England vs South Africa 3rd ODI Post Match Presentation 2012

Posted: 31 Aug 2012 01:55 PM PDT

AB de Villiers: “Thought it was a good toss to win, it wasn’t a 210 wicket. The top order didn’t take responsibility and we came up short. Most of our senior players got in and didn’t make it count, including me, I played a very poor shot.”

Alastair Cook: “A lot of character was shown there. It was a really good bowling performance. You wouldn’t want to chase too many more on that wicket. Eoin and Jonathan played two very good innings. It’s always nice to get a first win. There were a few nerves up there. Credit to the way we batted. So to cross the line is really pleasing. Jade came in, we wanted a wicket-taker, and he took wickets for us.”

The Man of the Match goes to Eoin Morgan: Tonight the pitch played consistently throughout and I could play myself in. I’ve been in the side for a while now and I enjoy taking the reins in the middle order.

Pakistan vs Australia highlights 2nd ODI played at Abu Dhabi, UAE on 31 August 2012. Pakistan vs Australia 2nd ODI Cricket Highlights 2012.

Australia came back strongly over the Pakistan spin attack and beat them in the 1st ODI played at sharjah. Australia know that the Pakistan will come on hard with spin in 2nd ODI as well and are looking confident to deal with them. Pakistan on the other hand looks like were over confident and failed to put up good show. Pakistan knows the conditions well but still their batsman were not able to perform. Shahid Afridi failed to bat and same goes with other batsman too. So can Pakistan bounce back? Or will Australia take the series away today?

Pakistan vs Australia 2nd ODI Highlights will be posted here.

SLPL 2012 Final: Nagenahira Nagas wins toss, elects to bat against Uva Next

Posted: 31 Aug 2012 08:28 AM PDT

Toss: Nagenahira Nagas have won the toss and elected to bat

Mathews: We will bat first. I am not worried about the rain. We cannot control what happens with the weather. Uva are a good team and they gave a good fight. This pitch will be a bit slow and 160 is a good score.

Kandamby: I would have batted first as well. If we restrict them to 160, we will be in the game. Dilhara Fernando is in. We had a very good chat and anything under 160 is a good score.

Pitch Report: The pitch has not changed much and there will be some swing early on due to the humidity. With some rain hard, it is better to bat second. Kumar Sangakkara says that the par score on this wicket is 150.

Misbah: Nobody is really sure thanks to the dew. Unfortunately, Afidi is out with a back injury, Rehman replaces him. Junaid will play instead of Cheema. We are looking forward for the pacers to start well, our spinners have usually done well for us over the last couple of years.

Ross Taylor century put New Zealand on top on Day 1: 2nd Test

Posted: 31 Aug 2012 07:29 AM PDT

Captain Ross Taylor launched a stunning counter-attack with a blistering 113 as New Zealand showed great fighting spirit to recover from early jolts in the second cricket Test on Friday.

Scorecard | Highlights

Taylor notched up his seventh Test century to pull his team out of trouble and guide the Kiwis to a respectable 328 for six on the opening day before bad light stopped play at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

It was a vastly improved batting display by the Kiwis who were bundled out cheaply in both the innings in the massive defeat in the first Test in Hyderabad.

Taylor showed the way as he led from the front by being more aggressive against the spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Pragyan Ojha who could not extract much turn from the first day track.

Wicketkeeper batsman Kruger van Wyk (63) and Doug Bracewell (30) were at the crease at stumps on a day which saw a record score being put up by a visiting team on Day one at this stadium.

Opener Martin Guptill (53) and Daniel Flynn (33) were the other notable contributors for the Kiwis who showed a greater application against the spinners after deciding to bat first.

The visitors were at a shaky 89 for three at one stage before Taylor and Flynn resurrected the innings with a 107-run fourth wicket partnership.

Taylor, who failed in both the innings in Hyderabad, unleashed a flurry of strokes as the runs came at a brisk pace right through the day. Taylor clobbered 16 boundaries and two sixes in his 127-ball knock.

Pragyan Ojha was the pick of the Indian bowlers on Day one by taking four wickets for 90 runs while Zaheer Khan and Ashwin chipped in with a wicket each.

When play stopped, Wyk and Bracewell had put up a resilient 82-run partnership for unbroken seventh wicket.

After tea, Ojha and Zaheer kept Taylor and van Wyk on a tight leash. Ojha bowled three successive maidens before dismissing Taylor who went for the sweep to a tossed up fullish delivery only to be missed and hit on his pad in front of the middle stump.

Once Taylor left the scene, Wyk attacked the Indian bowlers. The stocky batsman played some courageous shots, pulling and cutting Indian bowlers to the fence with elan.

Wyk quickly reached to his fifty in 60 balls with seven fours. He had started slowly, scoring 12 runs in 36 balls.

At the other end, Bracewell dropped anchor which infused confidence in Wyk to take on Indian bowlers.

Ashwin, who had bagged 12 wickets in the first Test in Hyderabad, looked out of sorts picking up one wicket of Daniel Flynn. The Chennai tweaker did not trouble New Zealand batsmen throughout the day as he failed to get turn and bounce from the wicket.

Taylor and Flynn played aggressively before tea, dispatching loose deliveries as Indian bowlers struggled to contain the run flow.

Taylor was especially severe on Ashwin and Ojha, and to some extent Zaheer, clobbering them all over the park.

In an over, the Kiwi skipper belted four boundaries in Ojha’s over and raced to his 17th Test half century which came off 46 balls.

Flynn supported his skipper to put on their first 100 runs partnership of the match. Both stitched a brisk 107 runs partnership in 113 balls taking New Zealand to 196 for three.

There was a setback for New Zealand when the dangerous-looking partnership was broken by Ashwin trapping Flynn for his individual score of 33 runs which was studded with six boundaries.

After the departure of Flynn, pacer Umesh Yadav and Ashwin tightened the screws and dried the run flow of the Kiwis, which resulted in losing James Franklin cheaply for eight runs.

Ojha picked his third wicket when Suresh Raina manning the midwicket area took a splendid diving catch.

Earlier electing to bat, New Zealand got off to a poor start, losing Brendon McCullum in the second over with the visitors yet to open their account.

After McCullum’s exit, Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson played watchfully and managed to accumulate runs against pacers Zaheer and Umesh Yadav.

While Guptill seemed to be in all sorts of trouble negotiating the Indian attack, which extracted some bounce in the first hour, Williamson played with confidence.

Guptill got a reprieve on 17 when Virat Kohli in the third slip failed to latch on to an outer edge off Zaheer’s bowling. He got lucky once again when he edged the ball that flew right of the diving Virender Sehwag in slips.

After New Zealand crossed 50, Guptill belted three boundaries in an over of Yadav and soon reached his half-century, carving one to third man fence. He faced 62 balls to get to fifty with eight hits to the fence.

Williamson, meanwhile, failed to sustain and got trapped LBW by Ojha, who had him for the third time in three innings on this tour. Williamson scored 17 runs off 44 balls with the help of two boundaries.

Guptill tried to attack the spinners but ended up giving a simple catch to Gautam Gambhir at midwicket off Ojha. He departed for a brisk 79-ball 53.

Live: India vs New Zealand 2nd Test Bangalore #IndvNZ 2012

Posted: 30 Aug 2012 09:31 PM PDT

Toss: New Zealand have won the toss and elected to bat

Teams:
New Zealand (Playing XI): Brendon McCullum, Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor(c), Daniel Flynn, James Franklin, Kruger van Wyk(w), Doug Bracewell, Tim Southee, Jeetan Patel, Trent Boult

India (Playing XI): Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Cheteshwar Pujara, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni(w/c), Ravichandran Ashwin, Zaheer Khan, Pragyan Ojha, Umesh Yadav

Taylor: We’ll bat first, There will be something in it for the bowlers in the first hour but we’ll have to handle that. The average score is 450, so we need to bat properly. We have to try and forget the 1st Test and take as many positives as we can. Southee comes in for Chris Martin.

Dhoni: We would have batted first also. It’s a lot harder and has a bit more grass than the Hyderabad wicket. We play the same side. We don’t look too much ahead and we will look to keep it simple. The weather is terrific, it’ll stay cloudy throughout the Test match.

Pitch Report: There will be some lateral movement and there will be some turn as the game progresses. The pitch is slightly different from the usual Bangalore wicket. It is not too dry, probably because of the rain around. If there is bounce, then spinners will have their say. Win the toss and bat first says Sunny Gavaskar.
