India vs Australia Post Match Presentation Super 8 T20 World Cup 2012

Watson: ‘The last couple of games have been good. Batting is a little more satisfying. More so if it comes against a good opposition. It did rain and broke a little bit of rhythm. We had to bowl the last couple of overs with the outfield a bit wet as well.’

Shane Watson is the Man of the Match.

Bailey: ‘Fantastic performance from Warner and Watson. Our bowlers set it up for us. Patty(Cummins) was fantastic. There are not two better hitters than Watson and Warner. I’m still trying to work out the rankings a bit. It was a great game.’

Dhoni: ‘We need to analyse what really happened. I think the rain really took the game away from us. We got a good start but we lost a couple of wickets in the middle overs and we ended up probably 20 runs short. The rain came in at the right time. The wet ball is not easy to grip. That really cost us the game. I’m not taking credit from the Australians. They batted well. There was not a single spinner who said, the ball did not slip away from my hands. We should have got a little more runs. 140 was a bit less. Looking at the way they batted, maybe 180 was less too. It is important to see the mistakes we made as a team. We’ll try to get out of our system’

India after crushing England in there last game of the group stage will now play against Australia in the super eights. India played with five bowlers against England which proved a right decision and are likely to go with five bowlers again. Australia so far have played amazingly well with David Warner and Michael Hussey being in prime forms. India definitely need a game plan against them and this might be the first match when their middle order might be tested. This game will definitely test out bowling where India spinners will be tested over Australian pace attack.

Umar Akmal, Umar Gul help Pakistan beat South Africa in a thriller

Posted: 28 Sep 2012 08:27 AM PDT

Umar Gul cracked a stunning 17-ball 32 and Umar Akmal remained unbeaten on 43 to guide Pakistan to a narrow two-wicket win over South Africa in their low-scoring ICC World T20 Super Eights clash at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday.

Chasing a modest target off 134 to win, Pakistan scored 136 for eight from 19.4 overs.

Gul cracked three sixes and two boundaries to play a stunning knock of 32, which came from 17 balls.

Umar remained 43 not out off 41 balls, which included four boundaries and a six.

Pakistan suffered batting collapse in their chase, masterminded by Robin Peterson, who dismissed Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed in quick sucession to leave Pakistan at 31 for three from five overs, after Hafeez and Imran Nazir provided them a brisk start.

Hafeez cracked consecutive boundaries off Dale Steyn in the first over to set the tone.

Nazir too got into the groove as he picked up two boundaries off Morne Morkel in the next over of the innings to provide Pakistan a brisk start.

But their partnership was broken by Dale Steyn on the last delivery of his second over, when he had Nazir caught by Ab de Villiers for 14 off 11 balls.

Robin Peterson provided South Africa the second breakthrough when he had Hafeez stumped by de Villiers for 15, which came from nine balls.

Pakistan slipped further when Johan Botha got rid of Kamran Akmal, who scored one.

Earlier, a gritty knock of 48 by JP Duminy was the only bright spot for South Africa, as Pakistan resctriced them to 133 for six.

South Africa made a disastrous start in the match, losing the top order cheaply against a disciplined spin attack of the Asian side.

South Africa's star batsman Hashim Amla got a lifeline in the very first over of the innings when Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal missed a catch and a stumping chance off Raza Hasan.

But Amla's innings came to an end five balls later, when Yasir Arafat had him caught by Shoaib Malik in the second over, for eight.

South Africa suffered another jolt in the sixth over when Saeed Ajmal dismissed the dangerous Richard Levi for eight.

The African side was left reeling at 28 for three by Pakistan spinner Mohammad Hafeez, who got rid of Jacques Kallis for 12 in the seventh over to put his side on top.

Farhaan Behardien and JP Duminy then joined forces to provide some momentum to their side, but their resistance was ended by Hafeez, who had Behardien stumped by Akmal for 18.

Behardien and Duminy added 38 runs for the fourth wicket.

Duminy scored 48, which came off 38 balls, hitting two boundaries and as many sixes.

The left-handed batsmen added a further 44 runs for the fifth wicket with skipper AB de Villiers, which pushed South Africa past 100.

De Villiers scored a quick 25 with the help of two boundaries and a six off 18 balls. His innings ended when Pakistan pacer Umar Gul had him caught by Imran Nazir in the 18th over.

Earlier, South Africa captain AB de Villiers won the toss and elected to bat against Pakistan.

South Africa made one change in their side, bringing in all-rounder Robin Peterson in place of struggling Faf du Plessis.

Pakistan too made one change in their side, dropping left-arm seamer Sohail Tanvir to fit in Raza Hasan.

Bailey: ‘We have the same team. This wicket will be slower and lower. The spinners will play a big part. India have real depth in spin bowling and in their batting.’

Gul: ‘I would like to thank my coach and Saeed Aslam. When I walked out, we needed 14 runs per over. Umar Akmal adviced me to play my natural game and he just told me to stay on the crease. I like to play the flick shot.’

Umar Gul is the MoM for his knock of 32 off 17 balls. For once, he gets it for his batting and not bowling.

Hafeez: ‘The boys played good cricket. We played some poor shots but we played well as a team. Umar Akmal played a special knock. I knew that Gul hit the ball hard but I knew that he will do well for the team. Gul’s batting is a good sign for Pakistan. Raza Hasan was great and every bowler bowled well. South Africa played great wicket and in the end, we were lucky to get over the line.’

AB de Villiers: ‘It was a great game. We lost momentum in the last five overs. I am proud of the way the boys fought back from a poor position. The spinners bowled wonderfully. Captaincy-wise, I made some mistakes.’

The ” Gangnam Style” dance video is one of the most popular on YouTube. And it’s certainly caught on with West Indies all-rounder Chris Gayle at cricket’s World Twenty20.

The video, which has been viewed more than 292 million times on YouTube, has inspired Gayle to celebrate with the rodeo-style dance whenever he takes a wicket at the tournament.

He danced twice during the match against Ireland and then repeated the act on Thursday when he took the wicket of England’s Jonny Bairstow in his first over.

Gayle has promised his fans around the world that he will keep celebrating “Gangnam Style” as the World Twenty20 progresses.

West Indies defeated defending champion England by 15 runs in its opening Super Eights match in Group 1.

India are likely to play with five bowlers like they did in the last game against England. Australian top order batsman David Warner and Michael Hussey has been in superb form and the key players for Australia. India will definitely look to get them early. With harbhajan Singh back in form the match is getting so much exciting. Harbhajan and Ravichandran Ashwin will play a crucial role for India. But playing five bowlers will trouble Dhoni as now he have to drop either Yuvraj or Sehwag from the squad.
