Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Bangalore in thrilling Super Over – IPL 2013 #SRHvsRCB #SRH #RCB

Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Bangalore in thrilling Super Over - IPL 2013Sunrisers Hyderabad tonight pulled off a nail-biting win over Royal Challengers Bangalore via the Super Over in their Pepsi Indian Premier League (IPL) match here.

With both teams tied at 130 after the end of Hyderabad`s innings, the result was decided with the help of a Super Over wherein both sides got six balls each.

Craig White smashed Vinay Kumar for two sixes, one each over long-on and long-off, to help Hyderabad score 20 runs in the Super Over. In reply, Bangalore could manage only 15 against a fired-up Dale Steyn, despite Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli hitting a six and a four each.

Earlier, needing seven runs in the last over with four wickets in hand, Hyderabad could not cross the finishing line despite Man-of-the-Match Hanuma Vihari (44 not out) standing firm in the middle.

Chasing a competitive total, Hyderabad lost Parthiv Patel early to Moises Henriques, the Australian having the opener caught behind for just two.

Henriques soon struck again, this time removing Cameron White who lobbed a catch at mid-off.

Veteran off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan spinner was introduced in the ninth over and the Sri Lankan struck immediately, disturbing Akshat Reddy`s off-stump.

Reddy`s dismissal for 25 brought to the middle Hyderabad`s best batsman, skipper Kumar Sangakkara.

At the halfway stage, Hyderabad were 56 for three, needing another 75 to record their second straight win. RCB were similarly placed at this stage of their innings.

But the most important thing for Hyderabad was that they had Sagakkara at the crease. Along with Hanuma Vihari, the left-hander added 33 runs for the fourth wicket, before Jaydev Unadkat`s re-introduction into the attack did the trick for Bangalore. Unadkat induced Sangakkara to edge one that took off from a good length.

Thisara Perera smashed one back past the bowler first up but lack of discretion on his part show him throw away his wicket off a slower ball at a crucial juncture, with Hyderabad needing 33 off 25 balls.

Vinay then produced a brilliant work on the boundary, playing a big role in running out Amit Mishra.

Ashish Reddy brought the equation down to 19 off 14 by hitting Vinay for a six over long-on. Vihari hit Vinay for a four to leave the home side within 14 from the last two overs.

Earlier, pacer Ishant Sharma led the way with three wickets as Hyderabad bowlers combined to restrict Bangalore to 130 for eight.

Opting to bat after winning the toss, Bangalore could never get the momentum going their way after losing Gayle in only the second over of the match.

Skipper Kohli (46) and Moises Henriques (44) were the two substantial contributors with the bat.

Bangalore were dealt a body blow early on as young off-break bowler Hanuma Vihari had the dangerous Gayle caught behind with his first delivery of the match.

Tillakaratne Dilshan failed for the second time in a row, as the Sri Lankan was cleaned up by Ishant for just five runs.

Another young batsman in the RCB line-up, Karan Nair, too, did not last long as he was trapped in front by leg-spinner Amit Mishra, which left the visitors in some spot of bother at 42 for three in the eighth over. For the record, Mishra is the second highest wicket-taker in IPL.

There was a partnership between Kohli and Australian all-rounder Henriques that steadied the ship after the three blows with not much on the board.

Just when things were beginning to look better for Bangalore, medium pacer A Ashish Reddy struck an important blow, having Kohli caught off his own bowling.

The RCB skipper had added 43 runs for the fourth wicket with Henriques before his attempted drive through the leg side got a thin edge for Reddy to dive forward a complete a good catch. Kohli hit five fours and a six during his 44-ball knock.

Mayan Agarwal was sent back by Dale Steyn before Thisara Perera dismissed K B Arun Karthik. Henriques’ battling innings ended when Ishant had him caught by Cameron White.

For today’s match, Sunrisers replaced D B Ravi Teja with Ankit Sharma, while RCB brought in Henriques in place of Daniel Christian.

Vihari: ‘I’m very happy. In the last 5 years I’ve been watching it on TV. It’s a special feeling to win this game. It was a low total. I thought if I could bat through it would be easy for us. It means a lot to me. I’ve been playing cricket since I was 9 and this is my biggest moment so far.’

Hanuma Vihari is the Man of the Match.

Sangakkara: ‘All credit to the team. We know that we had to play tight cricket and stay together. Thanks to the crowd for coming down. I just told Steyn to bowl yorkers and hoped for the best. I liked the way White and Perera handled ths super over. Vihari did splendidly too playing in his first season. I think the groundsman does his best to give us a good wicket. Today there were Murali and Murali Kartik so the idea was for me to bowl more in the middle overs. The key is to really fight and scrap. We have some good young cricketers.’

Kohli: ‘It was a great fightback after the start they had got. 27 from 14, we should have pulled the game off from there. The bowlers are coming out on top. It’s a good thing to see. Two last ball fininshes. I hope there are no more for this season. We should have been more aware in the last two overs. Saving the twos. We should have done better there.’

Kings XI Punjab crush Pune Warriors by 8 wickets – IPL 2013 #PWIvsKXIP #PWI #KXIP

Kings XI Punjab crush Pune Warriors by 8 wickets - IPL 2013Kings XI Punjab produced a clinical performance to thrash Pune Warriors by eight wickets and start their Pepsi Indian Premier League campaign in an emphatic fashion on Sunday.

Angelo Mathews` decision to bat first backfired badly as the home team batsmen produced another inept show posting a meagre 99 for nine in their 20 overs.

The chase was a cakewalk for Kings XI Punjab as the young IPL debutant Manan Vohra sent the Pune bowlers on a leatherhunt, finishing the lopsided contest in only 12.2 overs.

Manan (43 no, 7×4, 1×6) and Mandeep Singh (31) added 58 runs, including 21 in one Ashoke Dinda over, as the Preity Zinta co-owned team finished the match in a jiffy.

The match ended in a dramatic fashion when David Hussey`s flick shot was acrobatically caught at short mid-wicket by T Suman off Mitchell Marsh`s bowling. But TV replays showed that it was a no-ball and thus KXIP won the match.

It was a match in which KXIP outclassed their opponents in every department of the game.

The sheer dominance of the KXIP pacers was evident as the highest partnership for Pune was 25 and the top scorer was Abhishek Nayar with 25.

For KXIP, Azhar Mahmood and Praveen Kumar got two wickets apiece, giving away 19 and 31 runs respectively.

The slide started in the very first over as Manish Pandey (0), who has done nothing in the past two seasons to merit a place in the starting XI, failed yet again as he played on off the last delivery of Praveen Kumar`s first over.

T20 specialist T Suman (6) hit a boundary before holing out at mid-off, with veteran Azhar Mahmood being the bowler.

The Pune batsmen found it difficult to score on a wicket that had spongy bouncy, but credit must go to KXIP bowlers as they were consistent in bowling to a particular line.

Marlon Samuels (3) was run-out as Piyush Chawla’s immaculate throw landed on top of the stumps and skipper Adam Gilchrist whipped off the bails as the diving Jamaican failed to make his ground. The problems only compounded for Pune from there on.

If that wasn’t enough, Chawla ended Pune’s ‘Million Dollar’ recruit Robin Uthappa’s misery as a faster one castled the Karnataka batsman, who scratched around for 23 balls to make only 19.

At 33 for four, a lot depended on skipper Mathews, who started well with a boundary, but got out to the best delivery of the innings from Parvinder Awana. Mathews was forced to edge one that had a bit of extra bounce as the ball moved a shade after landing on the good length spot.

At the halfway stage, Warriors were 38 for five with hopes of posting a decent total vanished.

There was another misery in store for Warriors as Ross Taylor found out to his amazement. He slog-swept a delivery from Praveen and Gurkeerat Mann, fielding in the deep fine leg, took a magnificent one-handed catch diving to his right.

The chase was an easy as Adam Gilchrist welcomed Bhuvneshwar Kumar with a couple of boundaries and a big six to set the ball rolling. Although the former Aussie glovesman holed out for only 15, Manan and Mandeep upped the ante with a flurry of boundaries.

The pitch was a good one and with the ball coming onto the bat nicely, it proved to be a stroll in the park for the Punjab batsmen. The short balls were pulled and the length deliveries were driven with ferocity.

When Mandeep was finally bowled by state-mate Rahul Sharma for 31 off 26 balls with four boundaries, the match was already in KXIP’s pocket.

Manan Vohra: ‘I was very nervous before the start. When I went in, it felt good. The captain told me to go out and enjoy. Wicket got better with time.’

Manan Vohra is the Man of the Match

Adam Gilchrist: ‘It is a good start. Everything went right from the opening over. The intensity remained till the last ball when David Hussey tried to finish it in that over. Gurukeerat’s catch was brilliant. I loved that intent from the youngsters. We wanted to knock it off quickly, run rate will be important at the end of the tournament. Punjab have never won their opening match, that vodoo has been dealt with today.’

Angelo Mathews: ‘Definitely disappointed. It can’t get any worse. We need to look at our intent in the first 6 overs. Things can only get better from here. Pitch played a bit up and down, slow as well. Not easy to play your shots. We got 14 more games, need to keep our heads high.’

Toss: Bangalore have won the toss and elected to bat

Kohli: ‘We will bat first, looks like a good batting wicket. Just one change for us, Moises Henriques comes in for Dan Christian. It is always nice to get a win under the belt. I was backing both Vinay and Jaidev to deliver for us. We need more application in the batting department. Gayle is perfectly fine and we hope he will continue to bat well for us.’

Sangakkara: I would have also batted. Just one change, Ravi Teja has been left out and … ( he forgets the name of the replacement). We know they are a good side. We will have to fight well. The way we came back in the last match and the spirit we showed was outstanding. There is no special plans for Gayle, we just need to get him as soon as possible. Proud to play in Hyderabad.

Sunrisers Hyderbad had a dream start in the IPL Season 6 when they beat Pune in the low scoring opening match. Hyderabad will now take on Virat Kohli’s Royal Challenger Bangalore in the 7th match of the IPL 2013. Bangalore too had an exciting first encounter with a thrilling win against Mumbai. Riding high on Chris Gayle’s 92, Bangalore posted a healthy total despite the middle order failing to make an impact. Gayle has been the biggest reason of RCB’s success in the last two seasons. Hyderabad seem to be the underdogs with their batting being the weak link. Hyderabad are surely missing the services of Shikhar Dhawan and JP Duminy due to injury and Akshath Reddy and Ravi Teja are still finding their feet. Parthiv Patel will be once again key in the opening overs along with skipper Kumar Sangakkara. Thisara Perera with his useful contribution against Pune proved his signing noteworthy. Cameron White will hope to find form on Sunday in order to provide stability to the middle order.

Pune Warriors vs Kings XI Punjab Live Streams IPL 2013

Pune after a horrible loss in the first game will be playing their second game against Kings XI Punjab at the home ground. This will be the first game for Punjab and they will be looking for a positive start in this year tournament. Pune Warriors has some big names like Yuvraj Singh, Marlon Samules and Ross Taylor in its ranks but still failed to chase down a low target of 126 runs in the first game. Pune need to work on the batting in the second game. For Punjab, Adam Gilchrist will lead the side for them and Punjab have signed up some new players Luke Pomersbach and Manpreet Gony for this season. Gilchrist apart, the likes of Azhar Mahmood, Dimitri Mascarenhas, David Hussey and Ryan Harris bring plenty of experience to the side. Pune’s record against Punjab is very encouraging. Of four ties so far over the last two seasons, they have won three and lost one. However, one can not go by stats in this format as over and over again the underdogs have put the skids under the favourites.

Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Royal Challengers Bangalore – Preview – IPL 2013 #SRHvsRCB #SRH #RCB

Posted: 06 Apr 2013 02:30 PM PDT

After a relatively easy outing in their Pepsi Indian Premier opener, debutants Sunrisers Hyderabad face a sterner test as they take on a star-studded Royal Challengers Bangalore here on Sunday.

Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Royal Challengers Bangalore - Preview - IPL 2013

Both Sunrisers and RCB are high on confidence going into the match after tasting victories in their tournament openers.

While Hyderabad, who are back in the IPL with a new name, defeated last year`s laggards Pune Warriors by 22 runs in a low-scoring match last night, the Bangalore side eked out a two-run win over mighty Mumbai Indians in their first game.

Resold and slightly repackaged, the Hyderabad outfit, however, has some thinking to do ahead of tomorrow`s match as there lies several question marks over its batting department.

The untimely injuries to Shikhar Dhawan, who knocked up the fastest Test century on debut against Australia last month, and J P Duminy had jolted the outfit`s batting unit.

And it was quite evidently visible against Pune Warriors yesterday as the Sunrisers could only manage 126 for six.

Captain Kumar Sangakkara, Parthiv Patel, Cameron White, Thisara Perera all got starts but failed to convert them into big scores.

But come tomorrow, the Sunrisers will have to put up a more determined batting effort if they desire to carry on their winning run as in Chris Gayle, RCB possesses a batsman who can demolish any bowling attack on his day.

If batting is a weak link, bowling is Sunrisers strong point and they showcased a small demonstration of their strength by defending a small target against Pune Warriors.

The Sunrisers have a varied bowling attack. In world number one Dale Steyn, they have an ace up their sleeve who picked up three wickets against Pune last night.

Steyn was ably supported by lanky Ishant Sharma, Perera and leg-spinner Amit Mishra, who bagged the man-of-the-match award for his 3-19 spell.

RCB, on other hand, would fancy their chances against Hyderabad.

In Gayle, skipper Virat Kohli, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Daniel Christian and A B de Villiers Bangalore has a potent batting unit.

Riding on Gayle`s superb 58-ball 92-run knock, RCB evaded mediocrity to post a challenging total on the board against Mumbai Indians.

But their over-dependence on Gayle has been a nightmare for the team in the past and the likes of Kohli, Dilshan and de Villiers will be hoping to share the West Indian`s burden.

Gayle batted with one leg against Mumbai Indians after picking up a slight knee injury following a collision with Harbhajan Singh, but he is likely to be fit to play tomorrow.

Even though R Vinay Kumar saved the day for RCB against Mumbai Indians the other day with a three-wicket haul, bowling remains a major concern for the Bangalore outfit.

RCB has been hit hard by Zaheer Khan`s calf injury but Caribbean speedster Ravi Rampaul along with senior pros like Muttiah Muralitharan, Daniel Vettori and Murali Karthik, are expected to bolster their attack.

Pune Warriors vs Kings XI Punjab - Preview - IPL 2013After a disappointing 22-run loss in a low scoring game against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their campaign opener, Pune Warriors would be hoping for a better batting performance when they take on Kings XI Punjab in their second Pepsi IPL match here on Sunday.

The Angelo Mathews-led side looked like they would chase down the Hyderabad franchise`s paltry 126 runs but lost the plot after a steady start. They would be keen to make amends of their last night`s defeat with a win tomorrow.

India senior player Yuvraj Singh, who has got the added responsibility to shoulder batting responsibility in the absence of Australian captain Michael Clarke, would be eager to produce a better show after he scored only two runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The home side would also rely on Yuvraj`s left-arm spin as the 31-year-old picked up a wicket in his two overs while giving away only eight runs.

The bowling attack looked impressive with a three-pronged pace attack comprising Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ashok Dinda and skipper Angelo Matthews though the team opted to open the attack with spinner Marlon Samuels in Hyderabad last night.

On the other hand, Kings XI Punjab will look to start their campaign on a winning note.

Kings XI Punjab have never won their opening game in the previous five editions of the IPL and the Adam Gilchrist-led side would be keen to change it this year.

The team would, however, will miss Australian batsman, Shaun Marsh, who suffered a hamstring injury against England Lions in February. He is expected to join the Kings XI squad in the second half of April.

Even without Marsh, Kings XI batting department still looks competitive with Gilchrist, fellow Australians David Hussey and Luke Pomersbach in their ranks. Also the presence of all-rounders Azhar Mahmood and Dimitri Mascarenhas will bolster the middle-order.

Australian Ryan Harris, newly-bought Manpreet Gony and Praveen Kumar form a decent pace attack, while the experienced Piyush Chawla is the other proven bowler in the line-up.
