Mishra (MoM): ‘I am very happy with the way I bowled today. The wicket was on the slower side and it suited my style of bowling. We were short by a few runs, so I decided to bowl in an aggressive fashion and go for the wickets.’

Sangakkara: ‘We decided to fight and scrap for every run. Our general attitude was outstanding. I thought we were a few runs short but managed to make it up in the middle. We can keep improving and play a lot better than this. Nice to get off to a winning start as a new franchise.’

Mathews: ‘We started off brilliantly. The bowler’s bowled very well to keep them down to 126. I thought we needed to go hard in the first 6 overs, we need to learn from that. We still have 15 games in hand, I have the confidence that we will fight back.’

Injured Virender Sehwag to miss game against Rajasthan Royals #RR #DD

Posted: 05 Apr 2013 10:15 AM PDT

Injured Virender Sehwag to miss game against Rajasthan RoyalsDelhi Daredevils opener David Warner has confirmed that Virender Sehwag will also sit out on Saturday’s Indian Premier League match against Rajasthan Royals as he is yet to fully recover from back spasm.

“He (Sehwag) is not playing tomorrow as he has not fully recovered. He is a lot better than what was before although his movement has been a bit sluggish,” Warner told reporters on the eve of Daredevils’ first home match at Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi.

Sehwag missed IPL’s opening game against the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, which the hosts won by 6 wickets on Wednesday. The 34-year-old dropped in at Kotla on Friday but did not join his team-mates at the nets. He had an extensive session on the physio’s table carrying out his rehabilitation process.

Warner also said that despite the absence of big players like Sehwag, Kevin Pietersen and Jesse Ryder, every member of the team was capable of taking up responsibility to win matches for the team.

Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings – Preview – IPL 2013 #MIvsCSK #MI #CSK

Smarting from the narrow defeat in their opening IPL tie, Mumbai Indians will have their task cut out when they lock horns with two-time winners Chennai Super Kings here on Saturday at a venue, which has been guarded like a fortress by the home team.

Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings Preview IPL 2013

Mumbai came close to beating Royal Challengers Bangalore last night, before going down by two runs in a thrilling last-ball finish.

And the Ricky Ponting-led side now faces another stern test against a Chennai Super Kings, who arguably have got the best record in the cash-rich Twenty20 league, having won it twice in 2010 and 2011.

Going into the much-anticipated clash, Mumbai also must be well aware of the fact that the hosts have an impeccable record at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Chennai wouldn`t have the services of Albie Morkel, who is to play for the Titans in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge final in South Africa.

Also missing the action in the first few games would be Faf du Plessis as the big-hitting batsman is down with an injury.

With the Sri Lankan players not allowed to play in Chennai, the home side will miss the services of Nuwan Kulasekara and Akila Dananjaya.

Chennai have one of the most settled combinations among the nine teams.

Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has led from the front over the past few seasons. Then there is the left-handed Suresh Raina in the middle-order and opener Murali Vijay, whose confidence must have been boosted after a prolific Test series against Australia.

Among the foreigners, Michael Hussey and Dwayne Bravo will be the two men to watch out for. Not to forget the presence of Subramaniam Badrinath who can defend as well use the 'long handle' to good effect.

As far as CSK`s bowling is concerned, they have in their ranks India`s new spin twins in Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. The spinners are coming off a fantastic Test series against Australia.

Jadeja would fit in as the all-rounder at number seven, while Ashwin is no bunny with the bat either. There is also left-arm spinner Shadab Jakati.

For the two fast-bowling slots, there would be competition between the foreign recruits – Ben Hilfenhaus, Dirk Nannes, Jason Holder and Ben Laughlin.

Hilfenhaus will be expected to make the cut as he did well for them last season. Nannes merits the pacer`s slot ahead of the others given his speciality for the format.

Coming back to the Mumbai Indians, they will be eager to set things right after a botched-up chase let the side down at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

For the visitors to affect a turnaround, greats like Sachin Tendulkar and Ponting will be expected to guide the side by example.

Both Tendulkar and Ponting, arguably the two greatest batsmen in modern cricket, are highly respected by the best of bowlers no matter where they are playing. The fierce competitors that they are both will look to get good scores.

While MI has the all-round ability to test any side, they will need to get their combination right. They might be tempted to send the big-hitting West Indian all-rounder Kieron Pollard up the order.

Delhi Daredevils vs Rajasthan Royals – Preview – IPL 2013 #DD #RR #DDvsRR

Posted: 05 Apr 2013 04:09 AM PDT

After a disappointing loss in the season-opener, the Delhi Daredevils would be hoping for a better batting performance when they take on perennial underdogs, Rajasthan Royals, in the fourth match of the IPL, here on Saturday.

Delhi Daredevils vs Rajasthan Royals Preview IPL 2013

A brittle middle-order, coupled with the absence of impact players Kevin Pietersen and Jesse Ryder due to injuries, has become a cause for concern for the Mahela Jayawardene-led side.

The hosts would be keeping their fingers crossed for the return of dashing Indian opener Virender Sehwag, who missed the last match due back spasms, to reinforce their batting line-up.

Dubbed as a top-heavy side, Delhi`s middle-order failed to capitalise on a brisk start provided by Jayawardene and explosive Aussie batsman David Warner on a slow Eden Gardens` track against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Delhi would be keen to make amends for the crushing six-wicket defeat on Wednesday.

The decision to try rookie batsman Manprit Juneja did not bear fruits for the Daredevils, as he looked uneasy in his brief stay at the wicket, and the side would be better served by the experience of Venugopal Rao in the middle order.

Despite the unavailability of last year`s Purple-Cap holder, Morne Morkel, for the second consecutive game, Delhi`s bowling attack looks settled unit.

It features a three-pronged pace attack comprising Irfan Pathan, Ashish Nehra and Umesh Yadav, besides left-arm tweaker Shahbaz Nadeem.

Morkel is currently playing for his domestic side in South Africa and will join the squad from their third match, against the Mumbai Indians on April 8.

Out of the 10 meetings in the brief IPL history, the Daredevils have had the upper-hand against their Jaipur-based rivals, with six wins and four losses.

On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals, who have looked awry since their inaugural edition feat, will look to kickstart their campaign on an positive note.

Except for the 2008 edition, in which the Royals emerged surprise winners under the maverick leadership of the legendary Shane Warne, the Shilpa-Shetty co-owned team has always finished in the bottom-half of the table.

For a side which has often found itself in a knockout situation in the latter part of the long and strenuous tournament, the Royals would be aiming to build initial momentum in their pursuit of finishing in the top four.

This sixth edition would be the last hurrah for former India captain Rahul Dravid and he would want to finish on a high as the skipper of a relatively inexperienced side.

The Royals would be bolstered by the presence of explosive Aussie all-rounder Shane Watson at the top of the order. The team, however, would miss his services in the first match as he is yet to join.

After his much-awaited Test debut ended tamely, young Indian batsmen, Ajinkya Rahane, would be raring to prove his mettle once again in a tournament that brought him to the limelight.

He would be hoping to replicate his sensational outing of the last season, in which he scored 560 runs including a remarkable century in 16 matches.

In the absence of Watson, Dravid is likely to partner Rahane in the opening slot and would be hoping to play the sheet-anchor role while expecting seasoned campaigners like Brad Hodge and Owais Shah to maintain a healthy run-rate throughout the innings.

Though, the Royals boast of a sturdy batch of foreign player, the lingering concern lies over the performances of domestic signings at critical junctures.

The team management would be expecting the likes of Ashok Menaria, Dishant Yagnik and Stuart Binny to stand out from the herd and be counted.

With the signing of accomplished West Indian speedster Fidel Edwards, the Royals seem to have found the alternative to a sporadic Shaun Tait.

A fit-again S Sreesanth will boost the Royals bowling attack in company of the wily Sidharth Trivedi.

Young Aussie all-rounder James Faulkner, who recently bagged a central contract with his national side, is likely to make his debut for the Royals in Watson`s absence.

The Royals have a raw spin attack consisting of last season`s astonishing hat-trick stealer Ajit Chandela, Mumbai`s Ankeet Chavan and promising under-19 spinner Harmeet Singh besides West Indian leg-spinner Sunil Badree who is making his IPL debut.

Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Pune Warriors Live Streams IPL 2013

Sunrisers Hyderabad, a new and refreshed version of old Deccan Chargers will begin their campaign with the first game against Pune Warriors. Hyderabad did won the first IPL season but since then the performance hasn’t been great. Sun TV recently bought the Hyderabad team from Deccan Chronicles. They have retained their key players including the skipper Kumar Sangakkara. Sunrisers will be missing one of their key player Shikhar Dhawan, who is unavailable for few matches due to injury. Hyderabad has strong batting line-up led by Sangakkara, South Africa`s JP Duminy, Sri Lanka`s Thisara Perera and Australian Twenty20 specialist Cameron White along with India`s Parthiv Patel. For Pune Warriors, Michael Clarke backing out of IPL due to injury is a huge blow for them. But at the same time there are positives for the team too. Yuvraj Singh will make a comeback after missing the IPL for 2 years. Besides Yuvi, Angelo Mathews, Ajantha Mendis and New Zealand`s Ross Taylor are also their to provide strength to the Pune Warriors batting order. Chris Gayle innings made the difference, says Ricky Ponting #RCB #MI

Posted: 04 Apr 2013 10:48 PM PDT

Chris Gayle innings made the difference, says Ricky PontingMumbai Indians captain Ricky Ponting said Chris Gayle`s hard-hitting unbeaten knock of 92 made all the difference in their “topsy-turvy” two-run loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore in an IPL match here.

“All our bowlers tried to bowl at him in different areas, bowl at his toes and wide outside the off-stump. (But) being as strong as he is if anybody gets half the bat on, it does go for six,” Ponting said.

“Though he was limping most of his innings, he made the difference in the game. There is no doubt about it,” he told reporters in a post-match press conference here.

Asked whether it was a wrong decision not to send the hard-hitting Kieron Pollard up the order, Ponting said the team would talk about it and make adjustments if needed for the next game.

The former Australian captain said the failure of first-choice number five batsman Amabti Rayudu cost the match for Mumbai.

Ponting said his team did a good job with the ball but should have chased the target down.

“We did not get going at the start and it was a topsy-turvy game,” he said.

“Mumbai need to analyse their game and set right the wrongs in coming games,” Ponting said.

Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Pune Warriors India – Match 3 – Preview – IPL 2013 #SRH #PWI

Posted: 04 Apr 2013 02:00 PM PDT

Hyderabad: Resold and slightly repackaged, Hyderabad are back in the IPL with a new name and a rather easy opening awaits them when they take on last season`s laggards Pune Warriors here on Friday.

Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Pune Warriors Preview IPL 2013

Missing from the line-up of the Sunrisers Hyderabad, as they are called now, would be star batsman Shikhar Dhawan, who knocked up the fastest Test century on debut against Australia last month.

The star batsman is nursing a hand injury and is likely to miss the first few matches of the event.

Despite this, the Sunrisers would be quite a handful for the Warriors. The team, which retained Kumar Sangakkara as captain despite having a different owner after Deccan Chronicle Group pulled out due to its financial woes.

Indian veterans Kris Srikkanth and VVS Laxman, both mentors for Sunrisers, have joined hands with Australia`s Tom Moody (chief coach) and former Pakistan paceman Waqar Younis (bowling coach) to form a strong team of support staff for the Sunrisers.

In the batting department, Sangakkara, South Africa`s JP Duminy, Sri Lanka`s Thisara Perera and Australian Twenty20 specialist Cameron White along with India`s Parthiv Patel make the team highly competitive.

They have an ace up their sleeves when it comes to bowling as South African tearaway pacer Dale Steyn would lead the attack for them. Steyn is currently ranked number one in the ICC rankings.

Ishant Sharma and experienced spinners like Amit Mishra and Nathan McCullum are the other proven bowlers in the line-up.

Pune Warriors, on the other hand, suffered a setback when Australian Michael Clarke was ruled out of the entire IPL season due to a recurring back injury.

But the return of Yuvraj Singh and the presence of Sri Lanka`s Angelo Mathews, Ajantha Mendis and New Zealand`s Ross Taylor has bolstered the team.

The Warriors, coached by former South African great Allan Donald, also feature some promising domestic stars such as all-rounder like Abhishek Nayar and Parvez Rasool, the first player from Jammu and Kashmir to have been signed by an IPL franchise.

Nayar was an expensive buy at USD 675,000 for the Pune team.

Probable XIs:
Sunrisers Hyderabad: 1 Kumar Sangakkara (capt/wk), 2 Parthiv Patel, 3 Cameron White, 4 Akshat Reddy, 5 Ravi Teja, 6 Hanuma Vihari, 7 Thisara Perera/Darren Sammy, 8 Amit Mishra, 9 Sudeep Tyagi, 10 Dale Steyn, 11 Ishant Sharma

Pune Warriors India: 1 Manish Pandey, 2 Robin Uthappa (wk), 3 Yuvraj Singh, 4 Mitchell Marsh, 5 Abhishek Nayar, 6 Angelo Mathews (capt), 7 Steve Smith, 8 Parvez Rasool, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Ajantha Mendis, 11 Ashok Dinda
