James Anderson recalled in T20 squad for South Africa series

Posted: 07 Sep 2012 12:06 PM PDT

England pace bowler James Anderson has been called into his country’s squad for the Twenty20 series against South Africa as cover for Steven Finn.

Anderson has not played for England in the shortest form of the game since his appearance against South Africa in a match at Centurion in November 2009.

The 30-year-old is not part of the England squad for the ICC World Twenty20 tournament which starts in Sri Lanka later this month.

But Finn missed the final one-day international against the Proteas in Nottingham on Wednesday after being hampered by a stiff back and that convinced the selectors to draft in Anderson.

The England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed the news of Anderson’s call-up in a statement: “James Anderson has been called into the squad for the T20 series against South Africa as cover for Steven Finn who has a stiff back.”

England face South Africa in three Twenty20 Internationals, the first is at Durham on Saturday, the second at Old Trafford on Monday and the third at Edgbaston on Wednesday. (AFP)

Toss: Pakistan have won the toss and elected to bat

Hafeez: We will bat first. The pitch looks a bit different and we want to put some runs on the board. We have an unchanged team. The bowling unit is performing well. 140 plus is a good score on this track.

Bailey: This pitch will not change much. We have made three changes. The batting line-up remains the same. Mitchell Starc, Dan Christian and Brad Hogg are in the team. We want to test our team composition for Sri Lanka. A win will be the perfect birthday gift.

Preview: Pakistan vs Australia 2nd T20 Dubai 2012

Posted: 06 Sep 2012 09:34 PM PDT

Australia and Pakistan will face each other again in the second Twenty20 Match on Friday and after winning the first T20, Pakistan will be hope to repeat the fantastic performance once again.

The seven-wicket loss in the first T20 on Wednesday was Australia’s heaviest in terms of balls to spare for the chasing team, after George Bailey’s men were bundled out for just 89.

Pakistan’s spin trio of Saeed Ajmal, Hasan Raza and Mohammad Hafeez shared six wickets in the first Twenty20 and skipper Hafeez will be hoping that his bowlers don’t dissapoint in the second match. Pacer Umar Gul was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, so Australian batsmen have to be at their best if they stand any chance of winning.

The second match is expected to be the toughest match of the tour because Aussies would give their best to level the series 1-1 while Pakistan on the other hand will be hoping to take an unassailable lead in the series.

Pakistan went into bat with the combination of Mohammad Hafeez and Imran Nazir and the in-form Nasir Jamshed was pushed down to the number 3 spot. It is quite clear that even at the age of 30, Nazir needs a stable head at the other end to keep him from jumping down the pitch every two deliveries. Therefore, Pakistan should stick to this order unless the situation demands otherwise.

Things change very fast and just two days after winning the ODI series, the Australians find themselves with a lot to prove. The role reversal also extends out to the two new captains. Considerable pressure is mounting up on Bailey while a relatively calm Hafeez finds himself in a good position. Australian batsmen have to prove what they are capable of in the shorter format of the game.

Australia might have missed a trick by not playing Brad Hogg and could look to rectify that on Friday by potentially sacrificing a batsman and changing the combination of the team. Pakistan is most likely go in with their winning combination.

Pakistan will take a lot of confidence from the first game and look to keep the Aussies on the mat in the second. However, Australia have to bounce back in order to keep the series alive.

Probable XIs:
Australia: 1 George Bailey (capt), 2 Shane Watson, 3 David Warner, 4 Cameron White, 5 David Hussey, 6 Michael Hussey, 7 Matthew Wade, 8 Glenn Maxwell, 9 Ben Hilfenhaus, 10 Brad Hogg, 11 Pat Cummins

Pakistan: 1 Mohammad Hafeez (capt), 2 Imran Nazir, 3 Nasir Jamshed, 4 Shoaib Malik, 5 Umar Akmal, 6 Kamran Akmal, 7 Abdul Razzaq, 8 Sohail Tanveer, 9 Umar Gul, 10 Saeed Ajmal, 11 Raza Hasan
