Mumbai Indians Vs Delhi Daredevils Post Match Presentation IPL 2012

Posted: 27 Apr 2012 12:33 PM PDT

Sehwag: I’m in prime form. We discuss in meetings that either me or Mahela should stay till 15 overs and let the power hitters take over. The only thing I’m talking about is concentrating on the process. The boys will not be overconfident and have the right attitude. Full credit goes to the crowd, they supported us and Tendulkar. It was as if a Delhi player had come out to bat.

Harbhajan: I don’t have a choice but to smile. We didn’t get the result in our favour but Delhi batted very well. When batsmen like Sehwag and KP play like that, it’s tough for the bowlers. We can only wish that Sehwag misses the ball, nothing else we can do. He is the best I’ve played with and played against. Delhi like to chase, so we took the risk. We didn’t bowl well enough. We should have restricted them to around 170, but nothing worked out. Karthik and Rayudu are fantastic players and hopefully they continue to do well.

Sehwag is the Man of the Match

Harbhajan: We got a great win for ourselves in our last match and we really needed that win. We have a team that can come back from any situation. T20 is a format that allows players to just go out and express themselves so that’s what we will be looking to do. Two best teams of this competition are playing together so we wil try and put our best game forward. We will try and get Sehwag early and then take it from there. Franklin is not feeling well unfortunately so Blizzard comes into the team

Sehwag: I think Delhi is always a full house whenever we play for India or for the Daredevils. Last couple of days has seen some rain but now the weather is good so hopefully we will have a 20 over game. I don’t mind batting first on this track. We have a line up that can chase or defend. Negi is out and Agarkar comes in.

Pitch report: The pitch looks flat and has a tinge of green on it. Navjot Singh Siddhu feels that it will help the batsmen and that they should be able to get a lot of runs on this surface

Shivnarine Chanderpaul 10th player to reach 10,000 runs in Test Cricket

Posted: 27 Apr 2012 03:40 AM PDT

Veteran batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul on Thursday became only the 10th player in history to make 10,000 Test runs. Guyanese left-hander Chanderpaul, who made his debut in 1994, brought up the landmark with his 14th run, an on-drive for a single off Australia captain Michael Clarke.

“I have received support from many people over the years and I want to thank everyone for their massive support and their belief in me,” Chanderpaul said after the day’s play. “I just give thanks for all that I have achieved and the fact that I am still around, fit and strong and I can continue to contribute. “When I started, I came into a team with many big names and I was able to learn from them and build on what they taught me. Now, part of my role in the team is to help the younger players to do well and try to improve their game and become better cricketers for the team.”

He is the second West Indian to the milestone after Brian Lara, who ranks fifth on the list with 11,953. Going into the current game, he had made 25 centuries, 57 fifties and boasted a top score of 203 not out with an average of 49.83.

He was congratulated warmly by the Roseau crowd and also by Australia’s fielders, who all applauded once the single was taken. The 10,000th run also served to take his Test match batting average back above 50.

“It felt really, really good to reach this milestone today and I am very excited. I have been batting well and spending a lot of time at the crease and to reach 10,000 Test runs in something special for me,” he said. “It was one of the goals I set myself and I believe I have reaped for reward for the hard work I put in over the years. I have worked hard over the years and when I go to bat I know I have a job to do for the team and the people of the West Indies. Test cricket is the ultimate form of the game and this is where you want to perform and give of your best. I will keep striving for more,” he added.

Earlier in the series Chanderpaul had surpassed Lara as the highest run-scorer of all West Indian batsmen at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

IPL 2012 Preview: Delhi Daredevils Vs Mumbai Indians, 27 April 2012

Posted: 26 Apr 2012 03:30 PM PDT

A thrilling victory against Kings XI Punjab in Mohali must have provided the much-needed boost to Mumbai Indians but hosts Delhi Daredevils still remain favourites when the two teams square off in a return-leg IPL match on Friday.

With tournament reaching mid-way stage, Virender Sehwag’s men have looked most compact among the nine sides in the fray and the Daredevils will certainly like to consolidate their position as table toppers.

The last time the two teams locked horns at the Wankhede Stadium, Delhi pacers had steamrolled over the ‘Men in Blue’ but that was a match that didn’t feature Sachin Tendulkar.

Both teams had contrasting victories in their previous matches.

While Daredevils romped home courtesy a typical Sehwag innings against Pune Warriors, Mumbai Indians had to depend on Robin Peterson’s innovations and Piyush Chawla’s profligacy to get their campaign back on track.

Even as Tendulkar’s form in the two matches, since his comeback from finger injury, has been reassuring, Mumbai Indians’ bowling is still a cause of worry with no Lasith Malinga to bowl those menacing toe-crushers at the death.

Skipper Harbhajan Singh’s extended ‘wicket-drought’ has also affected the team very badly. The veteran of 98 Tests and 229 ODIs has managed only one wicket in seven games so far.

Worse, Harbhajan has been leaking runs regularly and has not contributed well with the bat.

The Daredevils, on the other hand, have been pretty consistent throughout.

The Daredevils bowlers have done a commendable job save Pune Warriors game when they were taken apart. And with Virender Sehwag, Kevin Pietersen in good form, it would take a special effort from MI to upset the Daredevils applecart.

Among bowlers, Morne Morkel has proved to be an able leader with 16 wickets, while other pacers in Irfan Pathan and Umesh Yadav have bowled well in patches. The revelation, however, has been their young left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem, who has had a brilliant tournament so far.

An economy rate of less than six in seven matches is something any bowler would be proud of. Young Delhi lad Pawan Negi also bowled with a lot of heart in their away game against Pune Warriors.

While the bowling attack looks pretty sorted, there is one area that Sehwag might ponder upon. His team has never batted first in the seven matches. The five matches that they have won have been primarily based on good starts by the top-order.

It is still to be seen as to how the middle-order perform under pressure. Ross Taylor hasn’t yet got a decent hit while Mahela Jayawardene is also due for a big score.

The likes of Naman Ojha, Yogesh Nagar would also want to prove that they can win matches singlehandedly without the help of successful stars.

In all, an exciting contest is on cards.

Teams:

DD (probable): Virender Sehwag (c), Naman Ojha(c), Kevin Pietersen, Mahela Jayawardene, Ross Taylor, Irfan Pathan, Yogesh Nagar, Morne Morkel, P Negi, Shahbaz Nadeem, Umesh Yadav

MI (probable): Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, Ambati Raydu, Kieron Pollard, Dinesh Kathik (wk), James Franklin, Harbhajan Singh (c), Clint McKay, Robin Peterson, Munaf Patel, Rudra Pratap Singh
