vice-captain to Misbah-ul-Haq in Tests and ODIs, the selectors dropped Misbah from the T20 squad.

Announcing a number of new faces and recalling some stalwarts in all three teams, the selectors clearly signaled a new line of thinking for Pakistan cricket.

Surprisingly fast bowler, Mohammad Sami who has been sidelined from national team since 2010 was recalled for all three formats of the game while another surprise was the recall of discarded batsman, Faisal Iqbal to the test side.

Interestingly allrounder, Shoaib Malik who was being seen as a top candidate to replace Misbah as the T20 captain has not been picked in either format.

Squad (Twenty20): Mohammad Hafeez (c), Khalid Latif, Ahmed Shahzad, Shoaib Malik, Umar Akmal, Shakeel Ansar, Shahid Afridi, Yasir Arafat, Umar Gul, Sohail Tanveer, Saeed Ajmal, Raza Hasan, Haris Sohail, Mohammad Sami, Hammad Azam, Nasir Jamshed.

One-day: Misbah-ul Haq (c), Mohammad Hafeez, Nasir Jamshed, Younis Khan, Umar Akmal, Sarfraz Ahmed, Shahid Afridi, Umar Gul, Rahat Ali, Saeed Ajmal, Abdul Rehman, Mohammad Sami, Asad Shafiq, Aizaz Cheema, Azhar Ali, Imran Farhat

Test: Misbah-ul Haq (c), Mohammad Hafeez, Taufeeq Umar, Azhar Ali, Younis Khan, Asad Shafiq, Adnan Akmal, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, Abdul Rehman, Mohammad Sami, Faisal Iqbal, Junaid Khan, Afaq Rahim, Mohammad Ayub, Aizaz Cheema. (PTI)

IPL 2012 Preview: Rajasthan Royals vs Chennai Super Kings, 10 May 2012

Posted: 09 May 2012 06:30 PM PDT

Upbeat after their two consecutive victories, Rajasthan Royals would aim for a hat-trick of wins and inch closer to a playoffs spot when they take on an insipid Chennai Super Kings in an Indian Premier League match.

Rajasthan have the winning momentum with them and have emerged from the shock of four consecutive defeats by posting two impressive wins over Kings XI Punjab and Pune Warriors.

The match will be a keenly-fought contest because a defeat here might just spoil the chances of either team to make it to playoffs.

The team composition for the previous two matches has been remarkable for Rajasthan Royals. With Australian all-rounder Shane Watson and pacer Shaun Tait in the side, they have proved that they are better as a team than their more fancied rivals.

Shane Watson has been in fine form both with the bat and ball while Tait has proved that he is more than a handful in conditions that suit him.

The batting of the hosts revolves round the opening partnership of skipper Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane who has surrendered his orange cap to Delhi skipper Virender Sehwag.

Shane Watson, at number three, has added strength by smashing the bowlers while Ashok Menaria, Brad Hodge and Owais Shah have played their role to perfection.

The bowling has been consistent and Shaun Tait, who had to wait for a couple of games to get a chance, has been lethal in the past two matches. The reliable Sidhartha Trivedi and Watson give a settled look to bowling.

On the other hand, champions for the past two years, Chennai Super Kings have not been in prime form this season and are languishing at sixth with five victories and six defeats.

They have not been able to finish off close games and have lacked consistency.

But Chennai have enjoyed a three-day break which might have provided them with enough time to regroup and plan for their remaining four games. The fact that they are the most successful IPL team, having played in three finals and have been victorious twice, should also give them confidence.

Besides, Mahendra Singh Dhoni leads a team that boasts of several international stars who have the ability to turn games.

Their batting has a solid look on paper with Faf du Plessis and Murali Vijay at the top and the likes of Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo, Dhoni and S Badrinath coming down the order.

All-rounders such as Ravindra Jadeja, Albie Morkel and R Ashwin add depth to the line-up. The bowling appears strong with Ben Hilfenhaus, Morkel, Bravo, Jadeja and Ashwin.

The fact that Chennai beat Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets at home should also give the visitors some confidence.

The slight drizzle last night has increased the humidity which might also help the visitors. (PTI)

Teams:

RR (Probable): Rahul Dravid (c), Ajinkya Rahane, Shane Watson, Owais Shah, Ashok Menaria, Ankeet Chavan, Johan Botha, Stuart Binny, Dishant Yagnik (wk), Shaun Tait, Siddharth Trivedi.

CSK (Probable): Faf du Plessis, Murali Vijay, Suresh Raina, S Badrinath, MS Dhoni (c&wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Albie Morkel, Shadab Jakati, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ben Hilfenhaus.

IPL 2012 Preview: Delhi Daredevils Vs Deccan Chargers, 10 May 2012

Posted: 09 May 2012 04:30 PM PDT

Delhi Daredevils (DD) would look to reclaim the top spot when they take on a floundering Deccan Chargers (DC) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) clash on Thursday.

Daredevils had surrendered the top spot to Kolkata Knight Riders when they lost the home match by six wickets.

With 16 points from 11 matches, they are placed second and have virtually sealed a play-off berth, while Chargers are out of reckoning with just five points from 12 matches.

A win would serve the visitors well as they face tough rivals ahead in Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings, who are desperate to come out of mid-table logjam and be in play-off contention.

There is little doubt that Daredevils are the odds-on favourites but they need to guard against complacency as their batting and bowling both looked ordinary against KKR and for the first time, their middle-order was put to test and it failed miserably.

Their foreign recruit Ross Taylor has not fired as yet and in the absence of star English cricketer Kevin Pietersen, who has gone back to England for national duty, the defeat has certainly acted as a wake-up call for Virender Sehwag’s boys.

Taylor, by his own admission is out of form having managed only 107 runs from eight matches, and the Daredevils management may be tempted to pitchfork West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell in the thick of things.

Not only Russell is a capable seamer, he is also a very handy batsman. The rest of the team selects itself.

Daredevils have depth in batting as despite Pietersen not part of it now, the outfit has been bolstered by the arrival of another match-winner in David Warner.

The Daredevils are no doubt a better side with formidable batting line-up and a balanced bowling attack while Chargers have relied a bit more on individual performances from the Australian Cameron White and South African pacer Dale Steyn.

Lack of consistency combined with inability to soak pressure has been the case for Deccan from the start of the league. They created chances for themselves many a times but stumbled near the finish line.

The numbers are heavily stacked against the Chargers and it would be a difficult proposition for them to make a match out of it, when they take the field against Sehwag and Co. at the Rajiv Gandhi International cricket stadium.

The team failed to chase down a target of 170 runs against Kings XI Punjab yesterday and could only manage 145 runs in their alloted 20 overs.

It would surely take a great effort from them to disturb the DD’s momentum. The only way they can hope to pull it off tomorrow, is by playing out of their skins, and hope luck too plays its part.

Skipper Sangakkara will again have to shoulder the bulk of the responsibility while Jean-Paul Duminy and Shikhar Dhawan would look to carry the momentum.

The absence of more game-changers in the team is supposed to be costing the team dearly.

Deccan lack firepower in its bowling department as barring Steyn, the Hyderabad team does not have quality bowlers in their ranks.

Their domestic pacers in Veer Pratap Singh, A Ashish Reddy and Anand Rajan have also failed to provide the South African speedster good support from the other end.

The spin department also lacks sting with leg-spinner Amit Mishra resembling a pale shadow of himself.
