Fernando: Thanks, the strategy was for me and Umar Gul to bowl well together. I just tried to vary my pace as much as I could. This wicket has a little more bounce than the other wickets especially when you bowl a slower bouncer, so I just tried to exploit that as much as I could.

Dilhara Fernando is the Man of the Match

Kandamby: We started the game really well. The batsmen gave us a good start. I think while bowling the spinners really came in to play. Dilhara has been someone who has played a lot of cricket and I knew he was a wicket taking bowler. There is a long way to go from here.

Dilshan: I think we didn’t start well, and we lost a lot of wickets in the first 7 odd overs. I think the wicket slowed down a bit and that is why it wasn’t easy to hit. There are still some positives to take and we are 2nd in the table. There is a long way to go and there are areas that we can work on.

Tamim: It was a good wicket and the ball was coming on to the bat so I was just enjoying myself. We decided that we will not look at the scoreboard and we will just enjoy and play. I was unwell for the past few days but I am fit now. I think Kamran did a tremendous job because he just came straight from the airport and played for us

Tamim Iqbal is the Man of the Match

Mahela: We will take such a win on any day I guess. It is a very good wicket and our two openers batted really well. When you are chasing anything over 160 then you need to come up with something special and the openers played really well and just kept going. We only had 3 overseas players to start off with but then Kamran landed today and we got him into the side. The management did really well to actually get Kamran here in time.

Mubarak: We thought 179 would be enough. It feels like a harsh game when you lose after putting on such a total but Kamran and Tamim batted very well. The boundaries just kept coming and we struggled to stop the flow of boundaries. Perhaps we should have bowled some more yorkers early on but a lot can be said in hindsight. I would have taken a target of 180 before the game on any day.

Australia vs England Highlights ICC Under-19 World Cup 2012

Posted: 12 Aug 2012 01:15 AM PDT

Australia U19 vs England U19 Highlights of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2012 in Australia. Defending champions Australian made a dream start to their defence of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup with a six-wicket win against arch rival England in Townsville.

Aussie bowlers utilised the bouncy wicket and tricky weather conditions after their captain Will Bosisto elected to field first and restricted England to 143. Australia struck early with West Australia’s Joel Paris taking out English danger-man Daniel Bell-Drummond for a duck. Paceman Mark Steketee then claimed the valuable wicket of Ben Foakes (2). West Australia’s Ashton Turner claimed the wickets of Ben Duckett (15) and Sam Wood (0) with consecutive deliveries, unfortunately missing his hat-trick with the first ball of his next over. New South Wales’ quick Gurinder Sandhu was well suited to the fast wicket and had a great day with the ball finishing with figures of 9.3-1-27-3.

Kevin Pietersen commits future to England

Posted: 12 Aug 2012 12:45 AM PDT

England star Kevin Pietersen on Saturday unreservedly committed his future to England, just days after dropping a bombshell by suggesting that the third and final Test against South Africa might be his last.

In an interview posted on YouTube Pietersen insisted: “I want to commit to all forms of cricket for England, because I love playing cricket for England.

“I’m not going anywhere – I want to commit to all forms of cricket for England because I love playing for England,” added Pietersen, who explained he wanted to provide “confirmation and clarity” regarding his situation.

“I love being part of a successful England team – we are a successful team,” said Pietersen.

“It would be really sad to end a career like this so sitting down with my family, my advisers and my close friends we’ve decided and I’ve decided that it would be a lot better to finish my career for England on a positive note rather than one that’s being developed at the moment.”

On Monday he had stated: “I can’t rule out that my next Test may be my last,” after winning the man of the match award in the drawn second Test at Headingley after a superb innings of 149, which he followed up by taking three wickets.

On Saturday, he made a volte-face, saying he had recognised he realised his love for the international game was too great to let it go and said his earlier comments had been misguided.

“There was a press conference that I did Monday night which I didn’t handle the right way. I was very emotional. I am who I am in terms of shooting from the hip occasionally. I bat like that – I bowled like that last week! I do make mistakes.”

He added that the dressing room mood had been “sorted out” after a “really really good long chat” to an unnamed team mate on Friday.

“We went through everything … we went through differences, we went through loads of different things and I actually finished that conversation a very happy bloke and somebody who cannot wait to meet up with team on Tuesday,” said Pietersen.

He said that Monday “I was in an emotional state – I did think that there was a possibility it was my penultimate Test match.

“I said things I probably shouldn’t have said – I’m sitting here today clearing things up,” said Pietersen, saying he was returning unconditionally.

“I am wanting to play all three forms of cricket for England again.

“I want to make myself available for every single form of cricket for England.”

He added that he had had support from his “marvellous franchise” Delhi Daredevils, who had been understanding in recognising he would not play the whole Indian Premier League season.

“I won’t be playing the full IPL – IPL is definitely not an elephant in the room any more,” he stressed.

South African-born Pietersen’s future had been a major issue before the series against the Proteas began.

The 32-year-old had already announced his retirement from one-day international cricket, amid speculation he wanted to be available for a full IPL programme.

That fuelled speculation that his motivation for quitting the ODI scene was largely financial – something he roundly rejected Saturday.

“Money is not everything to me – I love winning for England. I loved the runs I scored at Headingley.

“Winning makes me happy.”

But he did concede that financial security was very important to him.

“I’ve got a young family – you need to care for your family.

“Luckily I do get financially well-looked after.”

Pietersen had explained Monday that “it’s tough for me playing for England,” while blasting what he suggested were media leaks about his negotiations with the England and Wales Cricket Board leading into the series.

He insisted he did not talk to reporters “about anything that was spoken about behind closed doors, that I thought were closed doors.”

South Africa, gunning for England’s world number one Test side position, are currently 1-0 up in the series after Monday’s second Test draw. The third Test starts at Lord’s on August 16.
