PCB team complete inspection at Chinnaswamy stadium #IndvsPak

The four-member inspection team of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) led by their GM (Media Affairs) Nadeem Sarwar on Wednesday inspected the security arrangements and facilities for Pakistan’s T20 match against India to be held at Chinnaswamy stadium on December 25 and seemed pretty satisfied with arrangements.

“We are satisfied with security arrangements and facilities for Pakistan’s T20 match against India to be held at Chinnaswamy stadium on December 25. We have been briefed in detail by the security agencies at both the venues,” Sarwar told reporters here after inspecting Chinnaswamy stadium at Bangalore.

Sarwar expressed confidence in Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and its affiliated units whom he said had enough experience of organizing high-profile international matches.

The Pakistan inspection team has been briefed by a policeman on behalf of City Police Commissioner Jyotiprakash Mirji.

Sarwar said,”They have taken all the steps with regard to providing security. We also have strong beilief that the local administration at various venues have the capability to handle security issues,” he said.

Sachin Tendulkar the greated player i’ve played with: Ricky Ponting

Posted: 03 Dec 2012 05:07 AM PST

Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting, who played his last Test innings on Monday, nominated Sachin Tendulkar as the greatest player he has played against. However, he said that he lost more sleep thinking about ways to dismiss West Indian legend Brian Lara.

He also rated Wasim Akram and Curtly Ambrose as the toughest bowlers he has faced. However, he was quick to add that Harbhajan Singh caused him plenty of headaches.

Just before the feeling of retirement would have sunk in, Ricky Ponting addressed the media in the post-match Press conference following Australia's 309-run defeat against South Africa on the fourth day of the third Test at Perth on Monday.

Holding back his emotions, Ponting stopped a number of times to control his choked voice as he spoke to the media.

“Normally for me when those big moments come and I’ve been under pressure I’ve been able to find something and find something within and go out and score runs and make it all go away,” said Ponting, holding his four-year old daughter Emmy while her one-year-old sister Matisse watched on.

“But I haven’t been able to do that for a while now and that’s when the alarm bells started to ring," Ponting added.

In the 16-minute long press conference Ponting took time to thank his family and wife for the sacrifices they made in order to make him a successful career.

“Within my own mind I knew it was the right time to be walking away," the former Australian skipper said.

“I had a bit more of a fairytale ending in my own eyes than what’s happened this week," Ponting added.

“And still things are going badly for me even now (as a loud tap noise interrupts his press conference), so it’s been one of those weeks I guess," he was quoted as saying by Brisbane Times

“Now that it’s over, it has sunk in,” Ponting continued.

Ponting also thanked Proteas skipper Graeme Smith for the guard of honour that he received from the south African team as he made way to the crease for the last time.
“It was a bit unexpected I must admit,” Ponting said of the gesture, which was organised by Proteas skipper Graeme Smith.

“I was a bit embarrassed. But it was an amazing gesture. I thanked him when I made my way there.”

South Africa crush Australia to clinch series, retain no. 1 test spot #AusvsSA

South Africa ruined Ricky Ponting’s farewell with an emphatic 309-run victory over Australia in the third Test on Monday to clinch the three-match series 1-0 and cement their position at the top of the ICC Test rankings.

Day 4 Highlights 3rd Test

Ponting had been hoping to sign off in his 168th Test with a victory that would have allowed Australia to leapfrog the Proteas and return to the summit of the game they dominated for so much of his career.

Australia, 40-0 overnight, never looked getting anywhere near the winning target of 632 they had been set, however, and were bowled out for 322 in their second innings shortly before the scheduled close of play.

Appropriately, it was the South African bowling unit which sealed the victory after finally firing in Perth to turn the series around with a devastating spell on the morning of day two at the WACA.

The hosts had had the better of day one as well as the drawn Tests in Brisbane and Adelaide but the South Africans struck back with a vengeance to become the first team since West Indies in the 1980s and 1990s to win consecutive series Down Under.

They got the best possible start to the day on Monday with two early wickets which brought 37-year-old Ponting to the crease for his 287th and final Test innings.

Welcomed onto the field by a guard of honour of applauding South Africans, he lasted just 40 minutes and 23 balls before the same players were shaking his hand as he headed back to the pavilion with eight runs to his name.

Two fours, the first a vintage pull, closed his Test tally at 13,378 runs for an average of 51.85 from 168 matches – the second highest run count in the long history of the game.

Stumped

Spinner Robin Peterson (3-127) will go down in the record books as the last bowler to dismiss the Tasmanian, tempting Ponting into an attempted cut which ended up as an edge into the hands of Jacques Kallis in the slips.

The former Australian captain took off his helmet and raised his arms to accept the applause of the crowd before taking his leave from the field where he made his Test debut 17 years ago.

Opener Warner (29) lasted just two deliveries in the bright morning sunshine before edging the ball to Graeme Smith in the slips off the bowling of Vernon Philander.

Watson (25) was the next to depart with Smith again taking the catch after Morne Morkel had softened the all-rounder up with some short bowling.

Ed Cowan outlasted Ponting and had just reached his half century when he fell for 53, leaving Michael Clarke and Mike Hussey to try and build the sort of partnership they enjoyed when Australia were in the ascendancy in the first two Tests.

It was not to be, though, as Clarke (44) was stumped charging down the wicket to Peterson with Hussey (26) and Matthew Wade (10) soon following him back to the dressing room.

The tea break only delayed the departure of Mitchell Johnson (three) and John Hastings (20) but Mitchell Starc (68 not out) and Nathan Lyon wagged the tail with some vigour in a 10th wicket partnership of 87.

Starc showed his top order how they should have been done and claimed his maiden half century in 32 balls, scoring nine fours and two sixes in a fluent innings before Lyon was caught by Smith off the bowling of Dale Steyn (3-72).

Smith: I think we just have to look back to the 90s and see how difficult it is to win in Australia. Today was no different. The way we turned it around was something really special. Both England and Australia are great teams. We enjoyed beating them both. Congratulations to Ponting on a great career and we wish him all the best for the future. He’s the best Australian batsman I have played against. I would love to share some beers and catch up with him now. I thank all the South African fans for getting up early in the morning to cheer us. This one’s for you.

Clarke: I’ll swap the runs for a win here today. Credit to South Africa. They’ve showed what it takes to be No. 1 and what we have to do to get there. To be the best team in the world, you’ve got to run with the momentum when you have it. They bowled well in the first innings in this match and ran with it for the next three days. I’m really proud of my team too. I think we fought really well. I’m doing some hard work behind the scenes. Its good to be scoring runs but we’ve to start winning more. Ponting’s loss will be a big one. It’s a huge loss for cricket. We’ll keep him involved in cricket somehow.

Michael Clarke is the Mos for his 576 runs during the series.

Amla: I’m just glad to make a contribution in a winning cause. The bowlers did a fantastic job. Experience always helps. I’m very fortunate that this year has gone well. We’ve got a great bunch of guys and support staff as well. Fortunately, we came here as the No 1 ranked team. The first two Tests hardened us up. It was an awesome experience. Faf came into the team after JP got injured. The way he performed was a tribute to the SA spirit. He really set it up.

Hashim Amla is the MoM for his superb knock of 196 in the second innings.

Ricky Ponting: It is always very special. I have been a captain of two World Cup wins. Winning the Ashes was very special. I wish the boys best of luck for the upcoming Ashes. There are a lot of innings that come to mind. The knock of 197 against Pakistan during the 1999-00 season over here, the 100 I got in the 2003 WC final against India was remarkable . I have been proud of how I have played in big games, until the last couple of years. Probably my finest moment in my captaincy was taking a young side to SA a couple of years ago to win a series. That came after we lost to them here. I just took a walk around the park to have a look around at the faces of those young guys. That was a really proud moment for me.

It will be challenging to beat India at home, says Misbah-ul-Haq

Posted: 03 Dec 2012 12:41 AM PST

Despite being defeated by England in the Mumbai Test, India still remained a formidable foe at their home soil, Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq said on Sunday.

“They might have lost a Test to England recently but India are still a formidable team in their home conditions and difficult to beat,” Misbah told reporters during the National T20 Championship now underway in Lahore.

He predicted a tough fight for England in the remaining matches of the Test series in their tour of India.

“England batsmen will have to show plenty of resilience to continue their winning streak against India who will come back stronger,” he said.

The third Test between India and England begins on December 5 in Kolkata.

Misbah said that even Pakistan’s tour to India later this month will not be a easy one.

“Regardless of outcome of their series against England, India has a very good T20 and ODI squad and trying to defeat them in their own conditions will be a challenging task.

“There is no question we will have to be at our best physically and mentally to overcome India,” Misbah said.

The senior batsman said he was eagerly looking forward to playing in the one-day series in India.

“Every player knows that if you do well against India people make you a hero and remember your innings for long time. It is always a pressure series for players,” he said.

Surprisingly, 38-year-old Misbah, whose own future as a Pakistan player has come under scrutiny due to his age, was curt while responding to questions about the retirement of Australian great Ricky Ponting.

Asked if he felt the Australian batsman had set an example for others by announcing his retirement now, Misbah said there was no question of anyone setting an example for anyone.

“I look at this way that retirement is always a personal decision of a player and it has nothing to do with what affect it will have on other players,” he said.
