Chennai Super Kings Vs Pune Warriors Post Match Presentation IPL 2012

Posted: 14 Apr 2012 12:16 PM PDT

Jesse Ryder (MoM): I wanted to continue my own game and wanted to bat through the innings. When Steve came in and played the ball like he did it just helped me a lot. This track was completely different to the one we played on earlier out here. The ball was coming on to the bat better today and it was great batting on this surface. When Smith came out and struck the ball in the way he did it just made the game very easy. I normally get off to a flier and then throw it away but today I think I played the complete 20 overs for the first time in my career so that is a huge positive for me.

Dhoni: In the last over I just checked on Yo Mahesh. He looked quite positive so I thought he is a youngster and he could do the job. Unfortunately it didn’t go his way today. We have some weak links, we need to improve our bowling. It is not something new to us. In the last 5 years we have been imporving but we have been doing it slowly

Ganguly: It was a great game and a great cricketing pitch. I thought the crowd was fantastic. I think Ashish and Dinda bowled really well. Samuels was brilliant at the death. I think we restricted them really well. Jesse has come from very different pitches but it is great to see him adapt so quickly. Hopefully he can keep doing the same throughout the tournament

Toss: Chennai Super Kings have won the toss and elected to bat

Dhoni: Albie Morkel batted well. We have seen games change and it was a good win. I try and watch every game. It does not look like a settled wicket. It keeps a bit low. We wil bat first. It is not often that we have batted first. I am not sure how the pitch will behave. The boys are excited and this has lifted the dressing room. This is something that we needed. It is a fantastic stadium. Pune is a small city but good to see jam-packed stadium.

Ganguly: It is a different pitch and it will take a little bit of time to settle down. The atmosphere is great. I would have also batted. Murali Kartik is back and we have dropped a batsman.

Pitch Report: There are some cracks on this pitch. There is a sheen on this wicket indicating that it is a hard pitch. Some green tinges are also visible.

Chennai Super Kings vs Pune Warriors, IPL 5, 14 April 2012: Preview

Posted: 13 Apr 2012 03:30 PM PDT

Pulled up by skipper Sourav Ganguly following a lacklustre showing in their previous outing, Pune Warriors India (PWI) batsmen would look to put up a much better display when they take on the formidable Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), at Pune on Saturday.

The Warriors started the tournament on a positive note, notching up wins in their first two matches, till Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) disturbed the momentum.

The Super Kings, on the other hand, have not been their usual self at the start, but the thrilling win over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Thursday when they chased down 206, should come as a shot in the arm for the visitors.

True, the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium is set to be packed to the brim by Warriors fans, but going by Chennai’s depth and variety, the visitors are not likely to be too worried about that.

As far as captaincy is concerned, Ganguly led the side well, but is yet to fire with the willow.

Considering that they are not a side packed with experienced international stars, it is important that Ganguly takes the lead himself and inspire the rest who follow him in the batting line-up.

The top-order hasn’t fired yet and quicker the likes of Jesse Ryder, Robin Uthappa, Manish Pandey and Angelo Mathews get into the groove, the better it will be for the Warriors in the nine-team T20 tournament.

Their batting may not seem that formidable but Pune surely have a pretty good bowling attack in Ashok Dinda, Ashish Nehra and leg-spinner Rahul Sharma.

Nehra attributed their seven-wicket loss on Thursday to fielding lapses and the failure to play the full quota of 20 overs, and the Warriors would do well to avoid repeating the same mistakes.

The Warriors were bundled out for 115 in 19 overs against Kings XI Punjab.

In stark contrast, the Super Kings batted with aplomb as they successfully chased a mammoth target at the Chepauk stadium.

While Murali Vijay hasn’t really done anything of note till now, his opening partner Faf du Plessis has proved to be one tormentor for the bowlers.

Du Plessis cracked 71 off just 46 deliveries while skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni contributed 41 off 24 that also marked his return to form after a quite start to the tournament.

Albie Morkel and Dwayne Bravo, too, were in their elements as they pummeled the RCB attack.

The defending champions would be hoping to continue the momentum against the Warriors.

The Warriors are placed third on the points table with two wins from three matches, while the Super Kings are on fifth position with as many wins as the hosts from four games. (PTI)

PWI (probable): Jesse Ryder, Sourav Ganguly (c), Robin Uthappa (wk), Mithun Manhas, Angelo Mathews, Marlon Samuels, Manish Pandey, Steven Smith, Rahul Sharma, Ashok Dinda, Ashish Nehra
