Morne Morkel replaces van der Merwe while Rohrer replaces Botha.’

Finch: ‘We have put ourselves in a hard position and we have to pull up our socks. I hope that we can execute the plans well. We have moved on from the previous game. Gambhir: ‘We will bowl. The wicket will not change that much, we will look to restrict them. It was a good win in our last match, we will look to continue playing well. I am not thinking about last season, this is a new season. Chennai always have a good batting track, hopefully, we will perform well today. Brendon McCullum gets his first match and Shami Ahmed is in for Ladda.’

Dhoni: ‘I wanted to bat first, we do not trust the wicket too much. It is always about playing good cricket, this is just another game for us. It will be slightly more hot and humid considering it is a 4 PM start. Nannes is fit and will play, we have another change.’

Toss: Kolkata have won the toss and elected to bat

Gautam Gambhir: ‘We will bat first. We hope to put some scoreboard pressure on them and try and defend that. The guys in form for us will have to carry on and take the side past the line. We play to win everytime and hopefully we will pull off today. It’s a big day, people have come in numbers on Sachin’s birthday. For us Iqbal Abdulla comes in for Laxmi Shukla and that covers all our angles.’

Rohit Sharma is Mumbai’s new skipper: ‘We would have batted as well. Hopefully we can restrict them to a decent total and chase it down. Unfortunately, Ricky Ponting is sitting out today. It was a very tough call. I am looking forward to this new challenge. Hopefully we can pull off a win. We don’t want to put too much pressure on ourselves, this is an important game. Yuzvendra Chahal and Pragyan Ojha are in for Munaf Patel and Jasprit Bumrah.’

Teams:

Toss: Pune have won the toss and elected to field

Finch: ‘We are going to have a bowl, backing our batsmen to chase down the target. We have a few changes. I can’t remember all those changes. Mitchell Marsh replaces Ajantha Mendis, Ali Murtaza replaces Rahul Sharma and there is another change ( I can’t remember it). The wicket should stay pretty much the same. The guys have been very supportive, captaincy has been fun and a challenge. We have played some good cricket, unfortunately we have been at the wrong end of the result in a few games. We can take a few positives from our losses. The Punjab wicket was beautiful, hopefully it will be the same here as well.’

Kohli: ‘We were looking to field as well, we will look to get a good score, anything around 160 will be a good score. We are playing an unchanged side. There was rain last evening as well. Hopefully, there will be no rain today. The pitch looks good, will play pretty well throughout the day. We do no see this ground as a fortress, we will take it as some home advantage.’

Rajasthan Royals wins toss, opts to bat vs Chennai Super Kings – IPL 2013 #CSKvsRR #CSK #RR

Posted: 22 Apr 2013 07:05 AM PDT

Toss: Rajasthan have won the toss and elected to bat

Dravid: ‘We have to play as a unit. We are that kind of a team. We need to work as a team and that’s what we’re aiming to do. We’re struggling away from home but we’re confident. Last time, they won off the last ball so we’re feeling good. The pitch does slow up a bit, but it looks better than some of the wickets I’ve seen here in the past. But it’s good to put runs on the board. It’s a great challenge to play against Chennai, they are a champion side. Cooper and Rahul Shukla are in. Tait and Sreesanth are out.’

Dhoni: ‘We spoke about this in the last presentation ceremony, after the 4th season we have struggled at home for consistency. The pitch has been relaid and we haven’t been able to play freely. More than the batting slot, it’s the number of overs that determines the batting order for us. We were looking to bat first. It looks like a different surface but we’re hoping that it stays the same for the whole game. Albie Morkel is injured, Jason Holder is in.’

Teams:
Chennai (Playing XI): Murali Vijay, Michael Hussey, Suresh Raina, S Badrinath, MS Dhoni(w/c), Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Jason Holder, Chris Morris, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohit Mahipal Sharma

Rajasthan (Playing XI): Shane Watson, Ajinkya Rahane, Rahul Dravid(c), Brad Hodge, Stuart Binny, Kevon Cooper, Dishant Yagnik(w), James Faulkner, Ajit Chandila, Siddharth Trivedi, Rahul Shukla

Sehwag: ‘The winds of change blew towards Delhi. We were focused on staying fit and practising hard. The decision to open with Mahela clicked and it showed that he led from the front. If I bat well, I try to control my innings. Sir Viv Richards told me to overcome my fear and believe in myself.’

Sehwag is the Man of the Match

Mahela: ‘Great effort by the boys. Showed a lot of character after losing 6 games. Viru batted really well, it was good to watch from the non striker’s end. We have to try and control what we can control. We cannot think about what the media is saying and that’s what we did. We can still improve. 160 was a good score but we needed a good start and we got that. Both of us enjoyed batting on that wicket.’

Ponting: ‘I’m not sure what happened! 161 was going to be a pretty competitive total. But we didn’t have any answers, especially in the first 6 overs. They got the momentum and they ran away with it. We thought if we could take a couple of wickets after the first 6 overs, we could come back but their opening stand was too good. We’ve lost 2 in a row but we know that things can change quickly. The ball didn’t swing, Johnson’s weapon is to get the ball in to the right hander. So that’s why we left him out. We also wanted Smith to open’

Toss: Mumbai have won the toss and elected to bat

Ponting: ‘Captaincy has been a lot of fun. Would have been nice to have a couple of more wins. We have to try and bounce back today. We need to have consistency in our batting performances. In T20, it’s only 2 or 3 guys who score runs in a game. Hopefully a few more of us can score runs. It looks like a good surface and it should skid on nicely. The crowd is cheering because Sachin is going to be batting, it has nothing to do with me. Dwayne Smith, Munaf Patel and Bumrah are in. Johnson, Ojha and Rishi Dhawan are out.’

Mahela: ‘The franchise had already planned to get him down to India. He’s fantastic with the boys. We’ve had only 24 hours with him but he has contributed a lot and hopefully that’ll help us. We’ve dug ourselves into a hole and it’s up to us to come out of it. We’ve played some good cricket, so there is some confidence in the group. The pitch might slow down a bit later. The wickets have been pretty good here. Jeevan Mendis has got a bit of a sting in his finger. Morne Morkel is out. Juneja has been left out too. van der Merwe, Andre Russell and Venugopal Rao come in.’

Teams:
Delhi (Playing XI): David Warner, Virender Sehwag, Mahela Jayawardene(c), Venugopal Rao, Kedar Jadhav(w), Roelof van der Merwe, Irfan Pathan, Andre Russell, Ajit Agarkar, Shahbaz Nadeem, Umesh Yadav

Ravindra Jadeja: ‘It was a good game for us. It was a crucial game for us. I was just trying to see the ball and hit it, as there was no time to think at that time. Wicket was pretty slow – it was good for spinners and the ball wasn’t coming on to the bat. I tried to bowl slow in the air and it helped. I played 3 good shots for my team and I was just backing myself. I like ‘baappu’ more than ‘Sir’. But I’m enjoying the ‘Sir’ tag – it’s a good time-pass for our team. (laughs)

Sir is the Man of the Match. Don’t ask me who he is…

Dhoni: ‘We didn’t really bat well. We’ll have to be more consistent in this area. Our bowlers did a good job and our fielding was good. The run outs brought us back in the game. Delaying the spinners helped us as it wasn’t easy to rotate strike in the middle overs. That’s an area where we have to plan as batsmen (on whom to attack). You have to take risks accordingly and plan. Maybe that involves a bit of risk but the successful batsmen are just of 2 types – the ones who don’t think anything and the ones who plan. Ravindra Jadeja is ‘Sir’, we all know that! (Laughs). He’s doing well, not only here but also in the Indian team. We want him to be comfortable in the dressing room. He’s enjoying the fact that we’re calling him ‘Sir’. But he thinks it’s the ‘Sir’ in English but it’s actually the Sir in Hindi (meaning head).’

Gambhir: ‘There was some school boy errors. When you win the toss and when you’re 46/1, you have to get more than 119. The pitch gets better under lights. We saw that in the last game as well. A lot of credit to the bowlers for restricting Chennai as much as they could. We had to put pressure on the batsmen, there is no point taking the game till the last over, so we had to bowl Sunil and Senanayake as early as we could. Our batting line up has to pull up our socks. It’s high time we get better with the bat’

Royal Challengers Bangalore wins toss, opts to field vs Rajasthan Royals – IPL 2013 #RR #RCB

Posted: 20 Apr 2013 07:30 AM PDT

Toss: Bangalore have won the toss and elected to field

Kohli: ‘Do not ask me about my health. If we have too many close games, I will not be in good shape. First day, we did not see each other. On the second day, we had a practice session and we noted down some few points. When we get three days off, one does not know what to do but it was a welcome rest. The dew will play a big factor in the second innings and that is why we will bowl. RP Singh replaces Rahul, Dilshan replaces Andrew McDonald, Syed Mohammad is not in the team. It is pretty hard to defend in Bangalore and we will look to stifle the Rajasthan batsmen.’

Dravid: ‘I am thrilled with the start that Rajasthan have made. It is a little weird walking into the opposition room. I have played at this ground since I was a kid and I love the support of the fans. We had a fantastic time here last year. We have good depth in the team and we have covered up for injuries. We have got the right composition for any surface. We do not focus on the kind of tags the people give us but we are only focusing on performances. It looks like a good wicket and we would have bowled first. Shaun Tait replaces Kevon Cooper while Sreesanth replaces Ankeet Chavan. We have to know the basics well.’

Toss: Kolkata have won the toss and elected to bat

Gambhir: ‘We’ve played 2 games here and we’ve won both so hope to win one more. I still feel we haven’t been playing smart cricket, we have to be consistent. When you’re in good form you have to carry on and take the team through. We’ve discussed that as a team. We don’t want to get into a situation where we’re desperate. It’s a beautiful track – a lot of people think it’s a turning track but according to me it’s a good track for batting. The weather has been like this for the last couple of days. We have 2 quality spinners in the side, we hope to put runs on board and put pressure with 2 spinners.’

Dhoni: ‘I’m quite bad with stats, but one thing I remember is that whenever we play here, the weather is always like this! Nannes is still unfit. We played well last game so we are unchanged. We would have batted first as well. It’s important to improve and we have improved with every game. Overall it’s a good sign for us. Nannes’ injury was a blessing in disguise because picking the foreigners is a tough job – we have a lot of quality foreign players!’

Kings XI Punjab wins toss, opts to bat vs Sunrisers Hyderabad – IPL 2013 #SRHvsKXIP

Toss: Punjab have won the toss and elected to bat

Gilchrist: ‘Steyn is the best fast bowler in the world. I’m dwindling but I’m up to the challenge. We fought really well against Kolkata – anything is possible in this format. We haven’t clicked in the batting unit, we haven’t made a fifty. The pitch looks hard and a bit patchy in some areas. It may be a low scoring game. No particular reason to bat first. Not sure what the pitch will do so just want to get some runs on the board. We’ve fought well but we have been inconsistent. Mascarenhas and Valthaty come in. ‘

White: ‘Amazing game last match, very happy to get the 2 points in the end. One individual can win a game in a T20, that’s thing about the format. Punjab have some mighty players in their team, so we cannot take them lightly. I wanted to bat first as well. I’ll call it an interesting wicket, let’s see how it plays. Parthiv Patel is out and Akshath Reddy is in.’

Toss: Chennai have won the toss and elected to bat

Dhoni: ‘Last game was not really good for us. We didn’t play intelligent cricket. But it’s important to forget that game. We still have to learn from that game though. After the 4th season where they relaid the wicket at Chepauk, we haven’t been consistent at home. It’s important to back your strength, we have prepared well. It’s important to play the king of cricket that we know. If we make too many changes, we will be at the receiving end. Looks like a good wicket, we have to put runs on the board. Nannes is injured, Hussey returns. Anirudha makes way for Mohit Sharma.’

Mahela: ‘The camp is positive. We’ve played some good cricket but we haven’t analysed the crucial situations well, hopefully we can do that today. We have to finish the matches and get points on board. Still 11 games for us and we have to be positive. Chennai is a quality team, it’s a great challenge for us and we have to play with freedom. 160-165 will be a par score. A bit of dew around, the last game our bowlers struggled with the dew. Rohrer and Nehra miss out, Agarkar and Jeevan Mendis come in.’

Teams:
Delhi (Playing XI): Virender Sehwag, David Warner, Mahela Jayawardene(c), Manprit Juneja, Kedar Jadhav(w), Irfan Pathan, Jeevan Mendis, Morne Morkel, Ajit Agarkar, Shahbaz Nadeem, Umesh Yadav

Chennai (Playing XI): Murali Vijay, Michael Hussey, Suresh Raina, S Badrinath, Dwayne Bravo, MS Dhoni(w/c), Albie Morkel, Chris Morris, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohit Mahipal Sharma

Rajasthan Royals wins toss, opts to bat vs Mumbai Indians – IPL 2013 #RR #MI #RRvsMI

Toss: Rajasthan have won the toss and elected to bat

Dravid: ‘It is a big game in terms of the names present. Mumbai have a galaxy of stars and it is a big challenge. We have gotten some good home support. We have the bowling attack to suit the conditions. We have got some good players and there is a good conversation about the opposition players in the dressing room. The pitch is a bit dry and we would look to put runs on the board. Ankeet Chavan replaces Sreesanth. Dishant Yagnik replaces Sanju Samson.’

Ponting: ‘We got off to a good start in the nice game. We have to lay a good foundation so that it becomes easy for the rest of the guys. The grass is a bit dry and there will be some movement in the air. Things have gone pretty much to plan and it is a good challenge to lead the side. We were looking to bowl first as the pitch will give some assistance. The big players have played well so far. We do not have any changes in the team.’

Teams:
Rajasthan (Playing XI): Shane Watson, Ajinkya Rahane, Rahul Dravid(c), Brad Hodge, Kevon Cooper, Stuart Binny, Ankeet Chavan, Dishant Yagnik(w), James Faulkner, Ajit Chandila, Siddharth Trivedi

Mumbai (Playing XI): Ricky Ponting(c), Sachin Tendulkar, Dinesh Karthik(w), Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Ambati Rayudu, Harbhajan Singh, Rishi Dhawan, Mitchell Johnson, Pragyan Ojha, Lasith Malinga

Mishra: ‘I always just go for wickets. That’s what White told me as well. I kept going for wickets and got a hat-trick! It’s a great feeling, we’re working together and supporting each other. I’m not trying any variations, I was just keeping it simple.’

Mishra is the Man of the Match

White: ‘I’m not sure what happened there, actually! Mishra did his stuff there at the end. We have a couple of good leg spinners, it’s nice to have bowlers like that and not ask Steyn and Ishant to get all the wickets.’

Angelo Mathews: ‘We had the game till the last 5 overs. Bhuvneshwar was outstanding. We did everything right till the last 5 and choked again. We’ve got to be consistent from here. It’s very disappointing to be honest. We just gave it away. We have 9 more games to go, we have to do better.’

Toss: Pune have won the toss and elected to field

Angelo: ‘I couldn’t travel to Chennai, but it was good to see the boys doing well there. Ross misses out unfortunately, but that’s how it goes. The pitch might play a bit slow but it’s better to bat second as we are unsure about it.’

White: ‘Sangakkara won’t be available in Chennai so it allows us a chance to give de Kock a few games. I’m not sure what the pitch will do but happy to be batting first. We’re playing 2 leg spinners in the team.’
