News bulletin: Facebook buys Instagram!

Posted: 12 Jan 2013 04:24 AM PST

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced via Facebook post that they have purchased the extremely popular photo-sharing app called instagram. Instagram was purchased on Monday for a staggering $1 billion, using a combination of cash and stocks. By the end of this quarter, the sale is expected to close, making this photo-sharing experience a part of the social network.

Zuckerberg is excited to be able to work closer with the Instagram team. He has made a point to state, however, that Facebook will continue to grow, using Instagram's strengths to build the app independently, instead of trying to fuse everything with Facebook. Instagram's features will still allow you to use the app to publish your photos on other social networks, such as twitter and Google+, so that friends that do not have a Facebook will not be left out of the photo-sharing opportunity.

What this means for you and your Facebook, is that your newsfeed will now be flooded with vintage-inspired pictures and photographs, which is good if you appreciate the new look and enjoy looking at people's pictures. On the other hand, it would be considered bad if you've done your best to avoid instagram in its entirety.
While you may not be completely onboard yet, the future for mobile photo-sharing is about to get better, as well as your mobile app for Facebook itself. Zuckerberg has stated that he understands people's frustrations with the bugs associated with the mobile Facebook app, and is looking forward to working hand-in-hand with the Instagram team to clean up the mobile app, making it more user-friendly, and less buggy.

As far as Instagram users go, the company has stated that they will keep the features that allow you to share your snapshots separately, so that not all of your pictures end up on your Facebook newsfeed. Facebook and Instagram both understand your privacy, and are looking to keep you instead of steer you away. So instead of jumping ship, stick around and see what this merge has to offer you!
