Dinesh Karthik, Rohit Sharma crush Delhi Daredevils – IPL 2013 #MIvsDD #MI #DD

Dinesh Karthik, Rohit Sharma crush Delhi Daredevils - IPL 2013Dinesh Karthik and Rohit Sharma`s blazing half centuries set the platform for Mumbai Indians to claim a 44-run win over Delhi Daredevils in their Pepsi Indian Premier League match, here on Tuesday.

Deciding to bat, Karthik`s 48-ball 86 and Sharma`s unbeaten 50-ball 74 powered Mumbai Indians to an imposing 209 for five before the hosts produced a disciplined bowling effort to restrict Delhi Daredevils to 165 for nine in their alloted 20 overs at the Wankhede Stadium.

Australian opener David Warner waged a lonely battle for Delhi with a 37-ball 61 but none of the other batsmen showed intent to grind it out and bind time at the wicket.

The pressure of mounting run rate weighed heavily on Delhi batsmen as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals.

Defending the target, Mumbai bowlers kept a tight leash over Delhi`s scoring rate to earn their second successive win in the tournament after losing their first match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Mitchell Johnson, Kieron Pollard and Pragyan Ojha picked up two wickets apiece while Lasith Malinga and Harbhajan Singh too accounted for a wicket each for Mumbai.

Today`s result meant that Delhi slumped to their third successive defeat with the absence of key overseas players and an injured Virender Sehwag hurting the team`s chances badly.

Delhi were off to a poor start as opener Unmukt Chand yet again failed to deliver the goods for the visitors and went for a first-ball duck for the second time in this IPL season.

Mumbai skipper Ricky Ponting took a stunning catch with one hand while diving full length to his right at extra cover to dismiss Unmukt off Harbhajan Singh.

Delhi skipper Mahela Jayawardena too fell cheaply as he was caught by wicketkeeper Karthik off Mitchell Johnson for three, leaving Delhi stuttering at 13 for two inside three overs.

Even though wickets kept tumbling at the other end, Warner was hardly bothered as he went about his business in style and kept the run rate well in check with his occassional strikes.

Delhi reached their 50 in the seventh over with Warner hitting left-arm spinner Ojha for a huge six over deep mid-wicket boundary. Warner kept on punishing the Mumbai bowlers as he hit a six and a four off Pollard in the 10th over to bring up his fifty.

Warner found an ably ally in Manprit Juneja (49) as both kept the scoreboard ticking along at a fair pace.

Both forged an 82-run partnership for the third wicket in just 48 deliveries before Johnson returned back for his second spell to dismiss Warner, who was looking solid during his innings of 61 off 37 balls, laced with five fours and four sixes.

The departure of Warner spelt doom for Delhi franchise as they lost three wickets in quick succession.

Jeevan Mendis (0) was caught by Pollard off his own bowling while Irfan Pathan was caught by Johnson off Ojha at deep midwicket for 10. Kedhar Jadhav’s departure further compunded the misery for Delhi as they were left tottering at 132 for six in 16 overs.

Delhi kept on losing wickets at regular intervals as the visitors succumbed under the pressure of mounting run rate.

Juneja’s 40-ball 49 was decorated with four fours and he was run out by Rishi Dhawan in the 18th over.

Earlier, Karthik and Sharma treated the opposition bowlers with disdain as both helped Mumbai recover from two early jolts.

Karthik continued his rich vein of form as he hit 14 fours and two sixes in his aggressive knock while Sharma too played his role to perfection.

Sharma’s chanceless knock was laced with 4 fours and five towering hits beyond the boundary line, which included three sixes off the last over bowled by pacer Ashish Nehra.

Ambati Rayudu too played a little cameo, hitting an eight-ball 24 laced with two fours and an equal number of sixes.

Mumbai got off to a worst possible start as the two batting stalwarts of the game, Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar, departed within a few balls of each other with just one run on board.

Pathan first got rid of Ponting (0) on the final ball of the first over before Mumbai got off the mark. In the next over, Tendulkar got run out, giving Delhi edge in the early overs.

Karthik and Sharma then joined hands in the middle and both of them started the repair job.

After watching on few deliveries, Karthik upped his tempo and exploded in the sixth over, hitting Nehra for one six and two fours to accumulate 16 runs off the over. He smashed pacer Umesh Yadav for three fours in his second over to bring up his fifty in just 30 balls with the help of nine fours and one six.

Karthik went about his business in style and forged a 132-run stand with Sharma as the duo sent the bowlers on a leather hunt.

South African pacer, Morne Morkel broke the stand when he had Karthik caught at extra cover by Mendis.

Next man-in, Pollard did not last long as he departed for 13, caught by Shahbaz Nadeem at extra cover off Nehra.

Rayudu then joined forces with Sharma and accumulated 22 runs of Pathan’s last over and innings’ 19th before being caught by Nehra off his own bowling. Sharma then hit three sixes off Nehra’s final four deliveries to post the highest IPL total at the stadium.

Karthik: ‘It was a wonderful wicket to bat on and I decided to play my shots. I did not try too many things out of the book. It was the ideal T20 wicket. Rohit Sharma batted superbly and it was great batting with him. It is important to be consistent.’

Dinesh Karthik is the MoM for his knock of 86.

Ricky Ponting: ‘I actually lost my footing and I slipped. Luckily, I stuck the hand out and I took the catch. It took a few years to actually have that scenario (Hugging Harbhajan Singh). Dinesh Karthik batted superbly. We have spoken about playing with freedom and both Rohit and Dinesh did that superbly. I and Sachin need to get some runs at the top. We bowled well with the new ball. It is important to create a cauldron like environment at the Wankhede.’

Mahela Jayawardene: ‘It was a tough total. Warner and Juneja batted well. The wicket was pretty good and 180 was a par score. We needed to attack but we could not bowl with discipline. Rohit Sharma and Karthik batted well. Mumbai kept wickets in hand and we have to learn from our mistakes. We just need to back our abilities and we have to clinically finish games.’

IPL 2013 – Brilliant Kohli guides RCB to emphatic win over Sunrisers Hyderabad #RCBvsSRH #RCB

Brilliant Kohli guides RCB to emphatic win over Sunrisers HyderabadVirat Kohli led from the front with a breathtaking unbeaten 93 as Royal Challengers Bangalore made short work of a challenging target from Sunrisers Hyderabad winning by seven wickets in a Pepsi Indian Premier League match, here on Tuesday.

Chasing a commendable target of 162, Kohli made a mockery of Sunrisers bowlers as he singlehandedly guided his team to victory smashing 11 four and four sixes off 47 balls as they knocked off the runs with 14 balls remaining.

It was a sweet revenge for RCB who had lost to Sunrisers in a ‘Super Over’ two days back.

The match swung decisively in RCB’s favour in the 16th over bowled by Amit Mishra after ‘Strategic Time-Out’ where Kohli smashed the bulky leggie for 21 runs. This included to straight sixes. In the next Thisara Perera over he got another 16 runs to close in on the match and couple of boundaries from Ishant sealed the issue.

He had a partnership of 66 with Moises Henriques (7) for the fourth wicket but it was Kohli who was in complete control as he paced his innings in brilliant fashion.

The ploy to open the bowling with Hanuma Vihari failed miserably this time as Agarwal hit him for a four and six to get him out of the attack. The local boy then pulled Ishant for a six over deep fine leg to get 15 runs from the over.

But the youngster paid the price for being over aggressive as he mistimed a pull-shot off a back of length delivery from Perera which ballooned up for skipper Sangakkara to take an easy catch.

Ishant however got the big wicket of Chris Gayle (13) as he bowled one that moved a shade after pitching and the Jamaican nicked it to Parthiv Patel behind the stumps.

Kohli’s first scoring stroke was six over mid-wicket off Perera. Along with AB de Villiers, he added 49 runs but the South African failed to clear the fence off a rank long hop from leggie Cameron White as gave a simple catch to Hanuma at deep mid-wicket fence.

Kohli, however played his free-flowing natural game to complete 50 off 31 balls as he punished the loose deliveries at will. He got an able partner in Moises Henriques who did nothing flashy as he quickly gave the strike back to his captain.

Earlier, Cameron White and Perera’s slambang approach during the final five overs saw Sunrisers Hyderabad reach a competitive 161 for six.

White and Perera added 80 runs in only 7.2 overs to take the new IPl franchise to a comfortable position. While White clobbered three fours and three sixes in his 34-ball-52, Perera hit four huge sixes and a four in his knock of 40 which came off only 24 balls.

The last six overs of the innings produced a whopping 77 runs as Sunrisers had scored only 84 in their first 14 overs.

The duo came together in the 11th over with the scoreboard reading 62 for three. They didn’t take risk initially but created a launchpad for a furious assault on the RCB bowlers.

The turning point was the 16th over of the innings bowled by Moises Henriques that yielded 18 runs. The two bowlers who came out unscathed from the Perera-White onslaught were veteran spinner Muttiah Muralitharan (1/23) and India discard Rudra Pratap Singh (3/27) who gave away only 50 runs in their 8 overs taking four wickets between them.

The bowler who went for maximum was Ranganath Vinay Kumar who gave away 43 in his four overs. Normally, considered as a safe bet in T20 matches, Vinay Kumar’s length deliveries were sent soaring into the stands by Perera.

The start wasn’t a good one for the home side as they lost Akshath Reddy (12) caught by Vinay Kumar at the edge of the circle at mid-off RP’s bowling.

Parthiv Patel (20) was sent back by Murali who foxed the left-hander with a doosra.

Sangakkara scored 23 off 24 balls before he was caught by Virat Kohli at cover when he tried to get a move on as Perera and White joined hands for a splendid partnership.

Kohli: ‘The guys can be proud about the way we played today. I told them not to feel too disappointed with the last result. We knew we could make a comeback. It is a proud feeling to do well in the Indian T20 League. We were very confident about chasing, the wicket gets better under the lights. 160 was a par score and we knew we could chase it down. We just want to concentrate on our game. I love playing in Bangalore, we get one of the loudest and biggest support here.’

Kohli is the MoM for his attractive 93

Sangakkara: ‘I thought Kohli was the difference between the two sides. We were probably 10-12 short at the end of our first 10 overs, but 160 was competitive. Both, Perera and White batted superbly well. Losses do happen in T20 cricket, we just need to regroup and concentrate on our second game.’

Toss: Mumbai have won the toss and elected to bat

Ricky Ponting: ‘We have some great support today from the crowd. We have not played well as of yet but we are slowly gaining momentum. The pitch has some grass and the pacers will get some good pace and bounce. We are going to bat first. Pollard was great and the energy in the field was awesome. We have to make full use of the home advantage. Rishi Dhawan replaces Dwayne Smith and Lasith Malinga replaces Munaf Patel.’

Mahela Jayawardene: ‘We have played some good cricket but some things did not go our way. We hope to rectify the mistakes. The middle order is a bit inexperienced. Morne Morkel is back and it gives us a big boost. It is a great wicket to bat on. It is a good toss to lose. We have some good pacers. 40 overs will not make much of a difference on this wicket. Jeevan Mendis comes in place of Johan Botha and Morne Morkel replaces Andre Russell.’ No Virender Sehwag still.

Delhi has horrible start on the IPL 2013 so far loosing both of their matches. Mahela Jayawardene and David Warner gave Delhi a good start in both the matches but the middle order has failed repeatedly. Virender Sehwag absence is also hurting the tea badly who are also missing Kevin Pietersen and Jesse Ryder. There is not news about Sehwag availability yet. One good news for Delhi si Morne Morkel has joined the squad which will definitely boost the bowling attack. Mumbai Indians have a mixed reaction so far first loosing the close game against Bangalore and then winning the game against Chennai. The opening pair of legends Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting haven’t been able to gave Mumbai an impressive start so far. Mumbai middle order too looked shaky. Denesh Karthik and Keiron Pollard looks to be in prime form and Lasith Malinga have joined the Mumbai Squad which will definitely strengthen their bowling attack now.

Bangalore will be looking for a revenge when they take on Hyderabad at the home ground. Sunrisers stunned the Bangalore with a superb performance when they beat Bangalore in s super over. Cameron White and Dale Steyn played a crucial role in the Sunrisers Hyderabad victory. Bangalore yet another showed without Chris Gayle they can’t win games. Hyderabad will look for a similar performance at the Bangalore as well. Virat Kohli and Moises Henriques were the only one who got Bangalore to respectable position when the opener Gayle failed to score. Bangalore need to think about their game plan. They can’t depend on Chris Gayle for every match. It will be Gayle vs Steyn again but other players need to back up them as well.
