Delhi Daredevils vs Chennai Super Kings Post Match Presentation IPL 2012

Posted: 10 Apr 2012 12:24 PM PDT

Morne: First game here so it was important for us to get off to a good start. The groundsmen have put in a lot of hardwork and have given us a good wicket. There are 24 balls and you have to give it your all.

Morne Morkel is the Man of the Match

Sehwag: Bowlers did a fantastic job. Especially Morkel and Umesh were good. The left arm spinner was fantastic as well. Pietersen and Mahela batted well. I can play freely because we have them in the middle order.

Dhoni: In the second half the wicket behaved in a better way. The odd ball was spinning. We have to put something on the board else it becomes difficult. We wanted a left – right combination in the crease at all times but at one point we were stuck with 2 right handers. We have lost 4 in a row at times so we have been there before. We are not playing good cricket, last game we were good but we need to be consistent. It’s important to get this game away from you but it’s also important to go through games like these, it makes you stronger as a unit.

Mumbai Indians Vs Rajasthan Royals, Match 12, IPL 2012: Preview

Posted: 10 Apr 2012 11:12 AM PDT

Hosts Mumbai Indians need to address their batting concerns as they take on Rajasthan Royals, who are at the top spot in IPL 2012 points table, in their Twenty20 cricket match at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday.

Mumbai have struggled in chasing small totals in their last two matches and had Rohit Sharma not played a heroic 50-ball 73, they could have lost Monday night’s match against Deccan Chargers.

The Harbhajan Singh-led side, without the calming influence of the injured Sachin Tendulkar at the top of the order, once again seemed to be floundering while chasing a none-too-difficult target of 139 before the under-performing Rohit did the last-over magic when the side needed 18 runs.

Rohit’s whirlwind unbeaten knock and good support from West Indian Kieron Pollard saved the day for MI after their bowlers had done a commendable job in restricting their rivals to a manageable total.

The bowlers, led from the front by Harbhajan Singh, have delivered in all three matches they have played and it’s time for the openers to give the side a good start in the absence of Tendulkar whose finger injury is yet to heal completely.

The senior batsman is uncertain to play Wednesday’s game and in his absence MI have tried out Hyderabad-born Ambati Rayudu and T Suman as partners to South African Richard Levi without much success.

Levi, who cracked a half-century and won the MoM award in the opener against CSK, too has flopped in the last two games and Mumbai would be anxious to get the opening combination right for the game against the Royals.

The bowlers have delivered in brilliant style for Mumbai with Munaf Patel in particularly good form in the last two games he has played ? grabbing 2 for 26 against Pune Warriors and then a stunning 4 for 20 against Deccan Chargers.

Lasith Malinga has always been a threat for the rival batsmen and was well used by Harbhajan against Chargers.

A battle within the battle could be the one-on-one contest between Trinidadian all-rounders Pollard and Kevon Copper, who has hit the ground running for the Royals in his inaugural competition with the variations in his medium paced bowling.

Royals have another advantage in the sense that they have Ajinkya Rahane and Ankit Chavan, who play for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy and consider Wankhede as their home ground.

Rahane started the tournament with a blitz against Kings XI Punjab when he made a blistering 66-ball 98 with 16 fours and a six.

He as well as Royals’ captain and opening partner Rahul Dravid were both run out in the second game against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 8 and the duo would be eager not to repeat the mistakes they had made.

It is Royals’ first away game in IPL-5 and they had won both their home matches on the strength of their batting.

Against Mumbai, their bowling attack will definitely be tested.

Royals have a good middle-order in the form of Rajasthan Ranji Trophy batsman and former India under-19 player, Ashok Meneria, and the experienced Australian Brad Hodge.

Both Meneria and Hodge played important innings of 40 and 44 respectively, after the early fall of the two openers, and along with wicket-keeper batsman Shreevats Goswami provided the team with a defendable total of 164 against the strong KKR batting line-up.

Left-arm slow Chavan, off spinner Johan Botha, Cooper, bowling alongside medium pacers Amit Singh and Sidharth Triverdi, then applied the brakes on the rival batsman to help the Royals earn a creditable win.

It showed they have the bowling strength to stop top batsmen from running away though the Mumbai attack seems to hold an edge.

With both teams level on points (4), though Royals have a much better net run rate, a victory for either side would take them to the top of the nine-team league table.

Toss: Delhi Daredevils have won the toss and elected to field

Delhi Daredevils (Playing XI): Virender Sehwag(c), Mahela Jayawardene, Kevin Pietersen, Naman Ojha(w), Yogesh Nagar, Venugopal Rao, Irfan Pathan, Roelof van der Merwe, Shahbaz Nadeem, Morne Morkel, Umesh Yadav

Sehwag: We have to do well in all 3 departments if we have to win. We are happy to have KP back and boys are very confident. We will bowl first as it will be damp beacause of rain and it will assist the faster bowlers. KP, Mahela and Roelof van der Merwe are back in the side.

Dhoni: Yesterday we had a good practice session. Well the local talent has been our strength and it really adds on to our team. It’s an unpredictable wicket as it has behaved differently in the past. We were also looking to bowl, but we will try to do well in the initial overs. Its important to win in this format and hope we continue doing that. We are playing with the same side

Balaji: In T20, bowlers normally are at the receiving end but I got a good momentum today. Should appreciate the first few overs where Kallis and Lee were superb. It was a team effort from us. The plan was to bowl straight and stick to the basics, wanted the ball to do the rest. ABD is one of the best players in the world and it was good to get him. In T20 wickets matter a lot and we just wanted to strike early. We did the basics right and got the results.

Balaji is the Man of the Match for his 4-18.

Gambhir: Absolutely, very happy with a win on the board. We have potential in the dressing room and just needed one win. I’ve never seen a better bowling performance than what Balaji did, he was brilliant today. Lee and Kallis are quality bowlers and we had a god back up in Bala. It was a complete team effort.

Vettori: The last 8 overs was exceptional, but the opening spell by Kallis and Balaji was brilliant. We couldn’t get any momentum and continued to lose wickets which made it difficult. It’s not an easy outfield to run around but the fielding was excellent today.

Delhi Daredevils Vs Chennai Super Kings IPL 2012: Preview

Posted: 09 Apr 2012 03:30 PM PDT

Bolstered by the addition of Sri Lankan Mahela Jayawardene and explosive England batsman Kevin Pietersen, Delhi Daredevils would aim to put behind the disappointment of a previous loss and get back to winning ways when they host Chennai Super Kings in an IPL match.

The Chennai Super Kings and the Delhi Daredevils have had contrasting performances in their previous match. While Chennai brushed off their rustiness to thrash Deccan Chargers in style, the Daredevils faltered against an inspired Royal Challengers Bangalore.

But the addition of Jayawardene and Pietersen is expected to give a much-needed boost to Delhi’s batting.

Both were in tremendous form during the recently-concluded Test series in Sri Lanka.

While Jayawardene scored back-to-back centuries, Pietersen roared back to form with a match-winning 151 in the drawn Test series.

Although the format is entirely different, the confidence of the duo being among runs will certainly be a positive that Delhi will look forward to at the Feroze Shah Kotla stadium.

Chennai, the most consistent side in the IPL, were beaten fair and square in front of their home crowd by Mumbai in the inaugural match of the season last week, but clawed their way back by outclassing 2009 edition winners Deccan by 74 runs last Saturday.

Ravindra Jadeja proved to an extent his worth with his brilliant allround performance — 48 off 29 balls and a career-best five for 16 with the ball in Visakhapatnam.

West Indian Dwayne Bravo and ODI and T20 specialist Suresh Raina’s hard-hitting capabilities will also keep the Delhi bowlers in check.

But the indifferent form of skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been a cause of concern for a team, chasing a hat-trick of titles.

Two other key players — Australian Doug Bollinger and Ravichandran Ashwin — their pace and spin spearheads — would also be eager to make a mark.

For Delhi, underachievers in the last four seasons, the arrival of Pietersen and Jayawardene would bolster the batting, which was found wanting in their previous game.Delhi lost the match by 20 runs with skipper Virender Sehwag failing miserably for the second consecutive time.

Sehwag will have to take the extra load along with Naman Ojha and Venugopal Rao.

If Jayawardene plays tomorrow, then Delhi’s Australian recruit Aaron Finch will have to make way. In the case of Pietersen, another Australian Glenn Maxwell or West Indian Andre Russell will most likely sit out.

The spin department, however, looks a bit thin with left-armer Shahbaz Nadeem leading the attack. Irfan Pathan, Morne Morkel and Umesh Yadav would be leading the pace attack.

Teams:

DD (Probable): Naman Ojha (wk), Virender Sehwag (c), Mahela Jayawardene, Aaron Finch, Y Venugopal Rao, Kevin Pietersen , Morne Morkel, Irfan Pathan, Yogesh Nagar, Umesh Yadav, Shabaz Nadeem.

CSK (Probable): Faf du Plessis, Murali Vijay, Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo, Albie Morkel, S Badrinath, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shadab Jakati, Doug Bollinger.

Kolkata Knight Riders Vs Royal Challengers Bangalore IPL 2012: Preview

Posted: 09 Apr 2012 02:30 PM PDT

Riding high on their opening match triumph, Royal Challengers Bangalore would look to continue the winning streak when they take on a struggling Kolkata Knight Riders at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here Tuesday.

Led by Daniel Vettori, RCB beat Delhi Daredevils by 20 runs on Saturday and the New Zealander would hope his men would pull off yet another victory to make sure they don’t go haywire after making a good start, which has been the story until last IPL.

On the other hand, after tasting two defeats in a row, Kolkata Knight Riders would look to reverse their fortunes when they play their third match against southern powerhouse RCB.

RCB were impressive against DD, both A B de Villiers and Muttiah Muralitharan starred with bat and ball respectively.

RCB were served well by wily Muralitharan’s three for 25, after de Villiers set it up with a blazing 64 off 42 balls. He hit six fours and two sixes in an innings that gave Bangalore the platform.

On Tuesday, RCB would be hoping to get a rollicking start from Chris Gayle, who sat out due to fitness issues in the last match, and Tillakratane Dilshan.

Virat Kohli, the current toast of Indian cricket, would hope to fire after he had a brief stay at the crease scoring just eight runs.

If given a chance, Cheteshwar Pujara and Saurabh Tiwary, who know the conditions well here, can also make useful contributions.

The rest of the batting too has solid names such as Andrew McDonald, de Villiers, Mayank Agarwal and Vettori apart from a tail which consists of Vinay Kumar, Zaheer Khan and Harshal Vikram Patel, who all have skills to add a few quick runs.

KKR, on the flipside, have failed to capitalise on their good batting and bowling lineup so far. They first lost to Delhi Daredevils in a rain-curtailed game and Rajasthan Royals on Sunday.

In their next encounter with the RCB, KKR, who became the first team to lose both their matches this IPL, would look for a better batting performance and build partnerships to bounce back on the track of winning ways.

Losing nine wickets in a truncated match would be a cause of worry for any captain and this continued even in their next outing against RR where they lost four quick wickets in the form of Jacques Kallis, Gautam Gambhir, Brendon McCullum and Debabrata Das for just 25 runs in six overs.

Gambhir, who lost India’s vice-captaincy to Kohli, would look to give a solid start along side Kallis. A good start would help players like McCullum, Manoj Tiwary, Yusuf Pathan and Laxmi Ratan Shukla break the shackles.

Tiwary would be desperate to prove a point to the Indian team management after being denied a single opportunity during the entire tri-series in Australia and the subsequent Asia Cup in Bangladesh. Tiwary was the only batsman for KKR to make a half century scoring 59 against RR.

Teams:

RCB (Probable): Mayank Agarwal, Andrew McDonald, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers(w), Saurabh Tiwary, Cheteshwar Pujara, Daniel Vettori(c), Zaheer Khan, Vinay Kumar, Harshal Vikram Patel, Muttiah Muralitharan

KKR (Probable): Brendon McCullum (wk), Jacques Kallis, Gautam Gambhir (c), Manoj Tiwary, Yusuf Pathan, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Rajat Bhatia, Brett Lee, Iqbal Abdulla, Debrata Das, Sunil Narine
