India-Pakistan 2nd T20 at Ahmedabad postponed by a day #IndvsPak

Posted: 15 Dec 2012 02:03 AM PST

India-Pakistan 2nd T20 at Ahmedabad postponed by a dayThe second Twenty20 International between India and Pakistan, which was scheduled to be played in Ahmedabad on December 27, has been postponed by a day on the request of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The PCB in its request to the BCCI asked for the Ahmedabad match to be re-scheduled as the fifth death anniversary of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated in 2007, falls on that date.

The game will now be played on December 28, a BCCI release said.

Pakistan will be touring India later this month for a limited-overs series comprising of two Twenty20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals.

The tour will commence with a T20 match in Bangalore on December 25. While the three ODIs will take place in Chennai (Dec 30), Kolkata (Jan 3) and Delhi (Jan 6).

This is the first time in five years that Pakistan will be visiting India for a bilateral cricket series. Ties between the two countries’ were hit after the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Sri Lanka in trouble at close of Day 2 of 1st Test against Australia #SLvsAus

Sri Lanka in trouble at close of Day 2 of 1st Test against AustraliaFour Sri Lankan wickets rewarded a Michael Hussey-induced declaration to have Australia in a powerful position after the second day of the first Hobart Test on Saturday.

Veteran Hussey’s fifth century in six Tests against Sri Lanka enabled skipper Michael Clarke to call a halt to Australia’s first innings at 450 for five off 131 overs, some 30 minutes before tea on a rain-interrupted day.

Clarke’s call was backed by his bowlers who captured the wickets of Dimuth Karunaratne and the prized scalps of Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and Thilan Samaraweera in the final session.

At the close, Sri Lanka were 87 for four with Tillakaratne Dilshan not out 50 with Samaraweera out in day’s final over.

Dilshan reached his 50 off 82 balls when he hooked Shane Watson for four in the penultimate over of the day.

Evergreen Hussey continued to flourish this southern summer with an unbeaten 115 for his 19th Test century and third in the last month to share in a 146-run stand with wicketkeeper Matthew Wade (68).

In his six Tests against Sri Lanka, Hussey has scored five centuries at 109.62.

Hussey, batting better than ever at the age of 37, audaciously raised his hundred with a pull off Shaminda Eranga.

Angelo Mathews looked set to take the catch on the mid-wicket boundary ropes but fumbled the chance, allowing the ball to bounce over for four to bring up Hussey’s 100.

Hussey’s knock came off 184 balls with eight fours and a six.

Wade, who had a life on 20 when he was dropped by fielding substitute Suraj Randiv at mid-wicket off Chanaka Welegedara nearing lunch, raised his second Test half-century.

Clarke was the only Australian wicket to fall out in the day’s third over when he edged Eranga to Sangakkara low down at first slip.

The Australian skipper’s 74 off 145 balls took his tally to 1,432 runs this calendar year at 102.28 with a possibility of three more Test innings to come before year’s end.

Clarke had been on track for his fifth century of 2012, three of them double-centuries, along with his Test highest score of 329 not out against India in Sydney last January.

Sri Lanka began boldly but rookie opener Karunaratne was out for 14 in the 10th over when he nibbled at Ben Hilfenhaus and was snapped up by Wade.

The Australians struck two killer blows late in the day with the key wickets of Sangakkara and Jayawardene.

Sangakkara, who scored 192 in his previous Test innings at Hobart five years ago, went cheaply for four when he sliced Peter Siddle to Hussey’s safe hands in the gully to leave the Sri Lankans at 42 for two.

It got worse for the tourists when Watson trapped Jayawardene leg before wicket for 12 in the 23rd over.

Jayawardene, who is relinquishing the team captaincy after the Australian tour, referred the decision to the TV umpire, who upheld the umpire’s verdict.

Samaraweera was out in the final over when he was surprised by spinner Nathan Lyon’s extra bounce and was caught behind for seven.

The signs were not looking good for Sri Lanka, who were chasing their first Test win in Australia at 11 attempts.

Play was extended after a total of 130 minutes were lost to rain in two delays during the day.

Pakistan pacers have potential to upset Indian team at home: Misah, Hafeez #IndvsPak

Posted: 14 Dec 2012 11:13 PM PST

Pakistan pacers have potential to upset Indian team at home Misbah HafeezPakistan’s one-day captain Misbah-ul-Haq and Twenty20 skipper Mohammad Hafeez believe that the pace bowlers picked for the much-anticipated series in India have the ability to rattle the strong batting line-up of the hosts.

“I believe that the pacers selected in the squads have the potential to upset the Indians in their own backyard,” Hafeez said.

He said tall left-arm pacer Mohammad Irfan would be used as a “surprise package” in the Twenty20 series.

“For the pace bowlers, it is a great opportunity to shine and establish themselves in the team because a series against India is always followed very closely by everyone,” Misbah added.

Hafeez will lead Pakistan in the two T20 matches while Misbah will be captaining the one-day squad for the three matches in India.

The two squads feature several pace bowlers including Umar Gul, Junaid Khan, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Irfan, Anwar Ali, Asad Ali and Sohail Tanvir.

Four of the bowlers are left-arm pacers.

“I am very confident and positive that we have the team to beat India and win both the series,” Hafeez stated.

Misbah conceded that matches against India are always high-pressure games for players from both sides.

“But being professional players we are supposed to live and adjust to this unique pressure and I will be telling all the players to go and just play positively on the tour,” Misbah added.

Asked about the omission of experienced all-rounder Abdul Razzaq from both squads and that of flamboyant all-rounder, Shahid Afridi from the ODI squad, Misbah said both had served Pakistan cricket well.

“But people must remember that any decision related to dropping a senior player is not just because of the captain such decisions are taken collectively.” Misbah said.

Hafeez also insisted that there was no conspiracy behind the axing of Razzaq.

“There is no doubt about the ability of Razzaq and his performances but the selectors selected the squads keeping in mind the conditions in India,” he explained.
