Rajasthan Royals Vs Deccan Chargers Post Match Presentation IPL 2012

Posted: 18 May 2012 12:28 PM PDT

Steyn: I have enjoyed the tournament a lot. It would have been better if we would have won some more matches. I try and keep it as simple as possible. It came out nicely today. My job is to run in and strike early that’s why I play for the Chargers and that’s why I play for South Africa. Sometimes your figures don’t come out as you want it to but then you just need to try and take wickets.

Dale Steyn is the Man of the Match

Dravid: I think we didn’t play good cricket. We needed about 150 on that wicket. We should have assessed this track a little better. We are disappointed, the guys in the dressing room are really upset. I don’t look at the stats too much at the toss, each wicket is different and you need to play to your strenghts and what is working for your team. It is not about the toss, we just didn’t bat well enough. We will just have to try and play some good cricket now, win the last game and take that confidence into the next season.

White: I hope the jinx has gone for the next game and for the next season. It was a good game and it was a nice surprise that we won. We bowled pretty well, we would have won the toss and chosen to bat as well. When you have only won two games in the entire tournament then you are always nervous until the end. RCB is up next and Gayle has been in terrific form so we will have to come up with some plans.

Pakistan’s new T20 captain Mohammad Hafeez calls for trust

Posted: 18 May 2012 04:44 AM PDT

Pakistan’s newly appointed Twenty20 captain Mohammad Hafeez on Thursday called for trust and a good environment in the dressing room ahead of next month’s tour of Sri Lanka.

The talented team often makes headlines over rows between the players and a volatile dressing room atmosphere, but Hafeez said he would continue the good example set by Misbah-ul Haq.

Misbah, dropped from the Twenty20 squad but retained as one-day and Test captain for the Sri Lankan tour, is credited with uniting the team after a 2010 spot-fixing sandal saw Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer banned and jailed.

“It’s not a team of any individual and we all trust each other and I think the way Misbah has settled the atmosphere of the team — you will see that this tour will be very positive,” Hafeez told reporters.

Hafeez also faces the challenge of leading a team which has two former captains in Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi, often difficult for the incumbent skipper.

“What I have discussed with T20 players is that I am trying to give them full confidence, unfortunately after one or two performances we start thinking that a player does not deserve to have a place in the team,” he said.

“I will try to make a good environment for them in the dressing room and give players, like Malik and Khalid (Latif) trust.”

Pakistan opens the tour with a Twenty20 in Hambantota on June 1. The two Twenty20 matches will be followed by five one-day and three Tests.

Hafeez agreed his team were short on Twenty20 practice, noting that players were missing out on the ongoing Indian Premier League.

Pakistani players featured in the inaugural IPL in 2008 but have since not been allowed to play as relations between the arch-rivals nosedived after the 2008 Mumbai attacks, which India blamed on militants based across the border.

Hafeez said the training camp meant players were well drilled.

“The whole team is focused, practice sessions are going well and we are trying to bring ourselves into an international mould and we will try to bring in good results on the tour,” he said.

Virat Kohli fined for slow over rate: IPL 2012

Posted: 18 May 2012 04:38 AM PDT

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli has been fined USD 20,000 for his team’s slow over-rate during the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Delhi Daredevils at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi on Thursday night.

“Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has been fined after the team maintained a slow over rate during last night’s DLF IPL match against Delhi Daredevils in Delhi,” IPL said in a statement.

At the end of the match, Royal Challengers Bangalore were assessed to be two overs behind the required rate after allowances were taken into consideration.

Since it was his first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Kohli was fined USD 20,000. (PTI)

IPL 2012 Preview: Rajasthan Royals Vs Deccan Chargers, 18 May 2012

Posted: 17 May 2012 06:30 PM PDT

Keen to consolidate their chances of making the playoffs, Rajasthan Royals will be eyeing nothing less than a victory when they take on a lowly Deccan Chargers in their Indian Premier League match at Hyderabad on Friday.

With 14 points from equal number of games (with seven wins and as many losses), Rajasthan Royals still have an outside chance of making the playoff stage if they can record big wins in their remaining two matches against the Chargers on Friday and Mumbai Indians on Sunday.

The Chargers, lying at the bottom of points table with 11 loses in 14 matches so far, are already out of the contention (for the playoffs) and they can only hope to improve their performance when they take on the Royals at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium at Uppal on Friday.

Rajasthan Royals, who beat Pune Warriors in their last match by 45 runs, will certainly start as favourties.

With improved performance during their match against Pune, the Royals are expected to go all out against the Deccan Chargers to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Royals have played good cricket against fancied rivals but have been guilty of frittering away opportunities.

On the batting front, the Royals will bank heavily on their inspirational leader, Rahul Dravid and his opening partner Ajinkya Rahane, who has been in prolific form so far in this season, besides Australians Brad Hodge and Shane Watson and English batsman Owais Shah.

Rahane has scored 541 runs so far in this season, while Dravid has 418 in his kitty, followed by Shah with 284 and Hodge with 245 runs.

As far as bowling is concerned, medium pacers Siddharth Trivedi and Amit Singh have been amongst wickets for Royals with 11 and 10, respectively, while Brad Hogg has also claimed 10 and Ankeet Chavan has taken seven.

The Royals also have the likes of off-spinners Johan Botha and Ajit Chandila, who can attack the opposition.

On the other hand, nothing seems to have materialised for the Chargers, who despite posing big totals in the current season have only ended up on the losing side, especially in the last game where they lost despite scoring 190 odd runs against Kings XI Punjab.

For the Chargers, in-form top order batsman Shikhar Dhawan has been the highest run getter with 538 runs, while Australian Cameron White, captain Kumar Sangakkara, Parthiv Patel, J P Duminy and Daniel Harris, too have contributed with good knocks.

However that hasn’t helped the Chargers much in reviving their fortunes.

They would be playing for pride and hoping to notch up a victory on Friday to salvage some prestige.

But for that their bowling department need to fire in unison with the likes South African speedster Dale Steyn (13 wickets) and led-spinner Amit Mishra (9 wickets) coming good. (PTI)

Teams:

DC (probable): Shikhar Dhawan, Parthiv Patel (wk), Kumar Sangakkara (c), Cameron White, Daniel Christian, Abhishek Jhunjhunwala, A Ashish Reddy, Amit Mishra, Dale Steyn, Manpreet Gony, TP Sudhindra

RR (probable): Rahul Dravid(c), Ajinkya Rahane, Shane Watson, Brad Hodge, Ashok Menaria, Stuart Binny, Johan Botha, Shreevats Goswami(wk), Ajit Chandila, Siddharth Trivedi, Shaun Tait

Time: 20:00 local time (14:30 GMT)
