Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Kolkata Knight Riders – Preview – IPL 2013 #RCB #KKR

Posted: 10 Apr 2013 01:30 PM PDT

Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Kolkata Knight Riders Preview IPL 2013On a high after extracting revenge against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore will look to continue their winning streak when they take on Kolkata Knight Riders in their IPL match on Thursday.

Led by the energetic Virat Kohli, RCB trounced Hyderabad by 19 runs on Monday and the RCB skipper will be hoping that his men will not go haywire after making a good start, which was their story until the last IPL.

On the other hand, after losing to Rajasthan Royals in their previous encounter, KKR will look for a reversal of when they play their third match against the southern powerhouse.

RCB were impressive against Hyderabad and Kohli and R P Singh starred with bat and bowl respectively.

RCB were bolstered by RP Singh`s three for 27, after Kohli notched up a blazing unbeaten 93 off 47 balls. He struck 11 boundaries and four sixes in an innings that helped Bangalore register a win with 14 balls to spare.

RCB will be hoping to get a rollicking start from Gayle, who failed to make an impact in the last two games. AB de Villiers will hope to fire after scoring 15 vital runs in a 49-run partnership with his skipper against Hyderabad.

The rest of the batting too has solid names such as Tillakaratne Dilshan, Andrew McDonald, Mayank Agarwal and Moises Henriques apart from Arun Karthik and Vinay Kumar.

In the absence of RCB`s bowling spearhead Zaheer Khan, Vinay Kumar has led the pack admirably. Muttiah Muralitharan and Murali Karthik would like to carry their magic of prudence and frugality into the next game.

KKR, in contrast, have failed to capitalise on their good start having lost their last match to Rajasthan by 19 runs chasing a rather easy target of 145.

In their encounter with the RCB, KKR will look for a better batting performance and build partnerships to bounce back.

Jacques Kallis, Gautam Gambhir and Manoj Tiwary would be expected to deliver after a rather unimpressive start.

Gambhir will look to give KKR a solid start alongside Manvinder Bisla, the star of last year`s IPL final. A good start would help Kallis, Tiwary, Yusuf Pathan and Laxmi Ratan Shukla break the shackles.

Eoin Morgan will be desperate to carry his form into the next match against RCB, after scripting a fighting innings against RR in the last match. The Englishman was the only successful batsman for KKR, scoring 51 off 38 balls.

Brett Lee and Sunil Naraine, along with either Shami Ahmed or Laxmipathy Balaji, will try to work some magic and freeze top RCB batsmen.

Teams (from):

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Virat Kohli (captain), Abhimanyu Mithun, Abhinav Mukund, Andrew McDonald, Chateshwar Pujara, Christopher Barnwell, Daniel Vettori, Harshal Patel, KP Appanna, Moises Henriques, Chris Gayle, Tilkaratne Dilshan, Mayank Agarwal, Daniel Christian, Karun Nair, Arun Karthik, J Unadkat, Vinay Kumar, Muttiah Muralitharan, Murali Kartik, Pankaj Singh and P Prasanth.

Kolkata Knight Riders: Gautam Gambhir (captain), Brad Haddin, Brett Lee, Debabrata Das, Eoin Morgan, Iqbal Abdulla, Jacques Kallis, James Pattinson, Laxmipathy Balaji, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Manoj Tiwary, Manvinder Bisla, Shami Ahmed, Pradeep Sangwan, Rajat Bhatia, Ryan McLaren, Ryan ten Doeschate, Sachitra Senanayake, Sarabjit Ladda, Sunil Narine and Yusuf Pathan.

Hussey, Bravo shines as Chennai beat Kings XI Punjab by 10 wickets – IPL 2013 #KXIP #CSK

Hussey, Bravo shines as Chennai beat Kings XI Punjab by 10 wickets - IPL 2013Opener Michael Hussey slammed a blistering 54-ball 86 as Chennai Super Kings produced an aggressive brand of cricket to roll over Kings XI Punjab by 10 wickets in their Pepsi Indian Premier League (IPL) match here on Wednesday night.

Chasing 139 for victory after opting to field, Chennai rode on Hussey`s knock and Murali Vijay`s 50 off as many balls to thump the hosts at the PCA Stadium, and open their account in this edition of the cash-rich T20 league.

The two-time former champions had lost their opening match to Mumbai Indians.
Steady to start with, Hussey upped the ante as the innings progressed, eventually leading his side to a commanding victory with 16 balls to spare.

There were a flurry of fours and sixes in the second half of the innings as Chennai raced to the target with ease.

While he was at his best towards the end, Hussey did not miss out on the opportunities to spank the loose balls for runs initially too.

Vijay was not at his fluent best but gave Hussey the support he needed at the other end. Unlike Punjab, Chennai knew they had the depth and experience in their batting, paving the way for the opening combo to milk runs instead of going hammer and tongs.

At the end of the end of the 10th over, Chennai were 65 for no loss, needing another 74 runs.

Punjab had their opportunities to dismiss the Chennai openers but Piyush Chawla dropped Hussey off his own bowling before Adam Gilchrist missed a stumping against Vijay in the eighth over.

Hussey capitalised on the life he got, cutting medium pacer Parvinder Awana for two fours through the point region as Chennai upped the scoring rate.

In the process, the two recorded the best first-wicket partnership for Chennai against Punjab in IPL, before taking it a notch higher to post the best partnership for any wicket on this ground.

Kings XI Punjab vs Chennai Super Kings Post Match Presentation – IPL 2013 #KXIPvsCSK

Michael Hussey: ‘The outfield is really fast here and the wicket was very good, I really enjoyed batting with Vijay, he supported me very well. He was doing all the talking and calming me down and in the end we pulled off a wonderful win. Gilly’s catch was very crucial, he could have made a huge difference to the total. Against Mumbai we didn’t play well as a batting unit and it is very pleasing that we won this emphatically.’

Michael Hussey is the man of the match.

MS Dhoni: ‘The bowlers bowled really well. We all knew with the grass around, early wickets was key and they got them and was well backed up by Jadeja and Bravo. Hussey and Vijay were outstanding, they respected the bowling at the start and then launched the attack after getting themselves in. We didn’t bat well against Mumbai but here we were really good. Yes, a tricky situation when Faf is back, Hussey is wonderful at the top and we’ll see our options. I was happy with the way Vijay batted, he started slowly but made it count in the end. Overall a satisfying effort.’

Adam Gilchrist: ‘Chennai completely outplayed us in all departments. We were decent with the bat at the start but suddenly lost our way after the loss of David Hussey. This is certainly not a 138 wicket. Chennai bowlers bowled really well and we ended 40 short of what was a par score on this surface. We will have to do well next time around’

Toss: Chennai have won the toss and elected to field

MS Dhoni: ‘We will bowl first. The outfield is fast here, hopefully we will restrict them to a decent score and chase it down. The wicket has a good amount of grass on it, it will assist the fast bowlers. The grass will also keep the wicket hard and the ball will also come on to the bat nicely. We would like to play together as a unit and win the game. The bowlers did well in the first game, the batsmen have to pull their socks up and deliver quality goods today. We have just made one change, Chris Morris comes in for Ben Laughlin.’

Adam Gilchrist: ‘We would like to get off to a positive start here at home. The crowds are amazing, the ground is in great shape, hopefully we can pull the game off and send them home happy. The players are looking forward to the game and we will put our best. We go in with an unchaged squad.’

Kings XI Punjab vs Chennai Super Kings Live streams IPL 2013

Punjab after superb win the first game against the Pune Warriors will face off two times IPL champions Chennai Super Kings at the home ground. Chennai started off the season with 9 run loss against Mumbai Indians. Chennai batting didn’t clicked in the last match and except skipper Dhoni who was looking in prime form none other supported him. Mike Hussey, Murali Vijay and Suresh Raina were out cheaply. They need to score runs at the top to help the bowlers do their job well. Punjab on the other hand won the opening game for the first time in the tournament. They will looking to carry forward the momentum and give Chennai a tough fight. Skipper Adam Gilchrist was looking in good form even at the age of 40. Allrounders Azhar Mahmood and David Hussey are two match-winners in the Punjab line-up that otherwise lacks big names and can give a tough fight to Chennai.

Kings XI Punjab vs Chennai Super Kings – Preview – IPL 2013 #KXIPvsCSK

Posted: 10 Apr 2013 12:29 AM PDT

Coming off a thumping away win over Pune Warriors, Kings XI Punjab will face a stern test when they take on a wounded Chennai Super Kings in their Indian Premier League match, here on Wednesday.

Kings XI Punjab vs Chennai Super Kings - Preview - IPL 2013

Having lost to Mumbai Indians in their opening game, the Super Kings would look to make amends quickly ahead of their match on Wednesday. While a relatively inexperienced Kings XI side would go in as underdogs in this contest despite a resounding eight-wicket win over lacklustre Pune Warriors.

The Gilchrist-led side would aim for a similar show in the second match of the double header at the PCA stadium here.

On the bowling front, the hosts would be pleased with a disciplined performance from the seamers in the last match.

Pacer Praveen Kumar, who recently returned from an injury lay off followed by a ban, looked in good rhythm as he picked up two key wickets including that of dangerous Ross Taylor.

The Punjab team has a settled bowling combination led by Australian pacer Ryan Harris. Tidy performances from Parwinder Awana and leggie Piyush Chawla would also comfort the Preity Zinta co-owned side.

Punjab would be relying on former Pakistani allrounder and T20-journeyman, Azhar Mahmood, to come good with both bat and bowl while expecting seasoned T20 campaigner David Hussey to provide late flourish to the side.

The Kings XI batsmen, in their small run chase, looked imposing. Young Mandeep Singh would like to build upon his reputation of an enforcer and a case for selection in the national side.

On his IPL debut, Manan Vohra scored blazing 43 off just 28 deliveries and looked at ease playing at this level.

To pass the star-studded CSK test, the Darren Lehmann-coached side would be aware that they will have to labour hard at home. Though, still early days in the cash-rich league, the side would know the importance of fending off giants when they are still looking to settle down.

CSK, on the other hand, would be looking to put behind the disappointment of their nine-run loss.

Even though the match went down to the last over courtesy heroics from skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni (26-ball 51), CSK coach, Stephen Fleming, had expressed his displeasure over poor shot selection from some of his batsmen against MI.

Dhoni`s fine form is surely an ominous sign for the opponents. And despite the loss, CSK look a far more formidable side and would certainly start as favourites.

The two-time IPL champions, however, would be wary of the fact that KXIP had trampled them on both occasions in the last season.

CSK would be hoping for a blazing start from Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay while expecting Dwayne Bravo and Suresh Raina to come good in the middle order.

The team management would also want useful contributions from S Badrinath and Ravindra Jadeja lower down the order.

The Super Kings would be relieved after Albie Morkel, who twisted his ankle while bowling in the finals of the domestic Twenty 20 competition in South Africa, was cleared after precautionary scans. The 31-year-old has arrived in India yesterday. However, he is unlikely to take the field tomorrow.

Australian pacer Ben Laughlin and Ankit Rajpoot had a reasonable outing in the first match of their IPL career, with both bagging a wicket each.
