Wasim Akram’s inputs on Indian batsman weakness helped : Junaid Khan #IndvPak

Wasim Akram's inputs on Indian batsman weakness helped - Junaid KhanThe most impressive among the Pakistani pacers who made life difficult for Indian batsmen, Junaid Khan revealed that the legendary Wasim Akram’s inputs about the host batsmen’s “weaknesses” helped him get eight wickets in the just-concluded three-match ODI series.

“I have been a bowler who has relied on bowling outswingers consistently at a good pace. It was Wasim bhai (Akram) who told me to develop the incoming delivery which would be my weapon against the Indian right-handers,” the 23-year-old Junaid told PTI during an interaction before leaving for Lahore on Monday.

“It’s very natural for left-arm fast bowlers to slant it across the right-handers. Once a guy like Virender Sehwag gauges the length of the away-going deliveries, you can be murdered. When I did my homework, I found out that Sehwag has a problem with the ball that comes in.

“I then started working hard on that incoming delivery with our chief bowling coach Mohammed Akram,” said Junaid, who has played 8 Tests and 16 ODIs for Pakistan.

In the three matches, Junaid got Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh out once while he made Virat Kohli his “bunny” getting him out thrice.

“I was never under any kind of pressure to perform. I also got a lot of back-up from the other end as Mohammed Irfan and Umar Gul also bowled superbly. It was certainly a collective effort.”

The man, who hails from the remote Abbottabad district in Pakistan, said that for him “swing is more important than pace.”

“I don’t want to compromise on pace but swing is the most important aspect of my bowling. One might get adjusted to pace but if one has the ability to move the ball consistently at a decent pace, he can create trouble in batsmen’s mind.”

The soft-spoken lad doesn’t have any specific targets in mind and wants to serve Pakistan cricket for as long as possible.

“God willing and with support of my family and teammates, I would like to play for Pakistan as long as possible and try to contribute my hundred percent to team’s cause,” the youngster concluded.

Jacques Kallis rested, South Africa announce ODI squad for New Zealand seriesSouth Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis was rested by the selectors as four uncapped players were included in the 14-man squad for the limited overs series against New Zealand, starting January 19.

According to a report in the NDTV, the senior all-rounder has been rested with view of preserving him for the upcoming 2015 World Cup. Kallis earlier during the Test series expressed his desire to feature in the 50-over world cup to be held in Australia in 2015.

The veteran cricketer earlier also missed the two T20 matches at the start of the New Zealand tour. The four new faces to feature in the Proteas squad for three-match ODI series against New Zealand are wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock, Aaron Phangiso, Farhaan Behardien and Rory Kleinveldt.

The head selector of South Africa Andrew Hudson was quoted by the website as saying, “The Champions Trophy also marks the halfway point to the next ICC World Cup, so this is a critical part of our preparation to win these two major ICC events.

“The four newcomers have all been doing well, either in domestic cricket or by representing the Proteas in other formats.”

Shane Warne banned for one-match, fined US$ 4700 for spat with Marlon Samuels in BBL

Shane Warne banned for one-match, fined US$ 4700 for spat with Marlon Samuels in BBLAustralian star Shane Warne was banned for one match and fined Aus$4,500 (US$4,700) Monday after an ugly, foul-mouthed clash with West Indian Marlon Samuels during a Twenty20 match in Melbourne.

The spin legend, captaining the Melbourne Stars against city rivals the Renegades in the domestic Big Bash tournament on Sunday, was furious that Samuels pulled back David Hussey when the batsman was turning for a second run.

And when Samuels was batting later in the game, Warne confronted the West Indian by swearing at him.

In the next over, Warne, in the field, threw the ball at the Jamaican’s chest and Samuels reacted by tossing his bat down the pitch towards the Australian.

The two players squared up and had to be separated by the umpires.

Samuels was later forced to retire hurt when he top-edged a Lasith Malinga delivery into his eye. With blood gushing from his face, he needed hospital treatment.

Cricket Australia on Monday charged both players with multiple breaches of its code of behaviour and in Warne’s case found him guilty of three of four offences.

The veteran leg-spinner was sanctioned for dissent at an umpire’s decision, using obscene language and deliberate physical contact.

But he was cleared of another charge of throwing the ball at or near the West Indian in an “inappropriate and/or dangerous manner”.

Samuels faces two breaches — deliberate physical contact and unbecoming behaviour, but it is not clear when the charges will be heard as he is nursing a suspected serious eye injury.

Stars’ batsman Cameron White was also charged with dissent and received a suspended Aus$1,000 fine in a game the Renegades won by nine wickets in front of a record Australian domestic Twenty20 crowd of 46,581.
Warne, who cannot play in his team’s Tuesday night clash against Sydney Thunder in Melbourne, claimed he had been harshly treated.

“For me as the Melbourne Stars (captain) I’m very conscious of the image of the game,” he told reporters after the hearing.

“I’m disappointed in some of my actions last night. Also I’m pretty disappointed with the severity of the penalties too. I think that was pretty harsh.”

Stars’ chief executive Clint Cooper said the club was considering its legal options.
