Eoin Morgan hits last ball six as England beat India by 6 wickets in 2nd T20 to level seriesLed by the heroics of skipper Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler, England pulled off a brilliant six-wicket win over India to finish the two-match Twenty20 series at 1-1.

Scorecard | Ind vs Eng 2nd T20 Highlights

Morgan (49* off 26 balls) and Buttler (15* off 7 balls) put up a crucial 32-run partnership for the fifth wicket to pull off what seemed like an impossible victory at one stage when Yuvraj Singh was bowling in full flow.

Morgan hit 5 boundaries and 2 sixes and Buttler hit a 1 boundary and a single six. Morgan hit his second six off the last ball of the innings bowled by Ashok Dinda to seal the victory and level the series at 1-1.

Earlier, Yuvraj picked up three crucial England wickets to lead the Indian fightback in their second international Twenty20 match in Mumbai on Saturday.

Yuvraj first got the all important breakthrough when he dismissed the dangerous Michael Lumb and then was successful to catch Luke Wright (5) plumb in front of the wicket.

Yuvraj then struck for the third time when he dismissed Alex Hales (42), who in his attempt to hit a slog sweep could only find Ashok Dinda at deep backward square.

Earlier, while chasing a 178-run target, Lumb (50) smashed a brilliant half century to lead the English chase by hitting 6 boundaries and 2 sixes before being stumped by MS Dhoni off the bowling of Yuvraj.

Lumb and Hales got England off to a great start when the duo reached the 50-run partnership in just 31 balls by blasting the Indian bowlers all around the park

Hales was even dropped at one stage by Parvinder Awana.

Earlier, MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina led the Indian fightback and helped the hosts reach a formidable score of 177/8 by putting up a quickfire 60 run partnership.

A rousing start was provided by Virat Kohli, who made a brisk 38 in 20 balls while adding 57 runs with opener Gautam Gambhir (17) for the second wicket.

But India lost their way a bit with the fall of four wickets between the seventh and 15th overs before skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni (38 off 18) and Suresh Raina (35 not out off 24) provided the late spark with a sixth-wicket partnership of 60 runs in just 27 balls.

Among the other top order batsmen, Rohit Sharma made a 19-ball 24 but Ajinkya Rahane and Yuvraj Singh, who was the Man of the Match in the series opener at Pune, failed.

Opting to field, England bowlers started on a disciplined note before falling apart in the face Dhoni and Raina’s late assault. They, though, fielded brilliantly right through.

Tim Bresnan was easily the best bowler with figures of one for 27, identical to spinner James Tredwell, while Stuart Meaker leaked 42 runs for a single wicket.

Kohli hit seven fours and once he fell after making use of the power play overs, England took control with some brilliant out-fielding, before Dhoni and Raina wrested back the advantage.

The arrival of Kohli after the fall of Rahane gave the Indian innings the push they needed, with the Delhi batsman looking in superb nick from the first ball he faced.

Kohli started by striking two fours off Jade Dernbach. When Luke Wright replaced Dernbach to bowl the sixth and last power play over Kohli went berserk, cracking the bowler for four boundaries, that helped India race to 59 for one.

In the previous over Meaker started with four wides and then conceded two boundaries — one each to Kohli and Gambhir.

Dhoni: ‘The dew does really change the course of the game. We did not start well though. We had to do something initially. They played a lot of cuts and pulls initially and it was difficult to come back after that. There was a span of time in the middle when we did not get much runs but they were bowling really well and executed their plans. Overall I think the score we got was a good one. The fast bowlers are still raw. Dinda bowled well. Awana is raw. They are good prospects and we have to back them.’

Morgan: ‘Hell of a game of cricket. Great pitch for a T20 game. It held through for the whole 40 overs. Great to see. The stats of the stadium suggested that chasing was the way to go. We backed ourselves to do it. The fielding was outstanding. Today we were amazing. It’s one of the best crowds I’ve played in front of.’

Eoin Morgan is the Man of the Match for his superb knock under pressure.

Yuvraj: ‘I just tried to vary my pace. I saw where the England batsmen wanted to hit me and tried to confuse them. The ball comes quicker onto the bat with the dew. We bowled well in patches. The way Morgan finished the game was incredible. Personally, I’ve been hitting the ball since the Ranji game. I just have to work more on my fitness.’

Yuvraj Singh is the Man of the Series for his good showing with the ball in both games.

India vs Pakistan: PCB wants India to tour Pakistan in August 2013 #IndvsPak #PakvsInd

Posted: 22 Dec 2012 08:00 AM PST

PCB wants India to tour Pakistan in August 2013Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Zaka Ashraf has sought a meeting with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials during the New Delhi One-Day Internationals (ODI) in the upcoming series to discuss if India can visit Pakistan for a return series in August next year.

“We have conveyed to them we would like to formally discuss a tour by India to Pakistan next August and other matters that can further cement bilateral cricket ties between the two countries,” Ashraf said.

“We have conveyed we would like the discussions to be held when the match is held in New Delhi,” he said.

PCB will not raise any revenue sharing issues with the BCCI for the upcoming One-day series, starting December 25, in India as it wants bilateral ties to be frequent.

“It is not always about money. By the grace of God we are financially sound. But for us the priority at this time is to improve and cement ties with Indian cricket. We want to see long term benefits from such ties even a tour by India to Pakistan,” he said.

“The good thing is that relations between the two boards at this time are very good and there is lot of understanding.

I am pretty hopeful the coming series will serve as a milestone and lead to more frequent bilateral ties.”

Sources in the PCB said that when the officials of the two boards will meet, IPL will also feature in discussions as the PCB is keen to see its players be a part of the six edition of the league.

The players auction for the sixth edition will be held in February.

Ashraf admitted that having the bilateral series with India was a breakthrough in many ways as they were elements who did not want to see normal cricket ties between the two countries.

Toss: England have won the toss and elected to field

Dhoni: ‘Dew does have an impact in games that start at this time. We would have bowled first as well. The wicket is a lot different from Pune, Mumbai is known for bounce, the fast bowlers will enjoy bowling here. We’ve got just one change. Rohit Sharma replaces Ravindra Jadeja.’

Morgan: ‘We’re going to have a bowl. It looks like a good wicket, there will be some dew. We want to chase simply because we back our batsmen. We made a lot of good decisions in that game, but our skill level wasn’t too good. The guys are used to the conditions. We have one change. Root is in for Briggs.’

Teams:
India (Playing XI): Gautam Gambhir, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni(w/c), Ravichandran Ashwin, Parvinder Awana, Piyush Chawla, Ashok Dinda

England (Playing XI): Michael Lumb, Alex Hales, Luke Wright, Eoin Morgan(c), Joseph Root, Samit Patel, Jos Buttler(w), Tim Bresnan, James Tredwell, Stuart Meaker, Jade Dernbach

Pitch Report and Ground Conditions: It is not a big ground, the boundaries are brought up for security reasons. There is a bit of moisture and there are a few damp spots. The ball will come onto the bat nicely. The dew factor will mean that the ball will skid on, but the spinners won’t get too much grip to spin the ball. Sunil Gavaskar reckons that there will be plenty of runs.
